I've Never Bought a Lottery Ticket

I recently signed up with a new to me MSC and am trying to psych myself up to try convenience store shops. These are SO outside my comfort zone, right along with gas station audits and purchase and return shops.

I'm nervous about buying lottery tickets. I don't know anything about the lottery and am sure that I'll sound like an idiot. I think I have to choose 1 of 4 types of tickets, which means that I have some research to do.

Any suggestions or advice?

"Can I get a Powerball ticket?"

Really, it's not that difficult. smiling smiley

Go do a practice shop. Ask all the questions you need to there. Make up a story like, "I was thinking of giving someone a lottery ticket for her birthday but I've never bought one before." When you do the real shop you'll be more relaxed. You don't even need to actually buy one in the practice shop, just say, "Her birthday is coming up in two weeks so I'll get one just before that day if I decide to do this." (Have a date picked out just in case they ask, "Oh really, what day? My wife's birthday is coming up too."winking smiley

Be sure to find out the prices of the tickets. Some of the multi-state lotteries are $2. The local lottery may be only $1. Or maybe they're all $2 these days. But know which one you will get and what it will cost. Find out if you have to pick your own numbers or do a "quick pick" where the machine randomly picks the numbers for you. If you're required to fill out your own ticket, ask the clerk on the test shop how you fill it out. I've never done a shop where I could get a lottery ticket so I don't know the requirements. But there are several games to choose from generally, I know that much.

I only get tickets when it's in the mega millions, and half the time I don't remember in time even then.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
The first lottery ticket shop I ever did I won $25 on my $4 investment. Made a $19 profit and went on my way. It made up for the fact that the MS company found fault with the shop and got out of paying me for it. THEN they said I owed them the $19 on top of it (some shops want you to hand over your winnings). I told them what to do with that idea.

Convenience stores are generally easy to do. For the lottery part, keep it simple. States have various ways to play the numbers game. Play the Powerball or Megamillions. Powerball is $2 and Megamillions is $1, The clerk may ask you if you want to play the megaplier, which will double your winnings on the lower tier prizes.
Powerball is drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays, current jackpot $110 million.
Megamillions is drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays, current jackpot $28 million.

When you're at the register, just follow bgriffin's advice.

Good luck.

Wow. Hope you don't shop for them any more!

Never worked for them again!

Some shops want you to hand over the winnings when they pay for the gambling, but an unpaid shop means anything purchased is yours, not theirs. What a bunch hoodlums. Out of curiosity, how did they even know you won?

It was a scanned image on the report form. It wasn't until afterward that they said one of the answers was "too ambiguous" and they couldn't use the report. MULE FRITTERS!! It is my opinion that the report was used and this was just an excuse to get out of paying for it. I saved the correspondence detailing how we are required to turn over winnings and I replied that they are also required to PAY for shops performed.

Since you never worked for them again, you wouldn't care to share who it was, would you?
That is why you buy TWO lottery tickets. Different receipts. If one is a winner that one is the one you bought. The loser is the one the MSC bought

That sounds like a good idea, but I have to scan my tickets. However, I can keep my winnings.

Mcreader--Do the instructions say that you have to fill out a ticket? If not, I'd say "Quick pick, please" and leave it to fate.
