How does one get a job doing this? What are the good companies to work for and what is the pay for something like this?

Mystery shopping is not a job in the traditional sense of the word. You will be an independent contractor getting paid a flat fee or a combination of fee plus reimbursement for required purchases. The pay will vary as will the terms with some companies paying their vendors (us) a couple of times a month while others pay at 30, 60 or even 90 days.

In order to determine which companies you may like to work with it is best to read threads to see what others are reporting then try some shops. A company I hate might be one you really like.

Your post generated a link, "More about Gas Station Mystery Shopping." It should lead you to quite a few threads. From those you should be able to glean which companies perform these types of shops.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Well back in the day Corporate Research International was THE PLACE for good paying gas station mystery shops at the end of the month. Today.....not so much.

Ritter & Associates and Maritz seem to have the majority of those now with MarketForce also having a few. All of the big national petroleum companies do have mystery shop programs and some like to split their business among multiple MSC companies.

For some, it is a program that a franchised gas station owner chooses to participate in if they want help financing new pumps. They agree to be inspected, follow certain requirements, etc. and they can get help paying for new equipment.
