Is this citation excessive? Advice please.

I had some issues with a shop - it involved creating a dummy account (with my real information) on the client site. I was ambivalent because I thought I could use a pseudonym (I use my former married name)

Anyway, I had trouble creating and accessing the account and emailed the scheduler. She gave me an extension. I emailed again because I still could not access the account- maybe it was because I was using a tablet? Maybe I didn't really understand the instructions or whatever. I emailed the scheduler again. No response.

However, instead of actually responding to me she gave me a citation. I can understand, I guess... She gave me an extension and I still did not complete the assignment. Here's the deal, though - she gave me a ZERO score WITH A WEIGHT OF TWENTY. This brought down my score from a perfect 10 to 4! The company doesn't have lots of work in my area, but I enjoy the work when they do have it. I get about 2 shops a month from this company so it will take a full year to even get up to a 7 or 8. But I can't get any work from them because my rating is so low.

Can I do anything? Can I appeal the citation? The company has basically lost a valued shopper because of one scheduler taking it to the extreme! If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it.

I doubt you can appeal the decision but it never hurts to try smiling smiley

You are not an employee, so there are things you may not be entitled to, such as a little respect, and the decency of the scheduler to respond to YOU in a timely manner (just as she expects you to respond to HER in the same way).
I can handle a citation because I had A 10 rating - but not a citation with a weight of 20!
I counts as a zero for 20 shops - instead of a zero or 1 for one shop. So my average plummeted
I'd like to know which MSC this is and I hate that this happened to you.

Yeah, that's way too harsh. Contact one of the other schedulers. I've had luck with that in the past.
Incredibly harsh. I understand giving you a 0 rating for the shop, as it couldn't be completed, but x20 is stupid.

That is nuts! So you must have had a 10 rating over the span of more than a dozen previous shops then.
Exactly! I had more than 15 previous shops with no score lower than 9. Always on time. And I fit in with the demographics of one of their clients - which I think there are not a lot of shoppers in my area who do.

I spoke with another scheduler who could not help.

I have a 1 with a weight of 1 for them too. Only the scheduler who issued it can remove it. I'd be very unhappy with a weight of 20 x for one shop. It's not as though you disappeared, based on what you have told us here.
And I have 700 shops with them since then, so hopefully, you can dig your way out of it.
Sorry. That totally sucks.
Years ago, I got a citation that said 0 with a weight of 0. My score never changed and there were no negative comments. To this day, I still don't know what it means. And I have been working for them for years with scores of 9's and 10's.
The problem is going to be getting assigned any shops at all so that I can dig myself out with my current rating of 4!

I don't think I desrved a citation at all because I could not access the clients website. However, I had been ambivalent about doing the shop so I wasn't aggressively pursuing it. However, a normal citation would have been acceptable.

Does anyone know how to contact Bare - and who to talk to? Thank you all for the advice.

Frankly, if it happened like you said that it did I probably wouldn't shop with them anymore. I can understand a zero but not the other stuff.

That's excessive!

You may get results if you go to the main website and find a contact person there, over the scheduler's head who can override the scheduler (you may also irritate some people but what do you have to lose).

It's [www.bareinternational.com] (It's not the www.baidata site that we use for assignments and reports). I noticed they have a chat button there, and you may be able to dig and find some higher management contact info. There is a main number listed: (800) 296-6699.

Bare also has it's own forum. Maybe someone there could direct you to the right person to fix this.

Good Luck

Where are we going... and why are we in a hand basket?
I can't believe a scheduler at Bare can do that. I like that MSC. I definitely would be upset. The punishment does not fit the crime, if you even did anything wrong. I really hope you can straighten this out. That is so unfair and excessive. Good luck!
Thank you all!! I have really enjoyed every other shop with them so I am not ready to write the company off just yet due to the acts of one scheduler. I will check their forum as well as the main website. I will let you know how it turns out.
I know you have an issue with the scheduler, and we do not know what was in the emails (tone, language, etc,,,) but it is possible that the scheduler meant to give it a weight of 2, due to the extension, or meant to do something else. Perhaps you can reach out to that scheduler, and politely request an explanation of the 20? I have been entering things on my computer and accidentally put something totally different than I intended. On the glass half full side of things, it may be a mistake that can be fixed by the original scheduler if you reach out.
They have representatives at Shopper Fest (at least they did last year). I'm planning on attending again this year. I am going to ask about this. It doesn't seem right. I do a fair amount of work for them and I would not be happy if this happened to me.
I tried the original scheduler several times and got no response. I saw the job posted again and I offered to do it without pay just to get rid of the citation but got no response.
Don't bother with that scheduler. Go above. She has an ax to grind and really should not be a scheduler. I would never do any shop for Bare unless things are straightened out. Your livelihood does not depend on that scheduler. There are a thousand and one MSCs but I wish you could straighten it out with Bare. They are actually very good with shoppers based on my experience.
I am surprised this happened at BARE. Maybe it is just an error. I would try to contact the scheduler again. Can you try calling them?
I found the organizational structure of BARE online. It lists the Operations and Hospitality Operations Managers with emails. Not sure if this is too high up yet, because I don't know who directly manages the schedulers, but maybe digging around here would get you somewhere: [www.theofficialboard.com]

I'd say give JRoby's post another look. Maybe the weight of 20 was meant to be 2. Even if it wasn't, you'd be giving the scheduler an "out" by suggesting it was a typo. That way, if the scheduler overreacted and realizes it now, s/he can use the "typo" as an excuse and save face.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
I have tried several times with the scheduler and used every angle I could come up with. She does not respond. Thank you all!
@LJ: @AlexG posted something recently, on another thread. Although he did not name the MSC, they too used the SASSIE platform and his experience sounds identical: [www.mysteryshopforum.com] sad smiley
