Help!!
Okay so I have been shopping for about 3 months trying to build a name for myself and I just screwed up!
I had a pretty good paying shop with a large grocery/department store. The shop required you to check every dept. and interact with an employee if one is available. There were 17+ departments!! I was supposed to get the time for every department and recheck depts. if no one was there. I was in that store for almost an hour going back and forth walking around. It seemed as though none of the departments were staffed. On several I forgot to write the time and on several employees I could not see there nametag w/o being obvious but I did get good descriptions. Anyway when I got home to enter the shop they wanted 2 times for each department. I was missing several times and since I probaly walked around that store back and forth 4 times or more I couldn't remember so I had to estimate the times. Well I had some duplicate times and couldn't keep things straight so of course they sent me an email asking for clarification. I was honest and told them I had forgotten to do write some of the times, and I didn't have all the information they wanted. I asked if I could have the chance to do the shop again. Any suggestions on what I can do?? Has anyone ever flaked on a shop and did they give you a second chance?

Yes, and Yes. Yes, and No. Depends on the scheduler, your track record, what the shops pays, how desperate they are, the deadlines they have.

Thanks so much, I needed to know I am not the only one who's flaked before!! I'm feeling like a loser! I'll let you know what the scheduler says!

Unless their was a deadline crunch they usually give you a second try. I hope the pay was worth it for what you were trying to do. 17 depts????? A bit much unless they were paying you big bucks and I mean paying you like over $50?????

I think DeeShops is right on the money. And yes, I did my first flake on a job last year when they insisted I go back for more photos, one of which I knew I could not take with any modicum of safety/sanity. If it had been closer, if it had paid better and if I had wanted to stay in the good graces of the company I probably would have attempted to redo/finish. But since none of those factors were in play, I told them why I was cancelling the job. There were no ramifications to me as a shopper that I am aware of, but I had done probably 30-40 previous jobs for them. Feeling like a loser when you screw up is a good sign. Getting over it and back into the game more determined never to feel that way again is an even better sign.

It pays $27 but not all the depts are open/ or staffed, so you just have to record the time you checked and rechecked! It is a bit much but the rest of the form wasn't too bad. Thanks again for the advice.

Tricia--get a DVR and record each time and each conversation. I put mine into my hat or bra and speak various notes in into it myself. Most stores are too noisy for anyone to hear you.

This grocery shop is horrendous..........I really don't think the pay is worth it.
I do grocery shops for Trendsource and they are a lot better. Very easy audit form and only interact w/3 or 4 employees besides the cashiers. Absolutely no timings........mostly yes/no questions w/short narrative.
The shop you did, I considered doing until others warned me about it.

Triciacus I hear ya on money being tight and your reasoning for taking those jobs and my reasoning is take the less paying jobs to get your foot in with that company the only draw back is they will expect all this work out of you in the future, it really does sound like alot of work for 27.00.

It actually wasn't that bad because 80% of the departments are not staffed so I just have to walk by write the time down then walk by later and write the time again! It took about an hour but I got my grocery shopping done too. I felt it was worth it.
