Does this seem reasonable?

I did a gas station assessment, and in taking the bathroom photo I captured as many of the elements as I thought I could. It was a unisex restroom with two stalls. Both stalls had doors that were closed. There was a sink and mirror, and no urinal. The room was just big enough to allow me to stand in a corner of the doorway and take a photo. I was able to capture a corner of the sink, and the two stall doors, both of which were closed, but one only part of the way. The toilets were hidden behind the walls of the stalls.

I could not capture an image of a toilet because by doing so I would not have captured any other elements, since the toilets are behind the stall walls.

The MSC wants me to return to the location and take one picture of the toilet. It is a 200 mile round trip for me. I have to take the picutre before 24 horus is up--so I have to take it today.

200 miles to take a picture of the toilet. Is this really mystery shopping?

Reasonable or not, if that is what they want, I don't see much of a way around it. Either return to take the picture or forfeit the whole shop. This is the reason to remember to take many more than the "required" photos. It is much better to take a few minutes and take a few extra pictures ( one each of both toilets, one of the sink, one of the trash can, etc) before leaving the restroom. That way if the want a picture of something you did not include in your report you do not have to make a return trip.
Of course, you could try pleading you case with the MSP and see if they will let it go this time. Maybe personal communication would help. Since I don't know what MSP, it's hard to say. Lots of luck.
Personally I would lose the shop before driving 200 miles round trip. I will say that you should have taken more than 1 photo. When I do gas station audits I almost always take at least 2 photos, 1 of the toilet and 1 of the sink area. In the type you describe I would have taken a full photo of each stall and tried to get the sink and urinal in 1.

Then I should have taken a picture of each toilet. I didn't think about it. I took 3 photos of the restroom but didn't change my position. After thinking about it, I think the reason I didn't take pictures of the toilets was because last week I took pictures of a restroom where all of the stall doors (6) were closed. My picture only showed the sink, mirror, and a row of stalls with closed doors. That one was accepted after I explained why I didn't take a picture of a toilet.

I'll take more pictures from now on for insurance.

Guess I'll drive 202 miles round-trip to use the restroom today.
We've all made similar mistakes.

I just drove 100 round trip to get a pic I missed. Just think of it as a learning experience. I"m pretty sure I'll never forget that one again.

Not knowing what your instructions say it is hard to answer your question.

You could email the scheduler and explain. Honestly, depending on the fee and my schedule, I may just forfeit the shop. My schedule is usually so tight that I couldn't work in a 200 mile drive with a 24 hour turn around. Unless I did a lot of work for the company in question, I would forfeit. But I may try to do it if I really wanted to protect my relationship with the company.
I am pretty sure I know the shop and all they care about is the toilet. Ideally, they prefer if you can get everything in one shot. If that is not possible, a picture of the toilet is sufficient. It's a hard lesson and we have all had them.
Shannon, The first thing I would do is call the scheduler and state your case. Best case scenario is they OK it. If you choose to make the 200 mile trek is it possible to pick up other shops on the way? That may ease the pain.

It doesn't do you any good but I think most of us empathize with you as we have made the same mistake. I know I have.

A scheduler told me the most important fixture is the urinal or toilet and must be in the picture. I had a similar experience where there was only a toilet and a doot that kept shutting. Try jamming it open with a pen or coin or rolled up paper towel or moving a trash can in front of it.

I think we all have learned to take multiple pictures, just in case.

Let us know how you make out.

Good luck.
I'm a picture nut. smiling smiley I take a picture of just about everything and multiple angles/shots. It's a good thing I do that, because often-times, they ask if I have anymore pics? I just send all of them (in an email) usually...never hear a peep out of them again tongue sticking out smiley

I still take too many pictures of the pizza shop but I remember them asking for more pics back when you had to take multiple crust flips, side shots, top shots but recently they don't ask me for more.... You only have to take two top 90 degree angle pictures, plus the receipts on the box. And I only take them when they have a good bonus on them now...
I've had the same thing happen, and they wound up accepting the shop without going back to get a photo of the toilet. Just explain the long distance, and that the instructions don't say to just take a photo of the toilet if you can't get the toilet and sink both in the shot. They should specify that they want the toilet if you can't get it all.
If the guidelines specified they needed a photo of the toilet, I would forfeit the fee, ask the scheduler to use the shop and pay my fee to a local shopper to simply take the picture. It would cost far more to drive 200 miles to take a photo.
if there is only a spot to upload one photo, you can easily combine
two photos into one using something as simple and free as Paint
which is on every windows computer.
