Feedback from Editors

So I just read an editor's shop comments for 5 shops that I submitted for one MSC, and I am as pleased as can be. For the first 4 emails, this is the feedback I received:

"Shop Grade: 10

Comments: Incredible job, thank you! Extremely well written, a pleasure to read and required no editing!"

Then I open email #5:

"Shop Grade: 9

Comments: Great job, thank you! Nicely written!"

Huh.

While it was a little less enthusiastic, it was still A-OK with me to receive this. I'd be lying though if I said that it didn't make me wonder, hmmmm. Just what is it that I did differently with that last report that caused me to miss that elusive "perfect 10" Shop Grade?

Heck, who am I kidding? Reading feedback comments like these just absolutely make my day smiling smiley

Don't get hung up on the grades. Unless you get a "one" I would not fret. Different editors different grades.
For sure different editors grade reports differently. I know exactly what you mean (from experience here)

As long as I did my best and they are going to pay me and keep me employed. smiling smiley
Funny you mention this subject.....I too was wondering and came to the realization there have been new Editors hired
for a company that always had a report of mine "on hold" needing to question something I know was correct in the report.
Turns out the new Editor loves my reports (and rightly so), and I now get 10's and a nice note thanking me, etc.
This proves it is not always our fault when getting a 9 that probably should have been a 10. New Editors can be a good thing.

At one MSC, probably the same one, there are editors that always give 9's for perfect reports. I'm not sure they ever give a 10, or if they do, what that would require. Should I send flowers?

As long as my grade is good enough that I can continue shopping I really don't care.
I'm not obsessed, but I care, if I do a 10 shop, why not want a 10, the work was put in.

I finally got a 10 from one of my consistent 9 editors after I made comments like " The milky white smear on the window was a half inch long, by 10 inches wide. It was located 3/4 out of the way up the north side entrance door, with the weathered white cracking L and H in the name.

OMG I think I know the MSC you're talking about. I've gotten 9s on all of my oil change shops from one company. The comments give me no constructive criticsm. It's soooooooooooo annoying! I want a 10. It's the only company where my average is not a 10. I just want to know what it takes to get a 10!

My average with them is a 10. I haven't done too many shops. I have no idea why I get 10s.
Most shoppers on here will say that you shouldn't care about a 9 vs a 10.

I have to say that it always irritates me. Without fail. If they're giving me a 9, presumably there is *something* I could have done to get a 10. I want to know what that *something* is! I'm a perfectionist and it bothers me. That said, I try to minimize my irritation, suck it up and move on.
For me it is all about the company. There are some for whom a 10 is as elusive as a unicorn so a 9 wouldn't bother me a bit. OTOH, if my scores have always been high and one drops off there would be more consternation.

I hear you and in general share your thoughts. I do get annoyed when I get a 9 and will take steps to improve and get 10s in the future.

However, I have learned that not all MSPs think there is a significant difference between a 9 and 10 and give shoppers constructive feedback to improve their reports. For those MSPs, I go with the flow and don't cry over getting a 9. Therefore, my efforts to improve are reserved for those MSPs that do care and will help me do so.

Happily shopping Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut
I think I do the same thing on shops when asked to grade - they can't ALL be 10s I figure. Some grocery stores and/or customer service experiences are terrific, nothing better and some are very good.

Evaluating and mailing packages since 1994
I got my first unexplained 9 today from a certain MSC. I emailed my scheduler about it, who is always quick to reply and very nice. She said she would feel equally frustrated, but that they just do that sometimes and there's nothing to be done. She told me that I am certainly not the first to contact her about the same thing, and that she can't even contact the editor. I can't even contact them to find out what I did "wrong." That's kind of silly, but yeah - I'm still getting paid so.....
I did actually have an editor at one MSC reply to me. I had not written a very good report and I knew it. When I got an email from her saying I should have proof-read the report, I wrote back that she was right and I was sorry about that and she actually replied to my email!

As long as they pay me, I don't quibble. The 6 stung a lot, but I obviously got a real stickler that day. I usually get 9 or 10. And I still got paid in full for the 6.

It's those that I screw up and don't get paid for that kill me. I've had four of those. I want to slit my wrists for the dumb mistakes that resulted in no pay. The only one to blame is myself. And I am the best self-whipper in the world!

My point exactly with Customer Impact and their editing manager Amanda recently! No problem with any of my shops. Got paid for all of them. But if other editors can give me a full round 10 score, why does Amanda have to ALWAYS give a 9 or 8?
I just did a restaurant (above) and Amanda was my scheduler. I got a 10 and the nicest email with praise for a job well done and a great report. I have gotten 9's, but this 10 made me smile. I knew I did an exceptional job, but still expected
a 9, so don't give up...it happens. Thanks Amanda. I always get a 9 from the oil change place and never a 10 from
Service Check, I've resigned to that.

Hmm... is the oil change editor different from the other ones?

I was just updating my payments and notice this feedback from my latest oil change:

"Thank you for your report. Your comments were well-written and detailed, providing us a clear understanding of what happened during your visit. Please keep up the nice work!"

High praise indeed!

Shop rating: 9/10

I guess I forgot to send flowers. tongue sticking out smiley

Speaking of the "oil change", they also do two movie theaters (in my town) 2 miles from me, so, I again apply for July,
and do not get either one....why I ask, I love the movies. I have never gotten to do one, flowers, I don't think so.......

Maybe this shouldn't bother me as much as it does...but with one certain MSC, my shop grades are something like this: 10, 10, 9, 8, 10, 9 - IMO the 8 was undeserved...but what really gets my goat is this: Average: 8 Last Shop Grade: 9. In what world do 10 + 10 + 9 + 8 + 10 + 9 equal an average of 8 !!??

I know, it's so not worth arguing with the MSC....the same MSC who I had to argue with, when they rejected my report mistakenly, for an error they later blamed on a scheduler who is now no longer with their company....the report I argued to be paid for, and have the poor grade removed from...they conceded to remove the poor grade and give me a 10 rating for that shop, but never paid me for my report, which required a purchase. That really stung.

It bothered me to the point that I no longer do shops for them, but once in awhile I do log in to see what is on their job board....every time I do, seeing my "Average of 8", just bugs the #$%%^%$ out of me!!!
I would imagine that editors like shopper are are more inspired to write than at other times.
Lets say you did 10 shops a day and at the end of each shop you had to write a little comment about the shop, even though you did 10 of the same kind of shops you have to use different words or dicriptions in your comments or they would all sound the same . So you change it up little. The Editors probably do the same.
You know
Great job! ,Very nice work. ,Keep up the good work !!. This is a model report !!!
Just different kinds of smoke (just kidding)

Happy Shopping to all.
There is a job out there where you walk out of the store with your item under the cart if the cashier or bagger doesn't see it.
I walk out of the store, then return and place it back on the shelve. I get an email saying I shouldn't have gone back, so,
is stealing the new norm? I just fringing give up....

Live consciously....
I was looking at my scores on one MSC's site today: 5 shops showing (although I have done many more than that): all scored a ten, but my average score showed as 9! Someone sure doesn't know math. LOL
Yes, Irene..you walk out of the store and keep it. I've done a couple of those and walked directly to my car and put the item in. Since you tell what the item is on the report, the "loss" of the item is written off. I'm sure the instructions did not say to return to the store to reshelve the item. If they didn't direct you to do so, then you keep the item.
You could not pay me enough to do a shop where I steal something.
