MPSA Shopperfest: Anybody going to this event?

MSPA is happy to announce the very first ShopperFest,
October 17-19 2014 at the Hilton Garden Suites Hotel in beautiful Orlando, Florida.

Has anyone ever been to one of these type events? Is it worth going? It's their first (surprisingly) but I was kind of interested.

There are alot of florida shoppers on here so I'm
some will go.

If you can, change the headline of the topic to
MSPA shopper fest so people can search and find it easier.

I registered to attend the Shopper's Fest. I have attended a conference every year since I became a shopper and I find them to be extremely valuable. Each conference IMSC/MSPA has its benefits, and personally I can't say that one is better than the other. The MSPA stopped providing conferences when the economy tanked. Prior to that, I had attended 3 MSPA conferences. I found them to be exceptional opportunities to network with providers and shoppers. The material was well presented and the conferences were always professionally moderated. When the MSPA dropped out, IMSC was created by a group of dedicated shoppers who valued educating and providing a forum for shoppers to become more effective. They did this at considerable personal risk, because they fronted funds to organize the first conference, not being assured if anyone would even attend. I have found these conferences to be interesting, frustrating, fun, boring, so really a mix. I have always found them to be invaluable. Networking with shoppers and learning from each other is the best way for us to become better as an industry. The information for the shopper's fest can be found on the MSPA website. IMSC New Orleans is underway, but Vegas is just around the corner. I would highly recommend that you attend at least one conference. You will be surprised at the things you can learn, and more importantly, the people that you can meet! Get a mitt and get in the game! smiling smiley
Well, I just find it a bit odd that MSPA is booking shoppers into a separate hotel, and the won't be much, if any, overlap with the MSPA member meetings. How many major ms managers are going to hang around to network with shoppers? How many workshops will be led by shoppers? How many non-MSPA companies will be there? Video? Most video mscs do not belong.

finally, word is out that silver and gold MSPA will be discontinued, as will be recognition of currently certified shoppers in the near future? So, what has MSPA done for you recently?

I just got an e-mail with the detailed agenda for the MSPA ShopperFest in October. I thought it was a one-day event after the MSC portion of the conference basically ended. Now it looks like a 2-day or 2 1/2-day event including dinner and breakfast. Several MSCs will be there according to their schedule.

I did get an e-mail response from a coordinator for the conference saying, "You are currently an MSPA Shopper member, however your membership has expired. You will need to renew your membership prior to registering for the conference."

I'm confused. (What else is new?) How can I currently be a member but have my membership expired? And are they saying that shoppers can not attend unless they are a paid member with MSPA?

It looks like shoppers cannot attend without being a paid member with MSPA, from what you posted.

BTW, do they have shoppers on the agenda as major presenters? The president of IMSC volunteered to make a presentation and they declined.

Will Dave from sentry be doing any presentations?

I would like to attend his. Bgriffin will be there too.

I'm not sure about shoppers as speakers but I do see several speakers from various MSCs. The Founder of MSPA Europe will be a speaker among the current and past presidents in the US.

It looks like two breakfast buffets and one dinner buffet is included in the conference fee since the only additional food charge is for an optional Medieval Times dinner for $60.00.

They are offering two sessions on Video Shopping.

Hrm. I've been thinking about a shopping trip to Florida, maybe I'll go that week and hit up the festivus!

I nominate bgriffin as a speaker. I can only imagine the things that will come out of his mouth.

You do not have to be a shopper member to attend ShopperFest but if you are a member you do receive a discount. Registration fees for non-members is $150 and for MSPA Shopper members $125. Being a member of MSPA has other benefits as well, such as a quarterly newsletter, webinars, and the ABENITY program where you get deep discounts on everything from movies, dining, travel, amusement parks all for $20 a year. More benefits are currently being developed.

We made the decision to have Shopperfest at the Hilton Garden Suites in Orlando to keep the room rates reasonable for shoppers.

Shopperfest is the time to meet with company owners and the Board of Directors during the reception Friday night before a full day of educational speakers Saturday and Sunday. Education classes will be held Sunday along with video training and MSPA video certification.

And don’t forget the optional event at Medieval Times Saturday night where shoppers and MSPs can get together for a fun time while having dinner and watching the show.

Ha! Please tell me when going to this seminar really pays off. I already paid xx to be a xx member of MSPA and then I will need an additional $125 - $150 to go to the seminar to learn a little more plus travel plus hotel? No thank you. On the tiny As a member of ABENITY discounts- I have found no discounts YET which compare to other online websites offers/discounts.
I'm sort of curious about this event as well and would love to hear how attending these events has been helpful to shoppers.

The time and place works for me!

Being a member in order to obtain a discount for conference attendance sounds reasonable and was always the case in my 'real' job.

No one was successful at the conference in New Orleans

Nope. I don't think I'd get many shops to do there, with that many shoppers going, so it wouldn't be profitable.
