Shadow Shopper

I've been MSing for a while, even though I am new to this board, and somehow never heard of the site shadowshopper.com -- Even though I set my contact preferences to 'do not contact' they're constantly emailing me about becoming a premium member for $50 a year. I have troubles paying for job listings, as I find plenty fine without doing that, but I have paid for jobslingerplus.com before (because their tools are so convenient).

I've been offered a "free" two week membership (typical cc info required, cancel before trial expires crap). Is this site worth it at all, or should I just remove myself from their db?

There are alot of warnings on various mystery shopping sites to not ever pay a membership fee, and I think it would apply to this situation as well. Practically speaking, there are so many companies out there and plenty of assignments to choose from, free of charge. that there would be no need to pay a company any fee.
When I began mystery shopping, I signed up with Shadow Shopper and paid for it. I have no regrets. The emails I received from them allowed me to build a list of companies in which I would be interested. It's been a while since I was a member but I seem to recall that they offered some training and other information as well.

I think for someone just getting into mystery shopping, Shadow Shopper is a reasonably good way to get started. One need not sign up for the premium level. Even at basic, you can receive notification of available shops.

As I said, for me, no regrets about having been a paid member for a while.
I also did shadow shopper when I first started shopping and it was invaluable for a beginner shopper. However, if you have experience under your belt and know what you are doing, I would not do it. Truth be told, if I would have found this forum first, there would have been no need for shadow shopper. The mega-list of MSC's on this forum is way more advantageous than what you get through shadow shopper and it is free.
I get email notifications from Shadow Shopper that involve jobs that require me to sign up and pay a fee. I don't think these companies get that we're trying to MAKE money, not give it away to them. Never pay for a job. It's counter-productive!

A long time ago I signed up for whatever the bare minimum was at the time. As they emailed me information, I saw that the information matched up with the emails I was receiving from the companies themselves. Membership with them seemed pointless.

I do currently have a jobslingerplus membership because it does help me organize a bit, and between it and msjobboard , all but about three of my companies are gathered in two places instead of 70 separate ones.

After 20+ years of shopping, I am beginning to get the hang of this!
Please, do not pay to become a mystery shopper. No one should every have to pay any money to become a mystery shopper. I have been doing it now for about 14 years and I have never and would never pay any company to work as a mystery shopper. I got the majority of my contacts from a site called VOLITION (Volition.com) (http://www.volition.com/mystery/MSDaily.html). When you get to their page, take some time to go over it as they have different things you can do, like mystery shopping, demonstrations, clipping coupons, etc. VOLITION has a listing of quite a few of mystery shopping companies that you can sign up with. This is how I got most of my clients (if we can call them that). You can also check out MYSTERY SHOPPER PROVIDERS ASSOCIATION (MSPA). There are many more a person can check out just by googling the words, mystery shopper, secret shopper, etc. Just stay away from the companies and ads that ask for money. The only thing I have ever paid for in relation to mystery shopping are my SILVER & GOLD CERTIFICATION and I have never regretted paying for that training. I am proud to hold the silver and gold certification.
I feel the same way. TOO many times I have gotten Shadow Shopper emails for jobs that were no longer available. Besides, don't you then have to log in to shadow shopper and apply for those jobs? If you are already signed up for that company, it is a MUCH easier process to log into the company site and self assign!

Silver certified, I shop in Cities in NM and TX that no one has ever heard of.
I found this site really useful when I was still a newer shopper as I could determine which companies had a lot of shops in my area and shops I wanted. That made it easier to decide where I would register.
