Why do they want a "picture of the receipt?"

I always scan mine in onto the website but lately it seems, they want you to take an actual "picture" with your camera, as well as, a scanned copy of the receipt, entered into the site.

Why the need for a "picture of the receipt?"

Symantics, I think. Scans and pictures are synonymous, in my mind. I rarely use my phone or camera for images, unless it's a photo audit. Haven't enountered the requirement to upload both a picture and a scan.
I always sent pictures of my receipt. I thought the blur was about how they received the receipt. The point they were making was scanned receipts sometimes was not as clear and was not readily available as was the report. THe MSC had to wait longer for the scanned receipt to reach the cyber threshold. What was obvious to us was not so obvious to them. That's my take on itsmiling smiley
They want two copies of the same receipt?

Maybe it would help if we knew who "they" are who wants this.

Maritz requires the receipt attached to the report, and another copy attached to the invoice so you can get reimbursed.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
Same with Market Force. It's annoying when photos have to be under 1MB to be uploaded. It's much easier to upload the photos of exteriors and receipts from my phone without having to tweak them.

Some MSCs prefer PDFs and/or accept both PDF and jpg photos.

I have mostly been taking photos with my cell phone, emailing them to myself at a smaller size, then saving them on the computer before uploading. I just started scanning receipts as jpg files because it's only one step, as the photos are always under 1MB! Nobody's complained yet. smiling smiley
I was thinking Maritz as well--photos only, one on the report, copy on the invoice. I much prefer being able to do a .pdf because the app I use for that is simple to resize if needed grinning smiley. It also is much easier to read and you can zoom in on any part of the receipt. If I have to use an actual photo, my cell phone has a crop feature that works in a similar manner but it's a bit more touchy.

nycrocks--not sure what kind of computer you have but I use Microsoft Picture Manager and I can select all of the photos I want resized and do them all at once. For the gas station audits I do, it's usually 15-20 photos and takes about 7 seconds to resize all of them. I know what setting works so I just select that one. It's part of the Office software if you have that.
I use the Corporate Research resizer. But if I'm using my camera, I set it to 640x480 before shooting so there's no resizing needed. I wish I could set my cell phone camera that low but I can't so I don't use it for Maritz or Corporate research pics so I don't have to do any resizing most of the time.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
I did two shops for MF last week. They wanted photos of the receipts, and I had to upload the image. But, at the end of the report, it also asked for the receipt. So essentially I had to upload it twice for each report. Strange.
I have been sending scanned copies of the receipts and I have had no problem. I use digital camera for photos. I scan both receipts and pics but resize them, depending on the MSC. Sometimes they do want resizing. Only during emergency did I ever use my cell to take a picture of the receipt. And I prefer using my digital camera to take photos.

Scanned receipts are almost always clearer than photos for one simple reason. They are fixed in place. Not everyone can hold a camera completely still to take a photo of a receipt. Using a scanner (unless it's a hand-held) is always preferable to using a camera.

I used to scan but it took more time than just taking a picture of it. Whenever I scanned,I just made the file a .jpg. No problems.

It’s funny, I always use the same scanned copy of my receipt for the report as I do for the receipt submissions. I just scan and name it once and give it to them twice. They have never questioned me about it though.

I would think that they would tell me that the scanned one is unacceptable for the report if it is. As far as I know a JPG is a photo even if it is made by a scanner. I could wrong though.

It seems to me that the receipt in the report stays with the information they forward to the client and the one we submit after the report must be going to their Accounts Payable Department for our payments.

I've done thousands of receipt scans and never had a rejected one.....But okay, it was A&F (Abercrombie and Fitch) that wanted a "picture" of the receipt, plus the receipt at the end, where they ask for your receipt.

I think 99% of the MSC's are good with your scanned receipt. A very few times, I have seen on the report that they want the picture of the receipt and the scanned portion in the report...strange indeed smiling smiley

I scan in jpg. Most want jpg, a few want those damn pdf''s ....
I have tried using my camera to submit pics of the receipt, but I always get an email asking for a clearer picture. So I end up scanning them in the end.

For the shops that require one in the report and one separate (Sinclair does this) I always use the same scans and they have never said anything about it.

I have actually considered getting a portable scanner just so I can do my reports quicker.
Try the macro setting on your camera. I don't want to wait until returning home to get a shot of the receipt in case something happens to it on route. My photos with both the phone and camera are always legible. The macro setting made it that much easier with the camera. The added benefit to pics with my phone is having them upload to the cloud saving me steps at report time and creating a back up copy automatically. I also try to have all photos from any particular day be from the same device. It saves time looking for them later.

I always just take a picture of my receipt and even it says "scanned receipt" I upload it. I have never had anyone come back and tell me to re do it. I can see an MSC asking for a scanned and photo of a receipt bc some get pretty ridiculous.

I do have MS Office, and I have used the software you're talking about before for personal photos. If I ever do shops requiring multiple photos and I'm using a digital camera rather than a cell phone, this is a good tip to keep in mind. Thanks!
I always use my phone for pictures it always seem to take them jsut below most shops requirments and it is a good megapixel so works well.
