Hi - Introductions....... (drum roll)....

Hi everyone,

I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I've been poking around a little and have found so much great information already! I am in the process of signing up with a few companies, and have my first shop next week! What I am running into though, is signing up and going through all the steps and testing - and then there are no shops in my area. I live in Ontario, Canada (north of Toronto, close to Barrie). Does anyone know of any companies that might have more work in my area?

Welcome to the boards, Ace. I'm from Southern Ontario as well. My radius of shops doesn't stretch out to your way, but I often get emails with Barrie listed, so there seems to be a decent ratio of shops to shoppers. Keep signing up and checking the job boards. You've just missed the first wave of January shops, but they'll come back at the end of the month.
I joined the other day because I have been looking for some work in Dallas and it is tough at 64 years of age.
The chance to work and meet new people sounds great, but I am going to need some help in getting started.
What I have read about Mystery Shop Forum is very interesting and now , what is my first step.I look
forward to make some money on top of my Social Security check each month,
Please tell me more.

First step is to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies" link. There's a list of the top companies that you will find work with, so sign up for these. You can sign up for the remaining companies later, that will take some time. Then read the "New Mystery Shoppers" section of this website, particularly the first several articles. Read, read, read!

Welcome to the forum, and to Mystery Shopping!
Hi! I'm new to the forum and have been mystery shopping for a little over a month. I've signed up to two companies so far in the Ottawa area and have had 4 assignments. My first pay came through this week. This type of work is ideal for me being 59 and semi-retired. It's great!
Welcome marcianna! I see lots of available shops in Ottawa so keep signing up for companies and you should be able to find plenty of work.
@Mystery Shopping Ace: You might want to look up www.wecheckservice.com they have a lot of assignments for the Barrie area.
Hi Raymond,

I am 70 years old. I thought I would be too old to get decent shops. I started 7 years ago after I retired. I have shopped many shops and still have a full calendar. I do mostly banks, restaurants, not fast food, car dealers, apartment, and airport shops. I shop only 3 days a week, 3 shops a day. I always ask for a bonus when I shop any distance. I have a good repore with all of my schedulers. Be reliable, honest, and follow-the Guidelines.
Good luck and welcome. You can learn a lot from most of the forum. If you used your real name in this forum, you should come up with an alias.
Hi Raymond, I am from the Ft. Worth Dallas area. I have been doing MS for about a year to supplement my SS. I do most of my shops with Best Mark. Here is a link you can use and I can get credit for referring you. (Hope this is ok with board) apply.bestmark.com/?r=TX14793 Just an FYI they pay twice a month.
Hello Raymond. I live west of Weatherford so I'm somewhat familiar with what's available in your area. I'm 77 next month and I've been shopping for a few years now. If you're still active and get around well, you may want to take a hard look at convenience stores. Banks are always a great possibility for older shoppers as the banks don't require much walking. I recommend you sign up with Maritz. They are a major reputable company, pay twice a month, and work well with beginners. Initially they will assign the work job by job but after a while you'll be able to self assign.

I looked into video shopping once and was told that Dallas is a hot bed of video shopping activity. I didn't go into it because of personal reasons but it may interest you. There's a training session for video shoppers coming up in Dallas soon and I believe there's a thread on it somewhere here. If you're technically inclined and willing to make the equipment investment that might be a good way to go. I don't have personal knowledge of the people doing the training and this is not an endorsement. I heard about it and I'm passing on the news.

You can definitely supplement your social security with this. I work at this part time and my earnings over the past few years have ranged from $8,000 to $15,000 ballpark numbers. For me, the best thing about this work is the flexibility. I can work when I want and take off when I need to.

I just started doing Mystery Shopping in November and love it. I started with just a few shops, now building up. I'm in Southern California, Riverside area. It takes awhile to find shops in my area. I've registered for some sites, only to find out they don't service So. California. Is there any way to find out if a site offers assignments in your area, BEFORE you register for that site?
Also, I'm on GfK Mystery Shopping, they have many tests for different shops. Does anyone know where the guides are for the tests? I see the tests, but there's no sections for learning about the tests, before taking them.
Hi, I'm new to Mystery shopping and have been shopping now for like two weeks. I have gone on 7 shops so far and I love it. It actually gives me something to do, and get free food, clothes and others while I am at it. I shop in the Louisville, KY area and outside. IIt seems like I learn something new everyday and get on here.
@ Johnb-Sign up for Goodwin Hospitality. We have shops in your area! I am looking for someone for casino shops right now if you are interested. Thanks!

Hi team. I'm on Atlanta and brand new to mystery shopping. Starting slow since I do have a full time job right now. Thinking of retiring in a couple of months. I'm like a sponge taking in all your great suggestions and learning with your posts. Thanks for all the great tips. Looking forward to my first assignment soon.
