Talk to me about merchandising!

What are some examples of merchandising jobs? I just applied for an apartment door hang for one place, so there is that....what are some others?

What is the pay like? Are the jobs plentiful? (I'm in Ft worth, TX if that helps)

What are some good companies to start with?

What can you tell me that I would not even know what questions to ask?

Also; what other kind of jobs are there out there in the Mystery shop/ Merchandising realm?

I really only do merchandising in the winter. I do it now, but really only when they absolutely need me. I try to build it into my shops and schedule shops near a store I need to reset. You can be paid a flat fee, hourly, hourly plus drive time, flat fee plus drive time.

I mostly do sales resets, promotional sets, and coupon placements. There are plenty of merchandising companies out there, but I only work for one. Have worked for others but dropped them since signing on with this one. It was hard getting "in" but since getting in, they keep me more than busy. I am paid a flat fee plus drive time.

I have been picking up more and more from them because it's steady, reliable pay and I get to keep some of the coupons and samples.

Do you mind sharing the name of the company you work through?
You can PM if you wish.
Sure, sorry!! It's Mondelez. I work for the merchandising/marketing arm of Mondelez. Mondelez is the parent company of Kraft, Nabisco, Cadbury, and a bunch of other brands. I mostly stick coupons or set up coupon display boxes from store to store.

I forgot to add the pay, didn't I?

I have only been with Mondelez for seven months, so I can't speak as to what the pay *may* eventually get up to, or even if it increases, or even if other people start higher or lower, but... I currently make a flat fee of $12.50 per set, per location.

This means that if they send me a set of 18 grocery stores, 20 pharmacies, and 20 gas station/convenience stores, to set up and stock coupon boxes under one of their candy bar display, I am paid $725. They also reimburse .50 per mile driven between locations. It's less than business mileage deduction, but it's something, and it's not for the mileage, it's for the time spent driving, so you can still claim a mileage deduction.

What I really like about them, and why I have started to pick up more and more with them, is that they don't typically send me just one type of set/reset to do. I typically get 2-3 different products/things to do at a time, per location, but I am paid for each of them. So those grocery stores and pharmacies, I might be setting up coupon boxes under their Kraft boxed dinner products, at each of them, in addition to the candy bar job. So I can reasonably expect to make $25-$37.50 per location, and many of them are right next to each other.

The other thing that I like is that the materials are mailed to me. No getting to the store and waiting for a manager to be found and dig them up, or find that they've been misplaced and then I can't do my job.

Some of my larger displays are mailed to the stores, and in the event that the display can't be located, I am paid for going there anyway, and often get asked to go back once it's found, or another has been mailed. I get paid twice for those.

Thanks for the info! I am looking them up now! smiling smiley

Go to Narms or the Retail Recruiter. Many merchandising companies and the jobs they have are listed in these two places. Both sites are free and if your post your resume on the Retail Recruiter, people will contact you about jobs available in your area.
I do movie sets for Focus Servicing, they pay per hour but don't pay for mileage to or between stores so I try to be smart about bunching things together.

Hey BBird701, I find your post interesting because my husband works for this company. He is a sales rep and has many merchandiser who are under him but I have never heard of them hiring outside people to put up displays or even coupon the shelves. Even more intersting my good friend and fellow MS oswaltkp was a manger for them and she never said anything about them doing something like this. So are you actually an employee for the company or is this something totally different? If so why the heck dont I know about it! LOL. What area are you in?
