Why are so many 5 Guys sitting on the boards?

MSC no longer offers 5 Guys shops to me. I have no idea why. All I get offered are the Golden Arches, which my doctor won't let me do, and the grocery comparison shops. Oh, I also do Panera, which I love, and Ace Hardware, which I also enjoy. But it appears that MSC is weaning me off their shops slowly but surely. And that hurts.

Is there a twist in the shop requirements that's causing people to be outed? Or is it a normal restaurant visit? I'd never actually heard of this restaurant until a month ago, but now I see there are even a bunch here in Canada.

Just curious, I see a shop posted for a time and location that I'll be at in a few weeks. Is it a fairly straight-forward order, or are there weird instructions?
I never take 5 Guys from the job board, even the bonuses on the board are to low. I always wait until they call me and offer at least $16-18, but I still wonder if this is not to low. Just curious how much do they offer you when they call you?

It's very straightforward. Order, give them a chance to upsell you, check to see if they shook the fries fifteen times, get one timing, evaluate the food, evaluate the store, check the restroom. (Okay, maybe counting the fry shaking is a bit weird.)

Here's my theory on why people get outed. The shop is very important to the employees--they share big money if they do everything right. (I forget how much, but I was surprised at how much.) So, that leads to a lot of watching for the shopper and checking the video.

Thanks Ishmael. Is it a fast-food/take-out type restaurant where it's normal to be standing at the counter watching them put together the meal while you wait? Or is it a sit-down restaurant where you'd get strange looks peeking into the kitchen watching them shake your fries?

It is! I don't know why, but it is. And it depends on which fryer their shaking the fries over ~ sometimes their back is to you and it's difficult to see. Also, for some reason, it's difficult for me to count *that* fast. Heh.

I thought I remember someone on here saying it was $100 per employee working when the MS went down.

But... WHY wouldn't that simply lead to always doing your job correctly, and having a good attitude, and being nice to everyone? smiling smiley Is that really *that* difficult? I think that's the point of the MS program... to get them to be that way all the time. But, especially if you have a shopper who regularly gives you good reports, WHY try and out that person?

The room service waitress at a casino hotel lied through her teeth in an attempt to out me. Considering she truly excelled at her job and received an absolutely glowing report, we (the scheduler and me) were floored. She also claimed to know me from some bar and I had never even heard of the place.

I am really glad I read this thread. I was tempted to do a 5 Guys shop IF the pay went up, but there is no way I'm gonna count how many times someone shakes the fries! How could they be certain you'd be there at the exact time when new fries were being made? Were you supposed to hang around and wait? What nonsense!
They're always shaking fries and usually it's far more than 15 times. You have to be in the store for at least 15 minutes so there are plenty of opportunities to witness the fry-shaking.
The way the 2 NYC locations I'be been to are set up, as well as the crowds of people that come in, you wouldn't be able to see the fries shaking that easily. Plus it's just a bit too ridiculous.
I stopped doing them when they lowered the payment--and I have one that's less than 2 miles from home. I love their fries but have my integrity to maintain.
I think the reports are pretty easy. I've done two and while $9 isn't a ton of money, I'll do one if I'm out and about and would stop to eat something anyway. Last time I did one, I felt like they suspected I was the shopper. Too much staring and glancing at me.
Question for the new Call In 5 Guys guidelines - are we still supposed to spend 15 minutes in the restaurant? That question is on the report.
Yes. At least when I did one I was required to.

I see they're back on the board again. A lot of them with different times to shop. :O
I do not see the Five Guys shops in my area any more. I do go to Five Guys about once a month without it being a shop. The staff is almost always different. Maybe one or two employees will be the same as the previous visit. They have a high turnover from month to month or the employees I have seen previous may not be working that shift. If I go out of state I act like a shopper writing notes and looking at my watch just to see the reaction. Normally I just turn on the recorder and wait till I get home to time get the details.

The MSC has no appreciation for experience. They want to see a "fresh face" when in fact the turnover really makes your face fresh to that location. The turn over of employees in the other fast food chain the MSC has has a higher turn over. You can go there every week and see a different crew.
bgriffin how do you stay in there for 15 minutes if you are not eating your food? That is such a clue that it is a mystery shopper. I prefer to have it denied than to do that and not be able to eat there again.
You call in your order and eat it there. I thought it would be weird, honestly, but it made the shop go quicker and wasn't odd at all. I walked in, paid, they handed me my drink and bag, and I sat down and ate. Nobody ever even looked at me weird and the place was pretty much empty.

Okay, I must ask. If you order the shake + the fountain drink, how much does that take you over the reimbursement, including the sandwich and fries, of course...
I've never ordered a shake and not she they are offered here. I go eight cents over budget every time.

I bet my shop will be rejected. Hope not. Haven't ever had problems with this MSC before.

I haven't been picking them up because the bonus hasn't hit my minimum for the shop.

They almost never bonus here ........... although I have never seen them sit on the board like they have the couple of months. Maybe it'll be a first. I might decide to break down and take their stupid Five Guys test and get certified.
Banned since early 2013. And I don't really miss them though I'd be temped by a wider set of ordering options.

I was banned after bring spotted at a store that had consistently gotten great marks from me.
I got the veggie sandwich last time, hated it! It was like a burger sandwich but without the burger. just a few grilled mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles. Like they forgot to put something on the sandich! If I'm gonna have a veggie sandwich, put some real lettuce and stuff on it. Two little pieces of pickles, mushroom, one little lettuce and sliver of tomato ain't gonna cut it.
The veggie sandwich form them is terrible. Hot dog is not bad.

I don't know why, but I do Five Guys with glee! They do require timing (not hard) and observation, but I just love doing them! They reimburse me for most of my meal, the food has always been good, and it's just a good place to work!

I snag these shops the second I see one. They go fast in my neck of the woods. LoL. I did have to take the test but the shop is super easy. Pays $7 for dinner and $11 reimbursement in my area. Good to know if I am busted I am out.
I am good at deception. I once hid all the transmitters on the old phones at my workplace, put them in the drawer of the desk of my co-worker and friend, and then had friends call in before we officially opened. It was hilarious, and he was hem hawing.

So I confess, and on one believes me! This has been the story of my life. I can't take credit for my badness.
