airport shops

I have noticed many airport shops going on right now. Has anyone done any of them. In my area they are very low pay, but pay upt to $50 expenses. Sounds like they are really targeting the ticket takers wanting to know their every action.

Many of the airport shops are the food and drink places behind security. With the number of folks who normally travel for Thanksgiving and Christmas there is usually a glut of such offers at this time. I suspect there are also a lot that are flaked on at this time of year with flight delays getting you into the airport with just the nick of time to make the connecting flight.

When I have been flying at non-peak times I usually pick up a shop or two from my departing airport and one or two from my arrival airport because I can control my available time at both. If I have a layover of more than an hour, I will take a few at that intermediate location. I never plan it too closely because although my flight may normally arrive on the same concourse as my connecting flight departs, there is still a chance they will arrive and depart from different ends of the airport and I have no intention of missing a flight because I promised to shop for a cup of coffee.

I bought a refundable ticket one night and did two ice cream shops in my airport for a $50 bonus per store. I went in, got the ticket, told the girl that I might need to not fly due to an emergency, did the two stores, walked out with two bags of ice cream, and got the same (now confused) agent to refund my ticket.

Nice, very nice, Dee. I've done the refundable ticket thing also and it went pretty well. I haven't taken shops while actually flying though.

The ice cream place here has, on occasion, offered a $10 bonus, but hardly enough for the hassle of parking and a refundable ticket. But there is only one in the airport and coordinating with other shops to make it worthwhile has not been feasible here.

In my area there is an MSC that will arrange a gate pass and assign 10-20 airport shops at $10 a pop, plus reimbursement for small purchases and up to $10 food. They also pay for your parking. It's a nice way to bag a lot of small shop in one stop and come home with food and small toiletries for free. Take along some ziplock bags and small, leakproof food containers to bring home food. You need to take a roll-along suitcase to look the part, so you have a place to stash the loot.

Somewhere I have even seen a site with recipes for using leftovers from food shops.

I have been looking for airport shops for an upcoming trip, but my usual sources have dried up. Where do you find yours?

The problem I have with this is the ones I have seen only pay$5.oo fee and the $50 reiumbusement fee is okay, but if for some reason they rejected the shop, you are out of $50.

Depending on what it's for, I might be willing to take that risk. Who is it through?
