How do you stay a mystery on this fast food shop?

Has any one done the new Jack in the Box shops? You are required to go in first and then the drive-thru to order just tacos. It is usually the same person taking orders at both places and more than once has the person said something like, "Oh, I just saw you inside." In the instructions they tell you this may happen and to play it off by saying "My friend wanted me to pick something up for them." Granted that is the very last step of the shop, I feel it is utterly revealing.

The reality is if you play it off, you might raise some suspicions but I doubt the employees really care. I often pull my cell phone out as I am walking to my car to "talk" into it. I would then just say hubby or son called and wanted me to pick something up. Every one of the thousands of McD's shops being done across the country each week have the same requirement.

If they say anything, just tell them your wife, girlfriend etc, just called you and wanted tacos, too.

I might have to start using that reason rubypearl.

I do the McDs shops too and feel completely different when I do them. With those you can do the drive-thru first and then go in. I feel like you are recognized less doing that order. Also, it's usually different employees taking the orders. I've never had an employee comment that they had just seen me while doing a McDs shop.
I think the key is to act just like you would if you left the restaurant and your husband asked you to grab a few tacos....

Have a sheepish, somewhat exasperated look on your face when the employee says "Hey! I just saw you in here." That's when you look up and say" I Knowwwww...honey wants some tacos...got keep 'em happy."
I also change my appearance. I have bangs and wear a headband that pulls them back. I wear glasses for one part and take them off for the other. I wear a light jacket and take it off before I go inside. It is easy to change you look if you try. Most employees don't pay that close attention to customers.
Just did my first Jack today. There was recognition the employee's eyes at the drive thru but she didn't say anything.

Yeah, but it does make you feel weird.
That's strange to me. I've done about 10 of the JIB shops since they started, and I don't think I have ever had the same person at the drive thru. Maybe once. But my real reason for this post is that to me it is much more reasonable to do the insider part first. I can always play up deciding later to go to the drive thru after eating inside, but I can't think of one logical reason to come inside and eat after being recognized buying a meal in the drive thru. Anyone have a story to use if you are recognized inside after buying a whole meal in the drive thru?
I already posted this in another thread, but if you think that's bad, try going inside AND drive thru... with the same employee covering both... AND having to ask strange questions at each... at an ice cream place where you're often the only customer!
Drive thru ice cream? I need one of those here. Not necessarily to mystery shop, just to get quick ice cream.

The last Jack I did, the DT didnt give me a receipt. I had to ask and say its for my boss, yeah it was a breakfast shop. I also try to change my looks with caps and shades. It makes me feel like a spy.

Your DQ's don't have drive-thru's?

My shop wasn't DQ, it was a Chicago-area place called Oberweis, but most all of the DQ's around here have drive-thru's as well.

There's only one DQ near me and it's not a drive thru. I could get ice cream of sorts at the McDonalds or Pollo Loco drive thrus, but I was thinking more of Baskin Robbins or Coldstone.
I'm not care whether you stay a mystery when you are on your way out of the shop. They tell you to do the inside first. Clearly they want you to remain a mystery when you do the inside counter portion of the shop and when you are eating in the dining area. At the drive-thru you only purchase 2 tacos and your evaluation of the drive-thru is almost completed by the time you get to the window and the drive-thru cashier sees you, whether they recognize you or not. The report asks if the cashier was the same who served you inside and if s/he recognized you. It sounds like they want to know if their cashiers are paying attention. So far, out of the many I've done, only one has acted as though she recognized me. Except at breakfast, the cashier has not been the same person at both counter and drive-thru. Then you can't shop the location for a month, so even if they spot you as a shopper, you've already completed the majority of the evaluation undetected and they are not going to remember you a month later.
Only one of the St. Louis area Oberweis stores has a drive-thru. Most of the DQs have one.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

I have had an exception lately. Although I generally can't stand fast food, I really do like those cheeseburgers and when the commissions are in the $20's and above, who am I to arguegrinning smiley

I've been doing the shops out in the middle of no where that they have trouble getting filled. They requested, with a bonus, that I shop the same location that I had shopped less than a month ago. The stores are not that high volume is why I keep getting recognized. I completed this shop last night and was again recognized, although the employee didn't say anything and he was not the one that took my order inside. This was the first time I was not given my receipt at the DT. I'm waiting to see what kind of feed back I get. I believe the employee intentionally did not give it to me because he abruptly closed the window and walked away from it after handing me my food.
I had one shop where I was not provided a receipt at the drive-thru although I asked for one. The employee said "yes, it's in the bag." It wasn't. I explained in my report and I got no questions at all and the report was approved.
LOL love it! smiling smiley

Yep. I pretended to talk on my phone and then just say "What? That's it? Just two tacos? Ok." and then order two tacos. My crazy imaginary friend just made me order two tacos. Sorry.
