Military Housing Shop Question

Greetings!
I have been doing apartment shops for several months now. I just accepted one at a military [Army] base apartment complex. I am posing as a military wife but am not one, nor have I been in the military.

Does anyone have any tips on a good "story". I do not want to get tripped up on not knowing how to answer about orders, logistics or timing...or any acronyms I do not know. I'm not married, so I think I will feign a whirlwind romance.

Thank you!

PCSing is a good one. It means "moving from one base to another." So you'd say "He just PCSed here."

EAS is when your husband is getting out. Use that to get out of filling out an application. "My husband's EAS is coming up next year, so I'll have to talk with him more about whether he's re enlisting or EASing, so we know how to plan our living arrangements. "

If they ask for your DEERS/RAPIDS ID, and they should right off the bat, just tell them you guys just got married and are still waiting on your marriage license to come in, before you go to DEERS.

Make sure you know your husband's MOS and rank, Forward observer, tow gunner, airframe, admin, logistics...something safe and plentiful. Rank would be E-3 and above, to about E-6. Those are safe.

BBird gave you some good solid advice there. My son is in the military so I know what she was referring to. What forces will you be with? My son is in the Navy and he just PCS'd last month to go back to C-school to learn to be an instructor. He was in Virginia on the Theodore Roosevelt and he is an E-5. Maybe that will help you if you're doing a Navy base.
Hi! Thank you for your response. It is an Army base in the midlands of South Carolina.

Hi
I have specific requirements on the time frame for my rental of base apt. housing. Does anyone one know what time of month Army orders make personnel report?

Thanks!

In the Army getting out is called ETS'ing. They will ask you for your "husband's" social and date of orders. Honestly, if there's something you don't know just say that, especially if you're using a newlywed scenario. They'll be used to the confusion.
Holy moly, you definitely came to the right place, liddlekiddle! Amazing, simply amazing! smiling smiley

Yes, I truly appreciate the help in order to do this shop!

I successfully made the phone call, but have not visited yet. The acronym tutorial helped a lot. I went online and found a rank and an MOS, along with more info about a hypothetical E6 job and unit.

Since I have no ID, I'm a little worried about getting in. I did say that I did not have DEERS nor my marriage license yet. The agent said that I needed his orders and the license within 10 days to put in an app. So I just played along and said that I could do that.

You might get a generic looking picture of a guy and put it on your phone as a newlywed would do. I have a pic of my boyfriend on mine as my wallpaper even (been together 8 years but not married). You could use a pic of your brother or a friend or get one from a internet dating site (from across the country in case they turn out to know him LOL). Just use a picture of an average looking guy about your age so he wouldn't stand out.

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.
