I swear I was in a Publix commercial today during a shop

I went to do a heavily bonused Publix shop today with my kids. I did all of the departments and then went looking for assistance in one of the aisles. I came across the Store Manager. I asked the questions and he brought me over to the item I couldn't find in the store. As I was thanking him for his help, he pulled out a #sprinklejoy gift card for me. He thanked me for being a customer and told me to enjoy my day. I stood there, speechless and honestly got emotional. I seriously felt like I was in one of their commercials. I am such a dork.

That's great! I get a great feeling when I can do a revealed shop that goes well and I have to give them a reward. I want to cry lol!

Motivation increases when we assume large responsibilities with a short deadline.
By approaching the store manager, you outed yourself as he gets the reports every month and knows all the questions. He gave you a gift card after he knew you were the shopper as soon as you asked him one of the special questions. This is almost a borderline bribe to get a good score.

When I do a Publix shop, I avoid management as much as possible and never ask a question in front of one. If the manager is at the customer service desk, I will come back to that area when only green apron employees are around. This makes it a proper shop. Asking the manager defeats the shops intent.
Scanman1, the guidelines say that you MUST do the Customer Service scenario first before any of the other departments so by you doing it out of order, you are not following the guidelines.

If the guidelines don't specifically prohibit including a member of management in the evaluations, she conducted the shop correctly.

I did go to customer service first =) The Store Manager wasn't wearing his nametag and there wasn't another "green apron person on the floor" He introduced himself as the store manager after giving me the gift card.
There are many times when I have to speak with the manager since s/he's the only one around. This happens often here. Staff shortage etc.. I don't like speaking with the manager, but I have no choice at times.

This is with a regular grocery store where I live.

I have the latest version of the guidelines that were written. It is 13 pages long. On what page does it state to do the customer service counter before any other departments?

It does state to go to meat before seafood and to try not to be assisted by the same person for both. Other than that, there is no place on the shopping guidelines that states that you are to shop the store in the exact order as the shopping list.

I shop the store and make a circle on the outside edges in a clockwise motion like an average shopper would and do the departments in the order I roll into them except for the meat/seafood section where I may have to make a little loop to get to the meat department first.

The service desk and restrooms can be checked at any point in the shop.

The instructions do not say to avoid interacting with the store manager. I just choose not to out myself during my shop.
How cool..

i live in Co, that NEVER happens here.

C/S is so substandard here and has
not changed in 16 yrs of living
here.
Shoptilyoudrop, your Sprinkle Joy gift card is worth $5. I had the fun of giving some of them out this holiday season. Typically, I chose customers who shop with us regularly. It's not a huge amount, but is just our little way of saying thank you for being a loyal Publix customer.

Did the store manager know you were their MS? Maybe, but I honestly doubt it. The reports we receive at store level are very general. We don't know the exact time of day, just whether it was morning, afternoon, or evening. We don't see the names or descriptions of associates with whom you interacted, or even a dialog of your conversations with them. We just see whether we passed or failed on each point. (Did we attempt carryout? Did we greet you with a smile within 10 seconds of your coming within 10 feet of us? When you asked where a product was, did we escort you to it? Did we handle your return at the CS desk without asking for a receipt? You get the picture...) We get pass or fail for each point. No comments at all.

Now the folks at corporate may get more than that. But your identity is likely safe at the store. Enjoy your gift card, and thank you for choosing Publix! :-D
