Thinking about getting into Mystery shopping

Hello to all.
I live in central Alabama, and wondering if this is something i should even try. I haven't contacted any comp. yet, not even sure where to find the comp., that hire for this.
i have been wanting to do something like this for sometime now, just didn't know how to get started. I keep on getting email's from this comp. called Shadow Shopper. I wanted to check out if it was a scam, and here I am. I don't think I will be contacting them back. I really don't see having to pay them to do this kind of work. I just don't have a good feeling about the comp. Looking for any kind of advice here.

On the main page is a section called New Mystery Shoppers and on the bottom of every page you will find the Official List of Mystery Shopping companies. We are independent contractors which means we each technically are running our own small business. The mystery shopping companies are our clients and we decide who we do assignments for, what type of assignments we do and how far we travel. Travel is rarely offered, it is something the IC negotiates for if they find it worthwhile to take on a route of assignments. Read the New Mystery Shoppers section with an emphasis on the first eight or so topics. It will give you a leg up on registering, finding assignments and record keeping.

Shadow shopper used to have a free trial membership, not sure if that is still an option. The are not a mystery shopping company but instead more or less a job board. You don't have to pay to get information on mystery shopping companies.
Remember, you never have to pay them for shops. It is they who have to pay YOU. Also if you ever get checks for huge amounts of money supposedly from shopping companies it's always a scam. Some imposters try to use the names of legitimate companies to scam people.
