RMS (Retail Merchandising Services)

This company puts you through all the hassles of becoming a real employee. Then they award you a "flat fee" for a given assignment. The assignments are regular each week so you get to know the store to which you are assigned. The problem is that the hourly rate becomes less than the minimum hourly rate per hour because it is IMPOSSIBLE to complete a given assignment in the time they have allotted. When I finally decided enough is enough and quit, I was told that all I had to do was ask for more money and they would have given it to me. What a way to duck under the law. I am amazed that they haven't been cited by the government.

Has anyone out there heard of this company or also worked for them?

I intend to live forever. So far, so good.
I've worked for RMS for 2 years now and have not encountered this. I work 3 stores for them weekly, most assignments are given a 14 day 'scheduling' period. That way you can group your jobs together and make it worth your time to go into a store. I can only think of one time that the job fee worked out to less than $12 per hour and that was when I had to do a complete reset of a 36ft wall of sunglasses. Over 750 items to be moved, I ended up earning $10.50 per hour for that project, far from "less than minimum hourly rate"

Many merchandising companies will pay a hourly rate but cap the time and not budge on the amount of time you can work the project. I know I had a secondary merch job that just......let's just say that if you had a problem with RMS do not apply for a job with Lawrence Marketing. They pay $10 hourly but expected me to push 10 (sized 12x12x20) boxes of baseball/football/trading cards in 90 minutes. With a POG change weekly that involves peg board. Not feasible.
Wow- I cant say Ive experienced this at all. Mickeym2- I have worked for Lawrence for over 5 and a half years. They are meticulous payers, are great with instructions, reimburse for printing, and are hugely supportive. If you need extra time for a project like the one youre talking about- they pay for it. They have an easy reporting system, too.

judir5- I am going on 8 months with RMS- I havent had even one project that I needed more time for, and other than lots of pictures, they are easy to report right in store. I use them for fill in work. They also pay drive time and mileage- something not all companies do!
