Gas Shops

Hello,

I have read on this forum about 3 MS companies that have gas shops. Which are the companies that have them (if it's not a violation). I think I know 1 or 2 of them--maybe. Thanks!

I avoid a lot of gas company shops. One wants you to "compare two locations" and you have to "buy a shower at each location, but you don't have to take a shower". No thanks. Another wants to reimburse you $3.00 for gas. At least that will get me a gallon now down here, but still, not worth it. There's one company down here that is mystery shopping for a local chain of gas stations, and pay $12 plus reimburse you for a very small purchase, but the shop takes 15-20 minutes, and the report takes me about 15-20. Now that's one I'll do, and signed up for 5 of them in July.

I am lucky to live in a rural area and I have done several of these "compare two locations" with the shower. The fee was $40 for one, $50 for another. It's really not that bad to do. When they go high like that again I'll gladly do it.
cgruning - I've been watching those "compare" shops with the shower. Ours here are running $30 and $50. Of course the $50 shops are out of town a ways. I've been reluctant to do them because I'm a little ol' gray haired lady in tennis shoes. Could I get away with doing them? I mean women drive as well as go with their husbands all the time.

P.S. Did you take the shower? LOL
LOL!!! No!

However, in order to disguise that I am a shopper, I brought a duffle bag in with me that had a different shirt and a comb, so when I emerged some time later with a new shirt and hair that I had slicked back with water it appeared for all intents and purposes that I had showered. I ate something in between then went into the 2nd one and used the hand dryer to dry my hair before I purchased the second shower.

I think that thes truck stops have so many people coming in and out that they wouldn't pay any attention to who is taking a shower or not. But if you feel funny you could always mention that your hot water heater is out or something I guess. I don't worry about what they think and don't say anything.

The one that I did at $40 wasn't too far from "civilization" and I was able to get some other shops en route. The $50 one was about half an hour from a big college town, so I scheduled a whole bunch of them that day there. The fee certainly exceeded the cost of gas to get there and back.

That particular day I grossed $220 and estimate I used about $40 worth of gas. Can someone tell me if that is considered "good" for a route shopper? I've only been doing this for about 2 months.
Here where I live the one for $50 is about 90 miles roundtrip. The one for $30 here in town is, in my opinion, far better financially. The two truckstops are within a few miles of each other and they are within 10 miles of my home. so no car expenses or much drive time.

I swore I'd do one of each kind of shop so one of these days I'll get around to doing it.

I wouldn't have done the $50 if I didn't already have a whole bunch of shops scheduled at that college town. The time driving alone would have made it a waste when I could do other shops.
That's exactly why I didn't take the shop because I live on the west side of the city and the shop location was east of the city with nothing, and I mean NOTHING, in between.

My whole city only has a population of about 500,000. There are 4 other little cities with 42,000 to 145,000 pop. All of these places are some miles a part and no little cities in between.
Ohmygosh. Your little city.

My husband is a farmer. The closest grocery store to me is 15 miles, the closest Walmart 30, the closest mall 45. I don't know off the top of my head what our population is, but our high school servics the entire county, and my daughter's senior class this year is 88 kids.

There is ONE light in our town which is referred to as "the four way." It's blinking - not even red-yellow-green.

I did one oil change shop and I intend to keep on doing them if I can. smiling smiley
Well, I did call it a little "city" - it's definitely much bigger than a town. I am lucky in some ways because I think there are only about 6 shoppers other than myself who are out looking for work. I base that on those credit shops where there were a number of them and we were only allowed 5. When I counted up the shops that were taken it came out to about 7 of us. I try to stay away from FF shops as I'm trying to lose weight and I don't have a watch/phone that I can do the timing with and I really consider them 2 shops with not enough pay for one. I'm hoping once I get the new phone I'll be able to pick up some of the DQ shops. And if the FF shops get bonused I'll reconsider taking them. About every 2 mos. I've been doing a run to Santa Fe and picking up enough shops there to make it worthwhile but there aren't that many shops there either.
The idea of something that size being "little" is just so foreign to me, compared to where I live. I meant no criticism or anything, sorry if it came across that way.

I don't think there are many shoppers around my way either. There are some shops in that college town about 45 minutes away that get taken, but by and large I have my choice. If I didn't have little kids I would just keep doing them day after day, going from one part of the state to another! I have fun doing them.

I am trying to lose weight too. I'm going to McDs to use their internet to get reports uploaded (easier than trying to get it done with the toddlers when I get home) and I'm getting a grilled chicken snack wrap to eat - 250 calories. My first DQ is Tues. for dinner and on Thurs. I've got a hibachi grill or something for lunch - I better be REALLY good the rest of the week!
cgruning - I'm doing the nutrition shops where they are supposed to give me a drink which I "don't have to drink" so I could lose weight from those shops today! I sure hope they don't offer me some kind of grass or seaweed drink. Yuck! I have 4 to do. I think I'm subconsiously trying to punish myself. LOL
I haven't seen any of those... but keep in mind I'm out in farm world. lol

I am going to have to just live on vegetables with no seasoning when I'm not doing shops if I don't want to gain weight. I did the DQ today, and now i'm at McD's using the internet and of course I had to buy something. I wasn't especially hungry, but you don't have to be hungry to eat those chocolate chip cookies...

Me? I love those Mickey D's hot fudge sundaes! I often take a run to the one closest to my house. Sometimes I even get 2 of them and there is no one here to share with - not even a dog!
I like the sundaes too... but I just had a DQ shop with a sundae 2 hours ago! lol

Are DQ's as good as MD's?

I went to Baskin Robbins a couple weeks ago and had my mouth all ready to wrap around a hot fudge and I was sooo disappointed. They must have changed out their hot fudge because it was like eating warmed up chocolate syrup! And don't get me wrong, I grew up not too far from Hershey and love their syrup - and think it's the only one to use for chocolate milk. But Hershey syrup is NOT hot fudge!
I'm partial to "Friendly's" myself but that is a northeast chain. Now there's a place that can make a sundae - none of this squirts of nuked Hershey syrup on ice cream!
I've done Friendly's when I've visited family in PA. They are good but really McD's is not bad and the nice part is that they are just the right size.
I have not been on this forum site for several days...Thanks for your helpful responses.
cgr.... LOL even where you live sounds big. I teach in a high school that graduates somewhere between 40 and 50 each year. Our 5th graders have only 22 in the grade. You have to drive almost 20 miles to see a traffic light.

The kids get so excited when they get to go to the big city which is 30 miles away and under 50,000.
Community Help time. I'm trying to figure out what company does the big ol orange gas chain. I've been searching for weeks and I can't seem to find out what company does it. I've found the jobber shop form.... but not the actual msc.

tia!
