cell phone shop hand holding please!

Someone really, really wants their wireless retail businesses checked out... Several in my area have openings every single day for a week! I am hoping to schedule 3 in one day, since they are in the next town over. The only shop I've done so far was a revealed audit. I'm nervous as heck about applying for this but I need to start somewhere! Any advice on this particular kind of shop? I'm supposed to:

evaluate how the xxxx representative attempts to connect with you. See if the representative tries to fully understand your needs so appropriate recommendations can be made. You will be reporting what the representative says/does, questions he/she asks, and how the information was presented.

I hope there's not a lot of narrative involved because it only pays $8. :-/ I have to start somewhere though, right?

I will know I'm a successful MS'er when I make enough to pay someone else to scrub my toilets.

Without revealing the client, who is the MSC? That would help us to give advice. For that price, I think I know which company it is for.

You'll do fine. It's a fast, easy report. I do these only when the price rises a little. When I do these, I go as early in the morning as I can because I don't want to have to wait. The pay is low, so having to wait makes it not worth it.
Thanks guys. I signed up to do two tomorrow. They open at 10am and I plan to be there at 10. That's the most convenient time for me anyway. I wish they opened earlier! The guidelines are simple for the most part but they want detailed comments at the end..... for $8. hehehe I will do a great job so I can get some work under my belt. I look forward to the days when I will scoff at an $8 shop! :-p

I'm still really nervous. I'm super outgoing but I tend to be super genuine too. I'll need to balance my genuine side with my liar-liar-pants-on-fire side!

I also do these when the price is right or to kill time in between shops.
When I am asked which operating system I prefer "I currently have both, Android for personal and iPhone for work. Do not volunteer any information.
Well the phone is disconnected at one of the places, so that was an easy $3. But it means I have to drive to the next town over for just the one shop :-/

Jenny, it's all about "cutting your teeth" to get ready for bigger and better things. While you are at it, did you sign up for Bestmark or Intellishop? Maybe they have shops in the next town over, who knows?
Jasflalmt - I'm signing up for bestmark right now. Do you want the referral? PM me your shopper ID or email address!

A referral, that's so sweet. The best thing to do with these is walk in, find your associate, and say you're not happy with your current phone service so you're looking into getting "blank" service and let them lead the way.

== Moderator note: Much of this post is fine, but any attempt to speed the interaction is expressly prohibited by most cell phone shop guidelines and recording is NOT a viable option in all states. ==

Behave like you're interested also though by making eye contact, saying "oh, that's a nice feature" and you'll get all the info they have quickly.
MrsJennyK, I would not recommend doing anything to rush an associate. Most guidelines expressly forbid saying or giving the associate the impression you do not have time for a presentation. If you rush them and they miss some required behaviors it will give them cause to challenge the report.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
I've never had to cue the associate to work at a faster pace. Interaction running it's natural course usually lasts only about 15 minutes, no need to exhale or look at my watch.
I do these shops too and usually it states that we're not to go during the first and last hours of business. I'd hate to see you not get paid because you went too early. Also, our state allows recording as long as one party is aware of the recording (if I'm recording, then of course I'm aware of it). I use Smart Voice Recorder app since it can continue recording if I leave the app's screen to switch to something else and so the associates, reps, etc. can't see it. I wish you the best in your new shops.

The Market Force cell shops all say to be sure to arrive at least one hour before closing, but I haven't seen any MF cell shops that say you cannot do the shop within the first hour of business. That's when I usually go. If you get there early, usually there is no waiting.
The shop only said not to go less than an hour before closing. It was easy and was really short. The guy didn't seem very interested in selling me anything at all so I had to stretch to stay in there 15 minutes. Getting that first shop out of the way was such a relief! Since that one I've done 3 phone shops and am signed up for a new account bank shop and a gas station shop. I'm now working on scheduling so that I do at least 2 shops when I go out.

That is great progress for a new shopper. Baby steps first, but then moving a little fatser and more steadily. Good work.
