Saying Goodbye to Sonic

Where I live, the carhops at Sonic are not allowed to receive tips. I used to shop many of the Sonics in my area and it always cost more to purchase the meal than the reimbursement allowed. It's actually a win-win for me as I just report it on my taxes and it counts as a deduction (along with the mileage).

So *you're* the one that keeps the prices for the Sonics there so low I never take them when I visit my brother!

Hmm ... I just unwrap the food item, place it on my lap (either on the wrapper or bag,) check to make sure no employees are nearby or looking through the building window, and then snap a quick pic or two, keeping the camera below the level of the dash. It's never been a big deal (well, okay, it was at first.)
We just got a new Sonic in town. I was told by the manager of a McD that the McD across the street from the new Sonic is really suffering so they are offering lots of two-for-one and other sales at the McD.

Sonic shops are snapped up quickly around here. They are never bonused.

I did only one Sonic. Once I could see that all that was reimbursed enough to cover the hot dog, it wasn't worth it.
I completely agree! I fell as if half the shops aren't even worth it unless they're extremely close..
I went to Sonic twice in the past couple of years. Both times the food was either overcooked or undercooked and tasted terrible. The only thing they are good for is milkshakes. Of course that could be our local Sonic.
LOL Bgriffin! Only if your brother lives in South Mississippi as that's where I am. :p

They are plentiful around here but I haven't done one in a while. I just don't like eating in my car all that much any more. I may pick them up in the summer,,,,You don't mkae much but if you just want a free meal then it's not bad..
In the economy today I don't believe this is true anymore, I see a lot of adults working in fast food today and in other jobs that were once considered jobs for teenagers, I don't believe there is a difference anymore at least in my area.
I disagree....I do NOT do shops for just the reimbursement. I know its a free meal which is pay in itself but I was most likely not going to any food establishment otherwise. I am only going there for the shop. I keep telling schedulers that I want FEES to do these. Yes some food shops do and I can name a couple that only reimburse and with that, they dont even reimburse the entire meal and I HATE it. You want me to order a burger, fries then reimburse me the entire cost of the burger and fries....then I have to go home and I am not making a dime and the report is a pita. NO thanks. Keep your reimbursement as I shop for the money not for the free meal. Off my soap box now.
I only do the Sonics if they have a good bonus. It is impossible to stay under the reimbursement unless you get the hot dog. I am like the original poster I always tip, my daughter worked at a Sonic when she was in high school, many years ago, and I know they need those tips!
Minimum wage here in Oregon is $9.25 an hour, and theres no tipping allowed at the Sonics here.
