Your comments are Easy to say. Not easy to do. I have been carpet-bombing for weeks. You are fortunate that I am spreading the word now to fellow shoppers. Be grateful and don't give such an easy reply from your distant armchair. The company selling this shop was reputable - just they have made a huge faux pas this time and I am paying the heavy price. Keep the messaging going so other shoppers resist the temptation to apply for this shop. I will work out the issue. It's a nuisance and totally unnecessary if the company had planned the return in a more creditable way.

The fact is anytime your credit is run to extend any type of credit to you...it hurts your credit rating...for that purpose alone..I will not so any shops that will affect my credit rating even if they go perfectly and everything is paid and reimbursed.

I find that posts like this one are less than helpful and discourage people from posting. I wish I knew everything. Must be nice.

FWIW my credit score is 830 this month.

I appreciate OP making this post. I hope that it warned more than a few people. Feel free to bash me. I could care less.

I avoid any shops that run a hard hit on my credit. There is just not enough pay for them to have that information.

I did this shop which would have been fairly easy if it didn't take 45 minutes to return the phone. I don't deal with Best Buy since I had to pull teeth to receive a refund. I'm sure they had something to do with not allowing you out of the contract.
I've had an unpleasant experience with Best Buy in the past and now tend to avoid them like a plague except for the days I can get walk-in points to walk into a Best Buy store on Shopkick.....at least they are good for something this way. I don't blame anyone else for being wary of them, not at all.

I couldn't get my SK points until I reported them to BBB.....I specifically asked if they knew how to do it...they said yes...took my number....and then no points....and I had bought a laptop....many people have had the problem with Best Buy not crediting SK points...and SK is always unethical and unprofessional about it..essentially they just tell you to go away.

If you're a RewardZone member, that can interfere with getting the kicks from Shopkick. The lookup process for both RewardZone and Shopkick is the same, and the associate has to go through it twice because they can't select both options at once. I catch a lot of the associates who aren't familiar with the Shopkick program skipping it. I just refuse to pay until they add my Shopkick information. If they don't know how to do it, tell them it's exactly like looking up a RewardZone account, but they need to press 'S' to select Shopkick.

For what it's worth to those who use Shopkick, their program seems to have changed a bit. They've just doubled the number of participating locations in my area, and I'm finding that I'm able to pick up kicks from the parking lot at most locations now. I actually wasn't able to get them inside a Walmart yesterday because I was pinging off a tower about 3 miles away, but I opened the app in my car and was credited. Not going to lie, it was kind of nice to be able to drive through the Costco parking lot and get the bonus today without having to deal with the crowds. grinning smiley
I am rather confused because Shopkick does not use GPS, WiFi or cell phone signals, it determines your presence inside a store by having the phone listen for "a highly accurate inaudible audio signal that is unique to each store that can be detected by smartphone". You can also get "kicks" for making purchases after you have been detected in the store. Also confusing is that I can't find any mention of Costco or Walmart on the Shopkick website, or in the Wikipedia article about Shopkick. there are items sold at Costco and Walmart, the barcodes of which you can scan for kicks, but I don't think that you can get kicks for just going inside a Costco or a Walmart. Maybe I am missing out on something?

Yes, you can get kicks just for walking inside a Walmart. I get them often. Have not tried Costco yet because I'm not near one.
Ah, Shopkick, I love it. I have gotten a kick for just driving near a Macy's doorway. Since I don't have a lot of money I didn't think about collecting points for purchases b/c I seldom buy anything. I'm not sure how it works.

I just received a bill for $728.56 and I have no idea which scheduler to contact. Do you have a name and number? Thanks!

I usually get at least $500-750 value (sometimes more) out of each hard pull on my credit, but I am a miles junkie. When I saw this shop all I could see was losing at least $450 worth of value for a hard pull on my credit (and a lot of hassle.)

That's interesting to me. My score is 758. How do you get value from hard pulls?
I got in touch with the scheduler as well as the cell phone provider and the balance should be 0.00 within the next couple of days.
Walmart is one of the four chains that was originally enabled for Shopkick in my area. Costco is a recent addition, as are Sam's Club and two grocery chains.

They posted about walk-in kicks at Costco on Facebook last week: [www.facebook.com]

There's also an earlier post that mentions kicks at Walmart: [www.facebook.com]

If your app doesn't show those stores in the list, there probably aren't any participating locations near you right now.

I do not take any shop that requires access to my credit report. I don't like giving out my phone number or email for follow up shops.

By applying for rewards credit cards.
Each credit application is a hard pull. Each card I apply for gives me at least $450 in value in miles, points, or cash back after I meet the purchase requirements. Like 50,000 airline miles after $3,000 spend in 3 months. I just used 40,000 of those miles for tickets to Europe over xmas. The RT tickets were priced at $1036 each, so pretty good for one credit pull.
But there are cash back offers as well. It all depends on your goals. We love to travel and then fund the food and activities with our MS money!
If you return the phone within two days as required, they credit your account. The points you earned on your credit card get reversed. You are getting a hard credit hit for nothing other than the shop fee (which I saw earlier today is now up to $100 and still very few takers, in some states, none at all).

Correct. I am not doing the shop because I get much more value out of a credit pull (by using that pull for other things) than the amount of this shop fee.
Got it. Interesting perspective and strategy!

They just added a $50 bonus to the ones in my area this week. Even at $100 there are tons sitting on the board. When they first came out I offered to do one for $200 and they said no. I wonder if that's even a fair fee to ask considering the risk.
I did this shop awhile ago for $100. I'm already with Sprint (with whom I've had much better service than At&T+Verizon), and am due for an upgrade. It was easy, took about 25 minutes to buy and 15 to return the next day. Not a long report. I never noticed any affect on my credit score.

The associate never even MENTIONED a credit check. Maybe they don't check existing Sprint customers? I have been with them for about 4 years and always pay my bill on time smiling smiley Don't dismiss this shop out of hand; I'd do it again if I could!

Kona Kathie
If you are already a Sprint customer in good standing they don't need to run a new credit check. Some shops do not permit existing customers to do theM became the discussion of service plans etc.is different.

I have received emails for similar shops many times. I do not like purchase and returns shops to begin with. The only time I allow my credit card score to be pulled, is with a good credit card opening, which I can use. I am so sorry that you had all these problems. What I am interested to know, is if you called your scheduler, and what the reply was. From my understanding, you are to return the phone the same day and get a refund.
I had a pretty good credit score before, but never in the 800s. Now it is, and why? Because I opened a Bankamerica credit card on a shop, a Wells Fargo card to get thecash back, and Marriott and Hilton rewards cards. Apparently, the more unused credit you have, the higher your score. It's a little backwards.
the more credit cards you have the more credit card offers you will get too.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
I was once told I had "too much available credit". We can't win. sad smiley

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
If she carries a balance, couldn't that negatively impact her credit score?
