Mystery Shopping Discussion

Having a very UGH MSP week
and wishing schedulers/ etc. would be held to the same standards that we are. We are working on a time deadline, we are required to read and comprehend lots of text. Why isn't it both ways.
(I'm not mentioning MSP names so I don't bash anyone).

Problem 1:
Last week I email a scheduler to see if I can schedule a shop for the 21st. I have three emails I can forward to them clearly saying the 21st is the only day I could do the job. Never hear back from the scheduler until yesterday when she schedules it for me on the 23rd. I email the company explaining the situation that I can not do the shop that day and that I have emails clearly asking for the 21st. The remove the shop from the list... and ding my rating a point for not completing a scheduled shop. WTF?

Problem 2:
I do a new gas audit, never seen one of this type before. I notice there is no audit slip for the employee to sign, nor is there a purchase required, so I read and reread the directions. Sure enough, no purchase required, no audit slip to sign.
I input the results, and it says one receipt is required. Um, from what seeing as there was no purchase required and no audit slip. I email the company asking what the receipt is, explaining there is no slip, no purchase needed.
Her reply is to explain to my scheduler why the employee did not give me a receipt. Um, maybe because there was no purchase needed. I email again, her reply was that I needed to have them sign the provided audit slip. Um, there is no audit slip. Still waiting to hear back on that one.

Problem 3:
Complete a shop in July, it never shows it was paid on my shop log. Finally last week it shows it was paid... in August. I email the company saying I have never received a payment from this company ever. She says they just pay with Paypal to check my Paypal account. I really hate Paypal, but I did use one of my old accounts for this shop because I really wanted the shop. So I check said account, no deposit from this company ever. I email them again saying I checked the history and it was never paid. Her reply, sorry I can't help you.

Problem 4:
Another company that says I was paid in September, no payment received yet. Emailed last week, still no reply. But when this company wants me to do a shop for them, they email daily. Just when it's info I need, they can't seem to find the time to reply. (haha no it's not ath)

Sorry to rant all this, just have never had this much trouble with MSP's.

Definitely a WTF?? If you notified them promptly when they assigned it for the 23rd that you were able to do it on the 21st, there should be no ding. I would protest.

One of those where I would scan a piece of paper saying "NO AUDIT SLIP WAS PROVIDED OR MENTIONED IN THE INSTRUCTIONS. NO PURCHASE WAS REQUIRED" and upload that where they want the receipt uploaded.

"Please provide proof of payment including 1) the Paypal account to which this was paid and 2) the date of payment. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter."

"Please provide a copy of the cancelled check or information about the Paypal account to which this was paid with date of payment."

Payment is getting to be more and more of an issue. When they claim to have paid, lean on them for information about the payment. I eventually walked away from a small payment last year that the first check they could not provide a cancelled check for and after 4 more months supposedly reissued a check--which I never got either. I will not work for them further.

It's time-consuming and frustrating taking care of mistakes and oversights. I've done my share of ranting. If you care about your business, you have little choice but to set things right. I would pursue all of the above, Lisa. Unfair dings, missing payments - definitely. Problem 2 regarding the missing 'non-receipt' has also happened to me. I'm seeing more shops now that have no proof of visit or purchase requirement. Not a bad thing. But sometimes the report still expects an upload. I have uploaded a handwritten note "No photo required" or "No business card required" or "No receipt because there was no purchase required".

I wish standards and expectations were the same. Or, how about ratings for schedulers/editors/payroll/MSP?

Re: Having a very UGH MSP week
Lisa, definitely a bad week. I feel for you. I agree with Flash and Mert that you need to pursue these issues.

I just did a shop last week where the employee did not show up to open the store. I did the shop, took a photo, and reported it the way it was. I got an email back offering me double to go back. I held my ground and said it was a store/employee issue, and I had done my part, had built a route, and could not go back unless they paid me for this shop and paid me double to go back. They are paying me for the shop, but, strictly offered straight pay for the reshop, yet it was bonused to begin with. I said I could not do it as financially I would lose money to complete it that way. They promptly reposted with a larger bonus. No, I am not doing that shop a second time. :-)

While the MSP is paid to report on the service and such, one would think that they too could report that on the specified date, at the specified time, when the store was supposed to be open, it was not. Are they afraid of their client or did they 'sell' the client on 'fully and successfully completed shops only'?

Who knows? :-) They did tell the client about it...

Gee, do you think they gave the client 'free' information? I'm glad you are being paid.

Well, I got the first two taken care of.

Now, still waiting to hear from the last two.

Thanks for all the replies.

I guess 50% is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Nevertheless frustrating and a waste of your time go get companies to get it right.

Re: Having a very UGH MSP week
I wish ALL MS Companies could have the same procedures...would make our life much easier. Trying to track it all, is 5 jobs in one. I just finished a job, and didn't give the right senario, and they won't pay me. The one I gave worked, I de-activaded myself, put too much work into that one. I'm cutting way back, only working for my top 5 companies (I'm sure of them), like "Quest for Best", who upon there own integrity paid me for a job when the shop was closed, and I didn't expect it. Kudo's to Nancy of "Quest for Best".

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and happy shopping.

No news is good news....
