Shopping companies by State list helpful?

I know we need to sign up for several companies but I am wondering if even just a list, by state, of companies that have a lot of shops in your state would be helpful to start. I was thinking something like:

MN--XYZ Shopping, 123 Shopping, #$% Shopping
WI--*() Shopping, 321 Shopping, GHJ Shopping

Or maybe this exists and I just can't find it? I would say that probably half the companies I have signed up with so far have no shops anywhere in my state. I do get a little nervous having my Social Security number with these companies. I use an EIN number as much as possible.

Everything is way too fluid for a list like that to be valid beyond the date of publication. New clients come on board, old ones take a break and return, clients change providers, etc.

It doesn't exist as far as I know because of several reasons:
1) it would be a PITA to assemble and maintain and none of us are paid to contribute here
2) it would be changing all the time as clients come and go
3) as an experienced shopper I might readily be able to see shops in Nebraska that new shoppers in Nebraska could not see
4) it is hard enough keeping track of the companies that have clients in my own state and I am constantly surprised when I get an email from a company I have not worked with in years that suddenly they have a client in my back yard.

If you are a beginning shopper, start off registering with Bare, Market Force and Steri-cycle because these companies do have good beginning shops in every state in the union. If you find that shopping works for you, then set aside a few evenings to register with every company on the list provided at the bottom of each page here. Make sure you sign up for emails from them because once you have found a few that shop your area by your own exploration you will be able to add to that list as companies get clients near you. It cuts down on the need to check each company's website job board frequently.
Ok, those points make sense. I'm a "new" shopper but I have done quite a bit of shopping already. I am registered with Bare, MF and Steri already and I have done several shops for Bare and MF but non with Steri yet--just found them a few days ago. I'm registered with 45 companies so far, but only about 10 of them have shops in my area, thus the list idea. I've been doing this for several months and do about 50 shops/month give or take but I would like to do about 100 shops/month. I'm running into the cycling of shops where the shops are there but I can't do them because I have been there in the past XX days.
If 25% of the companies you are registered with have jobs in your area you are blessed. In any given year I have between 10 and 20 companies I work with and they are rarely the same companies year after year since clients come and go. There are also companies I will only work with when they heavily bonus because their pay is too low for expectations. There are also companies with shops in my area I just won't work with because they are "idiots" when it comes to editor complaints, having to chase payments and similar bureaucratic niceties.
Rims,
You may want to double or triple the number of MSCs that you are signed up with in order to hit your shops per month goal.

That is the plan. I'm adding a few each day or when I have time.
There you go RIMS.

That's a viable plan. The idea about a state by state list is a wonderful idea, but it just doesn't work in practice. You can also sign up with jobslinger (the free version) if you haven't already. That's the best option for a location based list of shops as it includes shops from all the Sassie companies.

You certainly are. And you are not the first to think there should be an easier way and while there should be, there isn'tconfused smiley

I love the idea RIMS but as the others said the mystery shopping world is constantly changing and it would be a nightmare to keep track of. It's not uncommon for me to get emails from a company that never shops my area that now has a bunch of work I can do.
RIMS what state are you in? Had started a list of companies with work in my area of Mass and Nh. Then Arch Stanton let me know that you can do a zip code search on Jobslinger. It's been helpful. When I see assignments close by for a company that I am not already signed up with I fill out their application and apply.

You can also scroll to the bottom of this page and check out the mystery shopping job board link

And you can sign up with scheduling companies. They recruit for several companies and will send you emails based on the zip codes that you like to work in. Here are a few links for them.

ishoparound=Thanks for the list, I will contact them! I'm in IA but travel a lot for my "real" job so I try to pick up a shop or two out of state when it works too, mostly in the Midwest.
You can start at MSPA, Volition.com or Jobslinger and see a listing of some jobs listed by zip code. start there. MFI is good. GfK offers {edited for ICA violation} shops all over.

Do not read so much, look about you and think of what you see there.

Stericyle is not there because that was one of the names the company used in it's game of change-its -name-multiple-times-and-confuse-people. Not so fun if you haven't kept up.

CoRI (Corporate Research International) was the name for many years. That changed to Stericycle for a short time and now the name is Expert Solutions. Although they haven't abandoned the Stericycle logo as it shares space with Expert Solutions on the shopper's page after logging in. You can find it on the forum list with the first name.

Got it? smiling smiley
