Maritz - New Bank Shops

Please don't mention the client, since I have mentioned the MSC. I see Maritz has a bunch of $20 bank shops with a different bank (not the normal one I see). Does anyone know anything about these shops? And what they involve?

A checking account opening shop for $20? Pass.

I did two account opening shops last year, one for $50 and one for $115. A hard pull on my credit is worth more than $20.
Well my question got answered. I just received an e-mail from Maritz explaining the details of these shops.
and? inquiring minds want to know, please!

Ooops...I was going to put part of the e-mail here, but the bottom of the e-mail instructs me not to share this information.

They're checking account opening shops for a bank that is not Maritz's typical bank client. Pay is $20.
This is strange....the ad to the side of the page for me is for the bank? How in the world does that happen? The bank name was never mentioned.

I have been passing on these shops since they appeared on the board. Yesterday they called me via an 800 number that I didn't recognize and I didn't answer, so they left a VM and I did not call back. Could they be losing the other bank and this is will be the new hot client, just wondering.
I don't think so. I think they are adding this bank as one of their clients. I answered a call from them. I am not eligible for this shop because I already have a checking account there. She noted that and said she would contact me in a few weeks when they had other shops I could do at this bank.
I may not be using the right terminology but the Internet or cookies or something is "spying" on what we view and read online and then you start getting ads for that company. Every time I do research on a new MSC client or view a company's web site for location and hours information, I start getting ads on the side of my screen (not pop-ups which are blocked.)

Techman01 could probably answer this question better. And I am not sure how to stop this from happening.

Are these banking shops for a regional bank? I am not seeing new banking shops on the west coast.

I was going to explain it a little, but then I saw LiasSTL's post and thought that was an excellent explanation.

But really, you can clear your cookies and change settings in your browser to not keep cookies among other things. Also, ads are displayed based on the content of the page you are viewing. Since we're talking about banks, it wouldn't be surprising to see bank ads.
It is a regional bank.

They are _desperate_ to get them done. A shopper can only do one, of course. They state to bring at least $25 in cash with you in order to open the account. Apparently, and this is a new shop, so who knows, you close the shop and they say that it will take 90 days (or within 90) for the account to actually close up. There's no hard hit to credit (it's a soft hit using a service called Chexsystem), but even so. $20 for one shop and it requires opening a checking account with $25 for 90 days? Blerg!
Advertisers track the websites you visit, the links you click on, the type of ads you click on etc etc. There really is no way around it anymore. Google is one of the biggest ad providers and they havent become really good at figuring out which ads will pertain to you.

You may have not mentioned the client here, but you visited their site or their name was mentioned in an email or another website, so you will now see the ads.

You can turn on do not track in your browser, but it is strictly voluntary and few if any websites actually honor the request.

Doesn't sound like a winner. It's not around these parts at any rate.
I don't see any in central Florida.

Just for future references, the bank in question has branches in IN, KY, OH, MI, PA and WV.

And, technically ChexSystems isn't even a credit bureau. They are considered a consumer reporting agency, but they only monitor activity on deposit accounts (checking/savings/money market). Their reporting system is very different from the large credit bureaus as well. There is no "score" calculated. And, unlike credit reports, your Chex report only contains negative information, if reported.

And actually, now that I know that there's no hard pull involved, I may see if I can twist a little bit more on the price. No big deal to maintain a checking account for 3 months.
I am kinda mad about this shop. I signed up when they first introduced them. Was told that I could open the account with $25, then I was to close the account 48 hours later. Now that I am signed up, they have changed the rules on it and I have to withdraw the money while the account sits idle for 90 days til it is closed to avoid fees. I don't really want another bank account sitting there for 90 days. But if I back out I will get a mark on my record, and I have a 100% with them. Irks me!

Hi Bay! _***!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!***_

I hear the answer begins with the number 42.

Best wishes on your hunt!

Jen
SecretAgentMom: That sucks! That's exactly what I was thinking when they told me about it. It's really hilarious the number of banks I have tiny checking accounts with. =P I hear ya!

zlinedavid: Good info! Thanks for adding to it. Hope you get enough to make it worth your while! I know they are really desperate for shoppers on these. Pinnacle (there are a few others) also have bank shops that they're desperate to fill. If I'm not mistaken theirs are in IL, IN, WI ... that's all I know for sure, but I'm positive there are more states. They pay $50 to open a $25 account that closes in... boy, I'm not sure I remember exactly, so I would just say to check them out. Anyway, I really really like the folks at Pinnacle, really respect them (they have the best editors EVER). If you don't already have a checking account and you're in their neighborhood, maybe you could earn an extra $25 for your trouble. =D

Sending the best,

Jen
I just did one of them and discovered at the time I opened the account that if I don't do anything with it after the first 30 days you're hit with a $9.95 monthly maintenance fee. Letting it sit for 3 months costs you about $30 in fees unless you use their debit card or write checks 5 times per month. Horse hockey to that!!!

OH NO, CETTIE! Holy! That's the Pinnacle shop?!! Man, I'd be emailing Michela tout suite! Unless you were told that during the platform or when you opened the account, that's something they need to let you know! =((

Cettie is this the new Maritz shop? I hope not. Mine is up this week and I think I want to cancel if it is this. What did you do?

I know with Pinnacle you had to email them and tell them each time you got a service fee. It became a royal pain in the behind until the six months were up when I wasn't hit with a cancellation fee. Pinnacle changed that since I started for them in November last year, but if this new one for Maritz is going to be like that they can keep the shop.
