Getting the Managers Name

I am fairly new to mystery shopping. Can anyone give me some tips on how to easily get the name of the manager? Some times you don't even see the manager. What if you leave and realize you don't have his name? What is a good way to call and get the name without raising flags?

Thanks!

I usually just ask the server, maybe commenting that the service or food was good, if it was. Or, I place a call after I leave and ask who's the manager on duty.
One time I absolutely had to get the manager's name for a theatre assignment. I was afraid if I just asked outright "who is the manager?" they might think I was going to complain or make some kind of fuss. I just casually asked "so, is Mike the manager tonight?" The cashier asked another employee who the manager was that night and I got my answer. They also did say that they didn't think they had a manager named Mike, to which I replied, "hmm, he must have quit." confused smiley

Could I have a receipt please?
I actually approach the manager at the movie theatre and make up some reason why I need to speak with him. I get his name tag info, thank him and leave smiling smiley

That's a tough one. I am obsessive with name-capturing so usually that does not happen. I might gather 8 names and have to approach one of the associates to "re-capture" his name later.

In this case, I would call the location and say, "Can I speak to Manager Joe?" If they say, we have no Joe, I would say, "Oh darn, I think I forgot his name... Do you know the name of the manager?"
If you have left you are pretty much out of luck, you could try calling and ask for the manager, they might answer, "this is Mike".

I have used, "The manager looks familiar is her name Susie?"
All good answers. You can also go with "Hey, my [friend, son/daughter; pick what's age-appropriate] is looking for a job, who's the manager here?" Even if applications are through corporate, there are still those job-seekers who want to meet the manager to make a good impression.
Do guidelines require that you spot, and interact the manager? My husband generally gets the duty of getting the MOD's name. Sometimes have to hold my breath as he goes in search. I watch as he peers through sneeze guards, or accidentally-on-purpose nearly collides with the manager. If I have not spotted a manager at all, I ask the server if I can speak to him/her. When the manager appears, I may compliment service or food, ask about hosting a group for a graduation/birthday/anniversary celebration, or sporting event if it's a sports bar. If I ask for the MOD, and am told s/he is not available, or will be back later, uh-oh. That's what gets reported. (Never hurts to have an audio, just in case.)
