Half approved for my first hotel/timeshare shop!

Got a phone call from the scheduler today telling me that my application was chosen to complete this assignment. Of course I had to do a phone interview to make sure I completely understood the assignment.
After getting approval from the MSC, they have to wait to get the approval from the timeshare company before moving forward., which should be tomorrow - I hope!

Keeping my fingers crossed as I actually like doing timeshare presentations (with the hubby) and want to enjoy this "staycation" while getting paid to record the presentation, get a free gift (from the presentation) and doing a few nearby fun date shops to keep the weekend enjoyable!

Hoping I get the approval from (unsaid timeshare company)!!!

There are more than one timeshare company,, so maybe this one is different?

The timeshare in Florida was posted by a different msc and not the clientsmart msc that had them for years.

if you want to mess with the presenter ask him how Diamond Resorts differs from their company. Then tell them you heard about something called Club Select. Ask them why they don't have something where you can get a vacation for 7 days including flight and hotel for only $90 (for the week). Do this mind you when they get down to the numbers. Also - now this is mean mind you - take the paper from the sales person and write down a real low-ball number like $50 a month and see the reaction. The eyes and the facial expression is key hear. Don't talk after you give the number, just keep looking at the number than at their face. The manager may come over and after they do, you walk away. Do not give them your credit card or they could box you in.

My last job was a "vacation counselor" which is a timeshare salesman. Most timeshare reps loath "lookers" (which is what you are) however if the looker is good, then the rep can learn alot.

Oh and if it is Wyndham then ask them why they have an "F" rating across their board with such a high return/ cancellation rate. Ask them why their points are the highest in the industry as well. Talking about fractional vs whole weeks will get them wincing by the way.

I've never done timeshares as a mystery shopper but I've been to a lot while on holiday to get the free deals. I usually end up being passed from up the line two or three times before they finally give up on me. Since the deals usually specify a time limit commitment such as 45 minutes or one hour. I make note of the time when I enter and when the 45 minutes is over, I thank them and ask for my promised free gift. It usually takes another 5-10 minutes to actually get the gift and get out of there.
Since I tell them right up front that I am not interested in purchasing a time share, I feel no guilt over taking their free gift once I've given them the allotted time.
I have received dinner cruises, passes to Universal Studios, Sea World, televisions, microwaves, etc. I have also had offers for hotel stays and longer cruises which I have so far passed up.
Getting paid in addition to the getting the free gifts sounds like a great deal. I hope you are approved.
Bena,
For these shops you must show considerable interest in order to five the sales associate AND the closer an opportunity to close you. Stating up front that you won't be buying will get your shop rejected, since these tend to be recorded shops. But, you are right, some of the freebies are well worth the hassle.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I thought I read somewhere that some of the timeshare places require a credit check before you can get the free weekends etc with the presentation at the end.
Yes, all that I have seen in many years have required credit checks.

It's a soft credit check. The MSC requires proof of your credit before you can be assigned before you go so you won't be turned away once you get there. I check my credit report often so I opened it, took a screen shot and sent it in for proof. I have no problem with a soft hit but if it was more, I wouldn't do it.

I use to work for a vacation club and was a top sales"lady" so I am very aware of every.single.tactic they use. But I am also aware that this particular assignment requires a recording of the entire presentation and afterwards, when they come to give me the "gift" in the hotel room. . . hmmmm. . . now that I think about, maybe I don't want that "gift" winking smiley

Or perhaps, that's why I have to record the "gift giving" part - or video tape it? winking smiley I'm totally kidding. Sorry got off track. But I find it a little funny that they will be coming to the hotel room the morning after the presentation to bring my gift (and try to continue to sell me timeshare).

We will NEVER purchase timeshare, ever. We are unfortunately being gifted (punished) with debt from my husbands grandparents to help out with the tens of thousands of dollars in maintenance fees from being platinum level. Ugh.

Still awaiting the approval.

Got the approval!!
Yay.
The report is the shortest report I've ever seen. I just finished reading hotel shop nightmares and am happy this is only a timeshare shop that requires a 3 night hotel stay. Phhew!!

Where can you get these timeshare shops ?? Please pm me!! I already know about coyle and regal!
YAY!

dk these shops are mostly out of Branson and California. Now if you want you could get a "groupon" and end up doing the tour to get your stay for free just for taking the tour.

I've had a timeshare for 12 years and while I don't use it often, I've been able to rent it every year I haven't used it and this has covered all the maintenance fees and pops a few hundred extra dollars in my pocket every year. Every company is different so caveat emptor - do your due diligence - and walk away with firm decisiveness if what is offered isn't what you want. There are a lot of options being presented out there. These presentations are definitely great practice in raising objections, being assertive in getting the information you need and learning how not to get pushed around. I've heard some awful stories and have also seen some terrible presentations on my travels so be prepared for anything.

Fortunately my timeshare works for me and I will pass it on to someone I love when I die so they can continue to benefit from it. I am satisfied with my experience.

Have fun at the presentation and on your weekend, NotSoSecretShopper!

If someone could tell me which MSCs do time shares, that'd be great. I don't need to know which companies they represent, so you shouldn't be breaking your ICA.
