Info on different subjects

Hi Everyone!
I am new to the world of mystery shopping and wanted to ask a couple more questions.
1. Is it ok for me to ask if anyone knows the names of companies that do phone shops? Web shops?
2. Has anyone used one of those recording pens that I see Wal-Mart has advertised? Do they work?
3. Which companies pay by check rather than PayPal?

TIA
Tam

Hi Tam.

1. You can ask that. We can not name the clients of a particular mystery shopping company, but we can mention the type of shops they have.
By phone shop, do you mean a shop you do on the phone?
I have done phone call shops for spotcheckservices, servicemetrics, lanla, consumer connection, shoppers confidential, research services group, bare international. I come across them infrequently though.
I've done shops that were checking out a website for bestmark, and for shoppers confidential.

2. I haven't tried them. I do use the recorder on my cell phone.

3. Market Force sends me a cheque. And I think Mintel.
I don't know what recorder pen Wal Mart is offering, but I have a MemoQ that I LOVE. Excellent voice clarity, good battery life and storage capacity, plugs into my computer in a USB port, and comes apart so I can stick a 3 inch piece into my bra (or a shirt pocket) and nobody can tell I'm using it. It cost a little over $100 if I remember right.

Be sure you are in a one-party consent state before using a recorder. A few states require consent of the person you are recording.

I pray it does not occur that the last thing I did before I died was vacuum the house or eat broccoli.
A good digital voice recorder by Panasonic or similar quality will generally out perform the pens types and cost much less. You can do a search for "all dates" and DVR" here and will find many recommendations for DVRs..

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I use both. My regular DVR is a backup to my pen recorder. I've had times when the drive filled up on a route and it stopped recording without me realizing it, and my DVR saved the day. And I've had times when the regular DVR turned off or the battery died and the pen saved the day.

Cell phone recorders are good for restaurant shops. You can just lay the phone face down on the table and nobody knows what it's doing.

Wow! I must thank all of you for all of this information. I have learned quite a bit since I first sat down here.

Thanks
Tam
Phone shops: Bestmark, MCP, Confero, BARE, Pinnacle (occasionally, if you set up an account with certain banks that they shop)
Web shops: Bestmark, MCP

Bestmark pays by check and does it pretty quickly too. Can you accept direct deposits? DD is usually my preference from the MSCs that pay that way, including Trendsource, Market Force and BARE.
