Huh. Was anyone able to explain the bizarre edit?

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

I get mad when I see my reports have changed after I submitted them. I don't mind the grammar/spelling changes, but the things that involve the integrity of the shop irritate me. Why do they hire us if they are going to change it anyway. I work with one MSC that does gas stations, they change reports frequently. I usually can see the changes when they send me back the report for a photo hold. It makes you wonder how reliable the MS business is when we are hired to report what happens then an editor changes it to reflect something else.

Added: I wonder if editors get the same false information warnings we get. Has an MSC ever gone after an MSer for falsifying info when an editor changed it to say something else? We will probably never know, we as MSers get deactivated without explanation or warning.

I've never seen one post-edit, but I'd love to. I actually think it would be a very helpful tool for shoppers, especially if it's an ongoing project.
I don't think I have ever seen any of my shops following edits. I often wish I could have that opportunity, especially when I receive a 9/10 because of minor errors in sentence structure, or a comment that says something to the effect of, "This was a solid report that required minor editing." Ratings are all but useless to me if I am not given any specific information on how I can improve as a writer and as a shopper.

I agree that altering the content of a mystery shop report seems counterproductive.
That was just a bizarre change in the OP post. Sometimes I think I'm happy that I seldom see the things an editor might change.

On the other hand, I get frustrated by the follow-ups that say minor spelling or grammar changes were made in my report. Unless they tell me specifically what I've done wrong, I'm likely to keep doing it. If they want better reports, provide better feedback.

I worked as a newspaper reporter and editor long enough to know that unless you point out exactly what was changed and why, the writer/reporter will make the same mistakes again.
I agree with your point about structure and minor grammatical errors. I've really only had that issue with one company, and quite honestly, have come to expect that feedback from them. I often find their assessment (and editor) questionable, and have accepted that my rating will always vacillate between 9 and 10.

Wow....
I requested a copy from a editor after I was emailed questions that the answers were in the report. I copied and pasted then returned. She wrote me back thanking me for the answers there were 4 of the that honestly I just C &P to the email. She stated she was not allowed to return a copy of the edited paper. So makes me wonder what is being sent out under my name. How do I know what they did to the report. That's something I don't like.
When I was in retail, there never was a "shopper's name" on the reports. I can't say it never happens, but we have to assume our anonimity is being protected. It may not help with what's being filed at the MSC under our names.

I once got a question from someone in QC after it had gone through the editor. They wanted me to clarify something I said in the report. I looked at the question and wrote back that I had never written that in my report. Didn't hear from them again.
I received a report back for more information once and the report returned to me was not at all what I had submitted. The requested information was in my original report, but NOT in the one returned to me. I wrote to the scheduler and asked how many people had edited it. She expressed surprise and did not understand. It was as if one editor removed information and another asked for it again. Sheesh, and it was a bear of a report too. I never got an answer and rarely work for that company now. It was for a company many people love, love, love, but I personally do not like their reports and/or editors, especially after that incident.

One MSC that does allow you access to your reports after they have been edited is The Brandt Group. I have never seen them edit any of my reports in such a way as to change my original intent or alter relevant information. Any feedback I've been given by my assigned editor there is always useful and done with tact and kindness.

The fact they don't alter them beyond recognition may be why they allow shoppers to see them.
