video surrveilance equipment

Hello,

I was wanting to do some dentist's shop near me, but I do not have any video surveillance equipment. Does anyone have any recommendations for what is required and a reasonable expense ? Many thanks !!

If you search the site using "video" and all dates there should be some more in depth information. The standard equipment is the PV-500 with button camera and runs $500 to $800. If you have never completed a video shop it is a large investment and dental/medical is not always the easiest. A couple of companies will loan cameras and even shirts so you can try it out first. You will receive a reduced fee to cover the cost of shipping.

If this is your first video shop, see if the MSC will loan you the equipment. A PV 500 with button camera, extended life battery, and accessories is going to set you back $600-800 depending on where you get it. It's better to try 5-10 shops with equipment loaned by MSCs to see if you like doing video shops before jumping in and making the investment.

I tried searching but did not come up with anything. I tried "video surveillance" lol so I shall try again. Sounds like it is quite expensive to get started but perhaps renting will be an option. I really wanted to get some more input on my dental situation vs. my current dentist so maybe it will be worth the effort. Thanks for responding !!
I will ask them about loaning equipment. This is a very rural area and it seems they are having trouble filling these shops so maybe that will be an option....

When I saw video surveillance my expectation was a question regarding clients using their surveillance equipment to verify shopper reportssmiling smiley

smiley,
Just search "video" for "last year" and be sure to read the video section near the top of the New Mystery Shoppers' area.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Business Observations is currently selling the PVC 500 LITE for around 300.

MCP use to sell the PVC 500. They stopped at one point. Not sure if they started again??
jackaroe,
You may want to confirm that the price you quoted includes both an extended battery and the upgraded version of the camera. As I recall, there is a version of the PV-500 that ships with a camera that does not meet the current quality standards of many video MSCs. For details, you may want to consult recent threads over at VSN (http://www.videoshoppingnetwork.org/).

If you do not find a definative answer there, you may want to reach out to Leslie or Kathryn at Clear Evaluations. They usually have the most up to date info on equipment and specs. The price you are quoting may not get you what you need. Please let us know what you discover.

I am not currently in the market to purchase a new camera.
Just noting business observations has sent an email notice twice in last two weeks.
Who is looking to buy needs to do there own investigation.

Many msc say they won't accept video from a pvc500 lite but on the vsn board many shoppers have said they used it and the video was accepted.
jackaroe,
It's not the recorder unit that is in question. The issue is that it can be purchased with either a standard cam or the upgraded cam. Only the upgraded cam produces the required resolution.

Also, there have been many "new improved" models named PV-500 lite. Many of the models were discontinued when they began to show many failures. This is why I urge anyone in the market to consult the folks at CE about the current model before spending that much money.

Thanks for all the information lots of things I can follow-up with on here. I noticed Ebay has a couple of the PV-500 Lite-3 models for as low as $350.00. The PV 500 EVO 2 models seem to be priced considerably higher, so perhaps there is some known variability in quality between the different models as walesman suggested. I will continue to research !!
I have the EVO 2 and love it. It has a touch screen so you need to be sure and hit the "lock" button when you start recording. I've found it to be very reliable.

I agree with wales - these people can steer you in the way of discounts that you may otherwise not get. Take it from someone who recently bought the PV 500 EVO2 and LOVES IT!
