What happens when they're not shopped anymore...

Whataburger maybe should rethink that decision not to be shopped anymore!

Warning - the video should not be opened at work! (language)

Wow! Just wow. I find the re-serving of food to a customer that had been opened by another customer to be shocking enough without the video of angry responses from employees when the customer wouldn't accepted the re-served food.

Maybe WB management will re-think their decision and reinstate their mystery shopping program. Although, having done the WB shops from 2008-2014, I will say the shops and reports were very easy and focused on certain things. Comparing these shops and reports to all the other fast food shops I have done, I can't imagine that the reports would have been of great value to Whataburger management in assessing their customer service, speed of service, and facility issues. If I were WB management, I would contact several mystery shopping companies and consider building an evaluation that would help me further my customer service initiatives.
Re-serving food that has been across the counter at all, whether opened or not, may violate health codes.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
1. The employee who shouted, "I'll spit on your food" should be fired.

2. How hard is it to cook another burger?----The manager who said throw the touched burger in another bag, should be fired. tongue sticking out smiley
Whataburger said in a news release that "the employees involved have been let go." It isn't clear from their release which employees Whataburger deemed to be "involved." The manager should definitely be gone as well as anyone involved in re-serving the food. The scary thing about the employee who yelled "I will spit in your food" was that he was so quick with that threat. My perception is that he probably will eventually do that and probably already has. And, having been fired from Whataburger, he'll just be working at McD, BK, Wendy's, or some other fast food restaurant next week or next month. That is someone who does not belong in food service.

Plan the work. Work the plan.
I really enjoyed the Whataburger shops and the MSC who had them. The reports were a fair amount of work for the fee earned and the schedulers were always nice to work with.

Come on Whataburger...you need us mystery shoppers!
I was signed up with the MSC that has/had Whataburger, but either the ordering requirements didn't match what I usually order or something I could tolerate (I think this is one of the fast food shops where you have to order a burger with either mustard or mayonnaise, both of which I abhor), or the shops simply weren't available on the board.

The worst part is, like Chipotle and their MSC, it appears this MSC had Whataburger as either their only client or their primary client. I feel for the people that worked there that are in all likelihood about to be looking for work soon.
Regarding "spitting in the food" I have a few instances I would like to share:

I went to dinner with my bf (at the time) and I requested they take back my steak and cook the blood out of it. My boyfriend said the following: "This is Florida. We do NOT send our food back! You just don't do that here. If you do, they will SPIT on your food." I said, "Let them spit on it. I don't want a rare steak and I am not paying (or you) for a steak that is cooked wrong." smiling smiley

Second example (sick but true) A cook hated the maids that were employees, that came into the dining room demanding double drinks, salads, rolls and large heaping plates of food. One maid complained and sent her stew back. The cook grabbed the bowl of stew, fiddled with it a bit, sent me back out to tell her they were working on it and then handed it back to me.

I sent it back out, she said she liked the stew better..... and much later he said, "I fixed her. I reached under the rubber mat where tons of garbage and rotted food scraps were and dumped it in her stew" tongue sticking out smiley He was later fired, but for a different incident....
I would just like to take this opportunity to say that to the best of my knowledge, this has never happened anywhere in food service that I've worked. The only time I've ever seen anything remotely like it was when I worked at a pizza shop and this woman INSISTED I'd made her wings wrong. I hadn't. We had five wing sauces: barbeque mild, barbeque hot, garlic butter, buffalo, and atomic, which was all the parts of barbeque hot except the barbeque sauce and with added pureed jalapenos, which in Yankee country counts as "super spicy". This woman asked for atomic and swore I gave her mild. You'll notice that there's pretty much zero percent chance of mixing up barbeque mild--served straight out of the BBQ container--with atomic--which had several ingredients that had to be mixed by hand--without noticing that something is very wrong by virtue of color, consistency, and barbeque mild not making your eyes water if you smell it.

I very politely apologized, took her order into the kitchen, put everything back into the not-yet-emptied shaketub I'd used for her order, thumped it around a bit, and took it back out. She bit into one, went "mmmmm, now THAT'S what it's supposed to taste like" and took her order.

I HADN'T CHANGED A THING. No "special ingredients" (GROSS), no new sauce, nothing. Some people truly do want to just complain, but you don't rise to the bait. Period.
I have to be honest: I order food and if it's not right, I ask for it to be cooked correctly....

Shame on me and likely, I deserve to be thrown in a "vat of boiling oil" but I am not paying for food, that I am NOT going to eat tongue sticking out smiley
