Ross Sizing Audit

Has anyone done a Ross sizing audit? It says you'll count and size 625 items over 5 categories. That sounds like it would take quite awhile and might not be worth it for $16. Your experienced feedback is much appreciated!

It really does not take too long. Once you count 125 in one category you move on to the next. The hardest one to count is the shoes. I have done several and I find them quite easy since the stores I shop in keep the stock well organized and do not often have mis-sized items.
@Insight -- How long does it take to complete, including data input/reporting?

@americanjoe -- It says not to announce yourself unless a manager asks what you are doing. I don't mind a revealed audit

@SunnyDays2 -- I have my concerns. I just thought I'd check because, sometimes, things that look like a nightmare turn out to be pretty easy.

oh okay thanks. I like revealed audits. this must be a different company as I don't see it on my list. Thanks for the information.
I've done the Ross sizing audits. It usually takes me an hour or so in the store and the report input is five to ten minutes. Is it worth it? Maybe not if you have to drive especially for that one job, but if you can string it on a route, not so bad. Whatever, when you get done you get $16 more than what you had when you started. I think it's OK pay if I don't have a more lucrative offer.

I havec done these audits for years and remember when they paid $18 per audit and only counted a 100 items per category. I can do an audit in about 45-50 minutes and many times enter the results back at my car. I agree that the shoes are the pain, but the men's shoes are usually easy to slide to the edge to see the size sticker.
These take me about an hour ~ sometimes a bit less, sometimes a bit more. Shoes are a giant pain in the ass. Otherwise, they are easy-peasy. I have one location literally five minutes from my house, and another couple that aren't that far. Also, as Mary said, if you can fit an hour in along a route, they're good.

The report really is only five to ten minutes. So we're talking $16 for an hour's work, not counting your drive-time... hence why they're good if they're close to home or along a route (where you have an hour you can work in there).

I always go for them.

I'm sorry, Tara; I'm afraid we can't do that. smiling smiley

And, in my area, it's been the same MSC for a long time... then another one ended up with them! So (like many other clients) it may all depend on where you live, anyway.

Both of them do have threads currently on the first page of the Mystery Shopping Company Discussion section, though. Not right at the top, but on the first page. I think it's OK to tell you that much. smiling smiley

I love these audits, once you do a few they are a snap....but then, my Ross is a very neat and organized store and that makes them very simple and quick. I drive by there every day on my way to work so to me it's well worth it, plus they pay like clockwork....
Thank you all for your input. If I put it on my route this week, I'll come back and update this thread.
Don't think I'd ever take on the sizing audit, but I did a bonused shop last night. Purchase and return, which I don't usually do, but the bonus was great. Felt a bit guilty about the report. What a cake walk! I love it when they tell you NOT to make too many comments and just put "NA" in the box if you answered everything with a "yes". Wow!

Is anyone else putting "no" on the question, if all the registers are used and adding a comment on the bottom?

Hmmm... no, I didn't address that particular 'no', now that I think about it. Although, I don't think I ever have, and have never been contacted about it.

I always think that's weird, too, that they specifically ask you to not make too many comments! What a difference!

I just had a really nicely bonused one, too. smiling smiley

Yes! I did the other day. Why?

I put no also for the registers. Only two registers were open. I doubt I put a comment but possible could have if I was on top of my game. (tee hee - doubtful)

I find this store really odd. I did the non-reveal shop. There were two guards at the entrance. In the jewelry case there was costume jewelry for $3!!! There was a marked lack of inventory at this store.

This store is in a nice town, one of the classic wonderful towns in America. I don't see guards at the competitor stores. Just wondering what your local store is like.

I am not sure they really want a comment for that question. I might be over-thinking it. I have put in comment, not put in comment and was never questioned or have the report sent back. I was just curious what everyone else is doing.

Interesting.....That makes me wonder if the reports are just a ruse to show the board or stockholders that "Yes, we care about customer service. Look! We use mystery shoppers."

Has anyone ever had a report returned?

It is odd. It's the same around here, locked up cheap jewelry and guards, but the inventory levels are usually okay. There are 2 in my area, both in nice neighborhoods. Maybe they lock up anything small that can be easily stolen?

I love doing them. I can do one in about 50 minutes or so, dependsn how many regular shoppers are browsing the section you are trying to count. It takes less than 5 minutes to enter the report. I usually do 3 or 4 in a route and it's an easy write up night.

I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.
I used to do these a lot. In the organized and well runs stores the time in store is about an hour and input is 5-10 minutes. In stores that are poorly run, the count can take longer and the input longer as well. I have not seen any in my area in a while though and whenever I go to that MSC's job board it tells me I am not qualified for any of their work in the 8 states I regularly shop.... I used to like them as a change of pace. One manager got sent around to fix problem stores and he started to recognize me. He kept trying to buy me lunch or something to make the audits better than they were. He finally got his own store and did a great job of cleaning it up.
So glad to see this thread! I saw the audits too and am contemplating taking my local one. I figured it's comparable in time spent as to the Sears Auto audit I did this week. But, people on another thread thought the pay on the Sears audits was low. My Sears Auto was the same price as this Ross Audit, so I am glad to see some of y'all think it's a fair price for the work. So, it's not a pain counting the clothes, just the shoes? I think I will pass the test then and self-assign for today! smiling smiley Thanks jjamesanywhere for starting this thread!
Yep ~ hate shoes, clothes are fine.

The only possible exception is if you get Junior's clothes... especially the dresses! 'Neat' is one thing teenage girls are not. smiling smiley

I did one of these sizing audits yesterday and I ran across a trick I haven't seen before. Someone doing pricing had run the tagger line through the sizing tab, twisted it up, and then put it through the seam at the top so that it was extremely difficult to straighten it out enough to read the sizing. Maybe this was their version of spitting in the tea, I dunno, but it made for a long audit. I ran into at least a hundred garments in juniors and ladies with this problem. Didn't see it in the mens departments at all. I reported this and hope the store can figure out who did it. Cheap trick.

I should say it is. I don't see what employees could gain by making it more difficult for us to read the sizing, anyway. As long as they keep things organized, which isn't *too* difficult, we're just confirming they're doing a good job!

Plus that makes it more difficult for customers and other employees, when they really are trying to organize things. Geesh.

Unfortunately, in so many stores, no matter what you are doing in THEIR store, you are the enemy. Little territorial despots. 'Defend the racks, invaders in Juniors! Price guns at the ready ASSociates. Our goal is to obstruct the auditors!'
