Are we? In 10 years the most they taught me was the 10 foot rule, which supposedly scares people who wants to shoplift. If I have a suspect about someone I have to go look for a manger and tell him my suspect. Most of the times the manager comes back to the location, which is empty because the guy left. On the other end, if I see someone shoplift I can...do nothing. I can go call a manger and hoping I find him/her quickly, the same situation above mentioned applies. The situation changes if the shoplifter has $500 of product in the cart. They are easy to track down and the manager can follow them.
But again...were we trained? The only train I was ever given was go call a manger if you have a suspect. But again, I have less than a minute to open a case, fix the shelf, stock the item and dispose of the box...do you think I have time to look for suspects? To me even helping a customer is a big waste of time since I am given such a short time to stock.
