This is a first...

I went into a hotel to use their computer. I first, as usual, took all raw food out of the vehicle so my pup would not be even tempted to bite into the chicken sausage with fennel I scored while I was on a shop. I wanted to check my email and upload some data. I put the grocery plastic bag on top of the car and went into the hotel. I returned, all but salivating for the stuffed mushrooms that I would be steaming along side the sausage, to the vehicle. I look at the vehicle in bewilderment. I look inside the vehicle. I check the trunk. I check under the car. I even stepped onto the car and looked onto the roof which was not necessary since I could easily see over the car.

Some bleep stole my raw sausage and my raw stuffed mushrooms with cheese, spinach and beef in it.

I was shocked and peeved to say the least. To make matters worse, it was my last $7 for the week since I had to put gas in the car so it now means that I have to go home and open a can of something else. To add further insult to injury the receipt for the purchase of the shop was inside the bag! I can not just go and grab another item and pay for it that easily right now. What do I tell the scheduler? The shop is done and the groceries were stolen with the receipt. How do I fix this? Oh and should I mention that the shop is now way out of my way especially with my tank near empty because I did a route of 12 shops today and used the majority of the gas on those shops.

I am fuming.

People royally suck, don't they?

I learned the hard way to never leave the receipt in the bag. Food packages can leak all over your receipt, or tumble together and tear the receipt.

Plan the work. Work the plan.
I am so sorry to hear that! I have the tendency to lock my car even if I have to go back inside my house for only one minute. I know of too many people who left their car either running or open and it was stolen. No matter where you live there is always that one criminal who is waiting for the right moment. Even in the best towns. Sad isn't it?

Simply explain what occurred to the MSC, they may understand or they may not. Depending on what MSC it is.

I had thought I put the receipt in my pocket but this was such a special treat since I was penny pinching and I had spent 24 minutes in line waiting to be checked out. No I am not exaggerating the line took 24 minutes to move and only 4 lines open including the express lane which was just as slow. I was in a rush to get onto the next shop that I must have just shoved it into the bag, threw the car into drive and started checking my directions for the next place. I am so mad with myself that I just can't seem to open the pork and beans for dindin. I was suppose to be having sausage and mushrooms over a mesquite fire in the middle of the desert. Just so upset right now!

on the plus I paid with my emergency credit card I remembered! so maybe the shop can take that log instead? Yeah it's sad that my emergency card is that almost depleted...

That stinks. I think I would've just taken the bag inside with me. I would worry about someone tampering with it, if it was just sitting on my vehicle.
Bad days suck. gypsymonkey - hope it gets better for you. I can relate to pinching pennies. My budget is so tight that it squeaks.
One day in the future you'll tell this story with a smile and laugh along with those you're telling it to.
I realize this doesn't help now.

Sorry for your bad day! I agree with the above idea. I have had a couple of shops where either I did not receive a receipt or lost it and had to submit credit card transaction screenshot as proof of transaction.
Did you / could you check the garbage cans for a one or two block radius, as well as any landscaping? I would suspect that whoever stole it was looking for something other than dinner ingredients and may have chucked it somewhere that you could at least recover the receipt.

Gypsy, Why didn't you put the bag in the trunk? Or buy a very inexpensive small styrofoam cooler and some duct tape. Putting it on the roof of your car is asking for it to be liberated.
UM do you have a trunk? Store might be able to print out your receipt if they are with the new age of computers.

My trunk is a pass through right now. I have things that have made me put the seat down. Also Deaeren is small enough that she can squeeze through to the trunk with the seat up when she is determined. I hadn't thought to check around the areas garbage cans for the bag.
Please understand that I have put stuff on my hood/ roof of my truck so often that it has become second nature. I forget that a car is eye height unlike a truck. I wasn't thinking of the raw groceries as a target item. I just thought that I didn't want my pup to get it. I learned my lesson. I will never be going back to that area and I will not being leaving things on the roof of my truck.

The shop requires a 'real' reciept so I had to re-do the shop. I got an item for a dollar as proof of visit. I did try to get the store to reprint the original reciept but they stated they do not do that. I really wish I could have used the original shop since there was some awesome customer service found and the issue with the check out would have been nice to address.

Glad you were at least able to do a reshop. I have learned to take a picture of the receipt as soon as possible after leaving the location. Hopefully, I never lose my phone.
Sorry this happened to you!! One day soon you will see another post and use this as an example of what not to do because people suck...

From my own experience, and I will save you the story, unless you want to not feel so bad... just let me know, I always take a picture of the receipt as soon as I am in the car from the shop and email it to myself...

The reason I email it right away... well that is another "I was an idiot for a minute" story!!

I feel your pain love, good luck!

O.o o.O

Happily shopping New England and beyond!!!!!
Kathee70, must I beg you? I am a huge fan of "I was an idiot for a minute" stories, particularly, when the story isn't about me. Please share and, in return, I promise to diligently 1) try to convince you that what you did was not idiotic and 2) convey sincere sympathy for your disappointment.

Please, Kathee70, please. smiling smiley

Well, I can start with emailing immediately....

Goes something like, the picture was on the cell phone that was in my back pocket when I used the rest room. Yup, in the toilet it went... water logged and dead.

I was lucky that I had the receipt still.

The "lost" receipt... well, that goes something like what the OP was saying. I was in a hurry to get to the next shop, shoved it in my work folder and when I got out of the car and it fell into a puddle, the folder, the paperwork and the receipts...

Friggin idiot!!!

This is why you take a picture and email it to yourself immediately....

O.o o.O

Kathee, oh my goodness, my friend, these are not the actions of an idiot! I know you left out a lot of details with the intention of being brief, so perhaps I can help.

At my age, I have been known to elbow people out of the way as I make a mad dash for the ladies' restroom. By the time I get that stall door locked, there is not an extra second to spare, especially one to check the contents of my back pockets. Completely understandable and not your fault.

The puddle incident is another completely understandable event. First of all, there aren't all that many puddles nowadays; they're more like rivers and the next thing you know you're being sucked under for the third time, while trying to hold on to the shop's receipt. Eventually, it becomes a choice between your survival and saving the receipt. You made the right choice!

Kathee, I am so sorry you had to go through all of this and then to not get paid for your hard work or recognized for your bravery, well, that's so, so wrong. You will always be my shopper hero! smiling smiley

Oh, I got paid... for both of them, I just smartened up in the process. I also had, what I call, SMASH INSURANCE on my phones (and every electronic device I own for that matter) so the phone cost me nothing to replace and they were able to retrieve the pics and such so it didn't turn out bad it was just a Fky fk fk moment!!

I seem to remember a dinner I went to that wasn't a shop... was it you that suggested I eat the receipt???? LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Yes. Did it cause a problem? smiling smiley

If I had met you in the area, I would have got you another sandwich or given you money for gas. That really sucked! The sandwich sounded really good.
Geeze. Just about the same level of suckiness as having a bird @#$%& all over your paperwork while doing a gas station audit. Ha!

Chicken sausage and stuffed mushrooms and no cooler? While I'm sorry for your loss, I can't help but think that someone may have saved you from salmonella...or worse. Unless it's the dead of winter, when I go grocery shopping all meats and frozen foods go into a cooler in the car when I come out of the grocery store. I may not have ice in the cooler, as it's only about 25 minutes home, but I do make sure the meats don't have a chance to get above 45 degrees for an extended period and the frozen food stays frozen.

There's a farm about three hours from me that butchers their own hogs. When I'm in the area, I'll pick up a couple of pounds of bacon and sausage. They get put in two zip lock bags, then in the cooler under the ice.

You take your dog with you on shops? I only do that for the dog friendly shops. Then I can bring the dog in with me and not worry about him eating anything in the car.

What happened to you really is a bummer though.

Where do you live that you feel so comfortable to be so trusting? I live in the Poconos. A decade ago I had a crumby low level telemarketing job. I stopped at WAWA in Blakeslee (this is nowheresville literally!). I placed my $20 bill next to me while getting coffee with no one in site. Some lowlife managed to swipe it. I am from N.Y. Brooklyn none the less. After that incident I lock and hold all items. Blakeslee now has traffic but this is in the winter a decade ago. Don't you get worried someone will steal your car or puppy? You are willing to be decent and sacrifice, others are not. You are too trusting. I agree with the tampering comment. Your money or your life. Tell the exact truth to the MSC as it had worked for me and if possible send them a screenshot of your credit card payment.I didn't get the receipt once and my schedular suggested to do that. Sometimes the MSCs give you a good advice as to what could be done
