returning an item purchased during a shop

If the shop instructions tell you not to return an item but say, a month or so later, you return the item anyway, will the client find out?

Returns are easily tracked, unless you're planning to return without your receipt.... You'll risk your relationship with the MSC if the client finds out and then informs the MSC.

So that's up to you.

I've had shops that say no returns at all because the reimbursement for that item is the pay for the shop so if you get paid from the MSC and return the item, you are being double paid. I've had shops that say it is okay to return the item at a later date but not during the shop itself. When in doubt, ask your scheduler ahead of time and get it in writing.
Morally wrong... Whether you want to risk never shopping for that MSC if they found out is up to you.

ebit123, returning without permission is really risky. You are risking not getting to shop that client again and you are also risking not getting to shop for the mystery shopping company again. Additionally, you are risking that the word will get out in the mystery shopping world and it might affect your work with other companies.

If you accepted a shop with prohibition of returning a purchase, that was part and parcel of the contract agreed to by you. I would be more concerned with violating the terms of my contract than wondering if violating the terms would be discovered.

But, to answer your question - yes. The MSC has sold the client on the value of mystery shopping and the integrity of its shoppers. The client can absolutely track purchases and returns.
Funny the answers given here.. I brought this up about a LEGO shop and many people were in agreement that it was OK. Glad to see the majority agree it is not right and that there is a good chance the client/MSC will catch on.

I think the responses to the OP's question differ from the responses to questions about returning merchandise from a LEGO shop because the circumstances are different. The OP
told us that the shop instructions specifically say NOT to return the item purchased. He wanted to know if he could possibly be caught if he ignored the instructions and returned the item anyway. I could be mistaken, but I do not believe the LEGO instructions prohibit returns.
I have always seen the shop state if you can or cannot return the item. I did have to exchange a item once and was incredibly nervous. The item broke and they did a exchange. The way the transaction was handled was return and rebuy with the credit. I was fully prepared to discuss with the MSC if any issues came up with it and knew it was risky as it is. However since I was purely exchanging...I figured I was safe. I would never return unless it said you could.

I wouldn't risk a return if it specifically states not to return, E-Bay and Craigslist are your friend!
