Right below your post is a link to "More About Video Shopping." That is a good place to start.

Don't be in a rush to purchase your equipment. Video shopping is an entirely different beast than standard shopping. Fortunately, some of the MSC's will rent/loan equipment so you can perform the shop and see if you like it. I would strongly recommend 5-10 shops of various kinds before you make the purchase decision.

As far as what to purchase, the standard for video shopping is the PV-500 series of digital video recorder. A complete set-up with extended battery, camera, etc. will run between $500 and $800, depending where you buy the equipment.

The biggest thing to remember about video is that, even though you are not seen, you will be heard.

Have PV-500 & willing to travel.

James is right, a PV-500 with extended life battery is the way to go. I bought mine used but if you go to some of the video shopping companies like Clear Evaluations or Melinda Brody and ask them where to buy the gear they can set you straight.
The extended life battery is a must. I can't tell you the number of times it has saved me. With experience, you pretty much know how long a shop will take; i.e. a new home will take 1-1.5 hours, a car about an hour, senior living around 1.5 hours, etc. I had two new home video shops earlier this week. One ran two hours. The second ran 2.5...without the extended life battery I would have been up the creek. The standard battery has a life of about 3 hours; the extended life is rated for 7 hours.

And, remember that you may be doing more than one long video shop in a day. The rig will not charge from your car's cigarette lighter (without installing an expensive inverter), so the extended battery is a must.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
