$315 for a twenty minute phone shop!

I just scored the best shop ever. It paid $15, but it also reminded me that my two year lock in with Dish Network was over with. The shop was a competition shop. I called Dish up and haggled with the sales rep. that wanted to throw a couple of premium channels at me for a few months. I just laughed at him. He put me on hold for a few minutes and I went at it with the "Retention Specialist".

I had the best offers pulled up for the local cable company, U-verse, and DirecTV to throw at him. The fact I am in a market with some real competition probably helped.

He finally made an offer for $25 off for 6 months. I stood firm that I could do better by switching and went into the questions about how to return the box and if the last months service is pro-rated. He then blinked and sweetened the deal to $30 off for the next 10 months with no contract!

$300 savings for a 20 minute phone call!

I'd do this call without a shop involved.

I intend to live forever. So far, so good.
When I called them, I did not think I would get anything, I had already called them back in June and they had given me $25 off the bill, Today when I called, they wanted to change my package first, and went over a list of channels I would loose, there was a couple that I like, still in shock for the deal they gave me.

You just HAD to one up me. What were you paying per month before you got that fat discount?

I was at just under $80 a month. This brings me down to below $50 a month.
I was paying 55.99 with the discounts they gave before.... then they gave me the $15 today. But that does not include what I have to pay for the DVR, taxes , etc. When you call back in a few months, they probably will shock you too.

My contract actually ends next month. I should take one of these... or just call and threaten to quit and not have to write a report about it. smiling smiley

Time to build a bigger bridge.
I put in for one of those, for DirecTV and am still waiting to see if I get it. I do call them every once in awhile to see what they can do for me, but I have not gone as far as speaking to retention. Having worked in the retention department of a credit card company, I have a little idea of what happens.

At my bank, the retention department had access to a "tool box" icon, that gave us "offers" to use to keep the client. Some of them were waiving 1/2 or all of the annual fee, the ability to lover the APR (and we were sposed to start high so it might be possible to offer a lower one if they called again), etc. I am sure that there are offers to give a premium channel or two, give credit on the DVR, etc. If the retention specialist does it right, and after talking to you and asking "open-ended" questions, chooses the right offer, then there are more available if you call back. The better the card holder account, the better offers we had. If it was an account that was not "profitable," we had no offers and closed the account for the card holder.
Um. I think I'm getting hosed. I pay $248.98. I better find one of those shops.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
wow.... could they give lower interest rates in the credit card retention departments? I did not realize credit card companies had those type of departments too. Thanks

My bill went from $89 to $32 including tax and kept 205 channels. No haggling, I just happened to have a Direct TV flyer from another shop and it was $17.99. Piece of cake! 10 months..but she told me to call back and ask for the next promo.
I did the same with my local cable company who's name i won't mention, but it has to do with "time". The retention agen promised to knock my bill in half to keep me. That was 3 months ago. I have yet to see it. So keep an eye on your bill to make sure that they honor the committment!

I know someone who has had a great improvement to his 30 yrs of MS. If you are interested I'd be happy to get you some information CureMS.
I was accepted and scheduled for the Dish call earlier this week. They have them in my area for Verizon Fios also, but we don't have it. Before it was due, I found out hubby had just called them the previous week and negotiated a better deal. I emailed the scheduler to say I was afraid it would look too suspicious if I called again so soon and asked if she wanted me to cancel. I never got an answer and checked again on the due date to see what I should do. Still no reply, but the job was gone from my log. I didn't mind but felt some sort of reply would have been nice.
I do this on my own whenever our contract is up. Did one last week and it was so wonderful as it's a routine type of thing. The value of my package was stressed and I wound up getting free movie channels for one year. YAAAASSSSS!
In my history Verizon will pretty much match the best offer out there....just saying.....
I tried this on my local cable co. that I only have internet with and they laughed at me. They know that I can't get unlimited and this speed tier from anyone else.

Boo.
Me too! Sounds like you did a great job with your objection.
Luckily, I was offered a downgrade first. If the agent had offered the $35 off a month that I ended up with, I would have had a hard time objecting to what amounts to saving half of my monthly bill.
I am located between two major cities and I have a high powered antenna that reaches 70 miles, so I get well over 65 channels for free. We also have Netflix for $8/month, so we get our movies and reruns. It works for us.
Saw an excellent shop today. The job is make 10 calls for $70.00.
That is great, and all I have to do is be a home owner and make the call to a realtor about listing the home I live in.
So I did this shop and made $70.00 in about 30 minutes. That is the best shop I have had in some time.
Thank you annd have an excellent day.

My name is Bruce M. and I am a retired business man, living in the tri-state area, where the Colorado River meanders through the mohave desert. This is where California, Arizona and Nevada all meet.
It is very hot there in the summer, but the rest of the year it is great weather.

Everyone who does not know the area, thinks we live in a giant city, when in reality it is only about 30,000
people in the 400 sq. milres, in 3 states. We also have a time difference everytime we cross the river, either way.

Hello to all, and have a great day, EVERYDAY!.

I read the shop details and your leaving out quite a bit of the shop details. The guidelines say to be avialable for the next two days as you are filling out web forms and waiting for 10 calls to be returned to you. Then there is a report for each call. This is basically a reverse phone call shop for $7 each and keeps you needing to be capable of answering the phone and interacting for two days.

This sounds like a scheduler that created a new account here. "ONE POST MEMBER"

Be honest if your trying to fill the shop. If it was the most simple 10 outgoing shop calls with reports that could be done in 5 minutes, you cant do that in 30 minutes.
