That's the entire point. Which is why adding that she's white makes it appear racist. By adding that she was more uncomfortable because she's white, she's insinuating that you should assume that loiterers are non-white.

@Trashman- Love it! ^ Thank you for lightening up the mood of this thread smiling smiley

As for the rest, I had no idea the original post would cause such an uproar and I apologize.

I was doing a mini-route that day and had posted from my smartphone because I was hoping for quick advice/answers on what to do. (Lots of times I get answers quicker and easier from this forum than by trying to get a hold of an MSC smiling smiley.)
I wasn't really thinking about making sure my post was "PC" enough at the time and maybe I gave too many details or came across as an insensitive person. ( I assure you I am not. )

In the end, it all worked out fine and thanks again to all who offered helpful advice.

Why would a white person be uncomfortable because most of the people around them are not white? Does that imply the person is only comfortable around people that look like them? I'm asking because I really want to know. I see being uncomfortable as different than being in danger or an unsafe situation.
I accepted a gas station by a different company, and have felt unsafe. Several day laborers were waiting for an offer to work, and I just didn't feel safe. I've been to that gas station before and was stared at, cat-called, and other stuff. Several years ago (when I was 17-18), the associate that worked there told me I had nice legs. In front of my Dad. Creepy!!
Anyway, I pumped a few gallons, but did not go in the store. I emailed my scheduler and she said she understood. Still went through. I think that companies need to know if there are people scaring off customers, and if the associate are allowing it to happen. Or are creepy themselves! ha

As a white/asian female that has kids with a white/black man, I don't discriminate. I'm suspicious of all y'all crazies! winking smiley
Right, but you wouldn't have felt the need to mention that you're white/Asian when you stated you were uncomfortable would you? Would that have even been a factor? Or would you just have been uncomfortable because of the personalities of the day laborers?

Maybe we need to give this one a rest. I feel uncomfortable in high crime neighborhoods known for gang violence regardless of what color the offenders happen to be. There are places in rural Missouri that scare the hell out me as bad as any inner city neighborhood. It doesn't much matter if it is a gang banger, crack head, meth addict or freakin' redneck.

And you know what Mary, as far as I'm concerned all the white people should go back to where they came from. If my people hadn't helped them tie up their boats maybe they would have drifted around and found some place else to screw upwinking smiley

I see trees of green,
red roses too,
I see them bloom,
for me and you.
And I think to myself,
what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue,
And clouds of white.
The bright blessed day,
The dark sacred night.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow,
So pretty in the sky.
Are also on the faces,
Of people going by,
I see friends shaking hands,
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying,
"I love you"

I hear babies cry,
I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more,
Than I'll ever know.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Yes, I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Oh yeah.

Let's all take a deep breath. OK?
Why is it that people always have to pull out the race card. As far as I am concerned, it is too thin to hold you up. I for one, would not have stopped had I encountered the same situation that the author of the post encountered. All of you know as well as myself that there are neighborhoods where there is a greater possibility of being robbed. Even the local police will tell you that. It doesn't have to be spelled out. Birds of a feather.....
Exactly, Cruise. We all know there are places we don't want to go because it's not safe. There's a particular station in my area that I used to audit. It's deep in the Barrio but I never had any problems in that area. I stopped going into that area after a Budweiser driver was shot and killed while he was making a delivery. He wasn't robbed, just shot and killed for the hell of it. I didn't stop going because it's deep Mexican; I stopped going because I didn't want to stand out there in my little orange "shoot me" vest and see what happened.

I also want to say that I have never been treated more courteously and with more respect than in the Barrio. That's a place where an older woman never has to open the door to the building herself.

I think some people are not able to understand the point that myself and others are trying to make. I also think Lisa was correct in saying it's time to drop this one.

@ shopperbob it is my opinion that your are totally CLUELESS!! and for the record no one was playing the race card.
Audria,

Nowhere did I state that anyone was playing the "race" card. Is it that your personal involvement with this matter has affected your business ability to see clearly?
Shopperbob. I see this matter very clearly. It is you and cruiseguy, who missed the boat. I apologize it was cruiseguy, who made that obnoxious comment about the race card being played. For the record, that will be my ONLY apology to you.

All I stated was it was not neccessary to include race when describing the issue, which it was not. She could have clearly conveyed the same message without including race.

By saying, she was white, she was stating that she did not feel safe because the other people were not white. No one was being overly sensitive at that time, as you call it. I just stated it was unneccassary.

Shopperbob you obviously do NOT get it, nor do I feel the need to argue with you about it. BTW my business abilities are fine. Do not slight them because I do not share your one sided view, nor is my "personal involvment" as you call it, any concern of yours. Please do not speak on my personal life, unless you have concrete facts about me.
Regardless of who may or may not have missed the boat, every forum member is entitled to have an opinion. Every forum member is entitled to express that opinion.

As Lisa suggested numerous posts ago, it's time to end this. Opinions are opinions. They have been stated. I doubt any opinions will change. Difference of opinion. End of story.
I was asked by a MSC once why I did not spend at least ten minutes at the gas station on a mystery shop. Well my answer was 1) there was no store 2) there was no restroom (both of which I verified by driving around the station in my vehicle with my windows rolled up) because 3) there were three very mentally ill (as in psychotic and out of control) panhandlers who would not leave me alone while I pumped my $5 worth of gas. BTW, this happened in Palm Springs--hardly the hood. I've done audits in the "hood" and felt safer than I did at that station at that moment in time. It is the situation at the time more than anything else.
I agree with--audrialyn30---but would add----Why didn't you use the "Stand your Ground" mentality and do the job.
Audria stated:

By saying, she was white, she was stating that she did not feel safe because the other people were not white. No one was being overly sensitive at that time, as you call it. I just stated it was unnecessary.

BOB'S reply:

If that's how she felt and wished to so declare, that's her business. Was it NECESSARY for the poster to type? Of course not, but it was her prerogative.

Audria states:

Shopperbob you obviously do NOT get it.

BOB'S reply:

Were this my forum, there is much I would type in response, but it doesn't belong to me. Based upon that fact, I'll heed Austin and desist. Although it probably doesn't need to be mentioned, I'm neither sensitive nor politically correct; the second of which I think is hogwash.
Some people just have to make a big deal out of nothing! Don't worry about someone calling you racist. If you don't feel safe-don't go! :-)
@ shopperbob why am I not surprised? There is a lot I could say about you to, but I am going too take the highroad.

Anyone could have said that, I thought she was trying to describe the situation without any other motive. Safety first and if you are still alive maybe you can be politically correct.
Come on folks, this hot topic, which, unbelievably, even FREE is afraid to touch, could be debated without resolve, ad infinitum. Like Lisa and AustinMom suggested, let's agree to disagree, love one another and move on. What else worthwhile is possibly left to say??
