T Mobile shops

I see many of these shops available. Soft credit hit, right?

For some reason, I am not comfortable with this. How many times can one's credit get a 'soft' hit?

I'm wondering.

Depends which MSC you are talking about. One is no credit hit. Another one is a credit hit.
cell phone companies only do hard credit hits.

Soft is pre qual offers that you receive in the mail.
Those don't count against your score and only you
can see them on your report.

That company is lying then. It states at the bottom of the email, SOFT CREDIT only and states that this is normal when one is shopping for a cell phone.
i know they are lying. I've been saying it for awhile that
they should stop being misleading

This must not be the same T-Mobile shop I am thinking of. The shops I have done do not require your credit report being pulled. They are supposed to attempt to close the sale and mentions that your credit will be pulled, but a shopper is not required to do so. For the shop referred to here, are you required to give your Social Security number and your credit report pulled?

I received emails about this shop. I have not accepted any of them, so I can't say if I would have to give my SSN and have my credit pulled but I assume I would have to do just that.

I deleted the emails but I remember them saying that it was normal to have credit hits.

I don't like this at all. It's not worth it for me to be doing these kinds of shops.

Thanks for your replies. smiling smiley
I did a T-mobile shop. No hit soft or hard but I do want to get paid. I will call the MSC this week to see what is happening. I don't like third party schedulersangry smiley
That's interesting, because T-Mobile specifically advertises that they do NOT do credit checks.

The harder I work, the luckier I get.
My understanding is that if a retail merchant pulls your credit to determine if you qualify for an account, it is always a hard inquiry on your credit report.

From my past experience as a loan officer for over six years, I know I am being lied to, as a shopper, when, last week, a merchant told me that it was a "soft inquiry" because it wasn't being done by a major credit card company. Baloney!

In my opinion, techman01 is exactly right. You can Google the difference between hard vs soft credit checks or you can click on this link from US News:

If this is the same T-Mobile shops I did you will get paid. I don't like third party schedulers either and didn't realize this was the case at the time. I haven't signed up for any more but did get paid promptly for the two I did.
I did one of the $35 T-mobile shops where they tell you T-mobile must check your credit. That was definitely a hard hit, although the guidelines said it would be a soft hit. Said it right on Kredit Karma. So, T-mobile does do credit checks. I did a different T-mobile shop ($10), where you do not have to give your SSN for a credit check.

These are very “light” credit inquiries and will only show up as inquiries from mobile phone stores – which happens every time you legitimately shop for a cell phone or service for yourself anyway.

Partial quote from email.
I applied for these and was told my credit was too good.

I don't understand who could actually take the credit hits for multiples of these if their credit is bad enough to be accepted for these?

I do not understand either, BBird0701. It makes no sense why a shopper having a borderline credit score would do these shops since your score takes a hit with each inquiry. I also have good credit and will only give out by SSN for bank studies.

In the beginning, they were accepting people with good scores. Now the guidelines say your score must be under 600 to be approved. Even if you were already approved, if your score is higher, you cannot do this round of shops.

I did 2 of these. My credit score is north of 800 and I was rejected for these shops at first. They then came back to me and said I could do them. I should see my new credit score this week when my Discover Card statement comes out. I will post an update as to how much these 2 affected by credit score. Hell, T-mobile told me I was approved to walk out the door with 19 $600 phones, without paying a penny (except taxes). That's over $11,000 in phones! Good Golly!
I think there are a few different msc's doing these shops with different guidelines.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. smiling smiley

I think you are right. The two that I did were inquiry shops with no SS # or credit hit. They were $10 or $12 with one photo of front of building. Quick shops but they were third party.
I have seen both and have completed one shop where I didn't have to give my social now I have two shops lined up that say there will be a hit as any cell provider does when you apply for a new phone. I saw something about third party above and I'm wondering why these are not showing up for the original MSC. It says in the email who they are but when I look on their job board these jobs aren't listed. I'm new so if they are paying a shopper $35.00 how much is the middle man getting? Just curious about why one company would contract to another company to contract an independent shopper??
I have bad credit applied and they got back to me saying I did not qualify. I guess my score was too low. So you must not be too high can't be too low. Maybe they should get the 3 bears to do it although only one would qualify.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
When I saw that company showing those $35 shops for another company, I thought maybe they were the same company, somehow. Don't ask me to explain my logic here, hahaha...

Got my credit score after doing 2 of these shops last month. Credit score didn't change a single point. Maybe it takes longer to affect it.
T-Mobile will run your credit if you are purchasing one of those expensive phones. I did it to spread out the payments on the iPhone 5.
