Age discrimination??

A lot of you are missing the point. (And I might add a few of you are just being downright rude about it). The OP clearly stated he/she was referring to an audit, not a mystery shop where demographics could come into play. Why can a 67-year old not check a few shelves, but a 65-year old can? There should be no age requirement or cut-off for such a job. my guess is that the client doesn't even know about the restriction; I would definitely appeal to the MS company and get a bona fide reason! While it may or may not be illegal, it is ethically wrong to discriminate arbitrarily.

I suspect that statistical analysis comes into play in determining the age cutoff. While I know 80-year-olds who are completely ambulatory and 50-year-olds who need canes to get around, those are the exceptions to the rule. My guess is the client has looked at the work involved and, based on [most likely] insurance company statistics, has determined the maximum age that they want people doing this job.

You can always ask the MSC about an exemption.

Slightly off-topic but germane to the discussion of exemptions...a few years ago I was asked to shop a particular dealer of a German high performance sports car. I reminded the scheduler that I didn't have a car that qualified. I was asked if I could come up with a convincing "backstory" to explain my vehicle. I did, and successfully completed the video shop. The client was so impressed with the ease of my telling the backstory, that I was able to do more shops for them for the rest of the year. You lose nothing by asking.

I did write to the scheduler and pointed out the age requirement and was assigned the audits. The question remains why the upper age limit is even there on these completely revealed audits. They're asking you to report the contents of 4-5 rows of products and take a couple of pictures. Did my ability to do that stop when I turned 67?

des1948 - didn't you get the email? and don't you know? At 12:01 AM on the date of your 67th birthday, yourbrain initiates a message to all body types, with the exception of the heart, to cease functioning. The brain tells the body parts that that it too will go into sleep mode within 7 days, actually giving you a 7 day grace period. The brain will reawaken at 75 and do a checkpoint against all working body parts. You will have 7 days to spruce up before your body will undergo testing to see if you now can be used again. If you can't, then the brain evaluates the body to determine what disability level you qualify for and if it should go into idiot mode.

I have a creative mind. That's part of why I am a good shopper. smiling smiley

I also would like to get a certain restaurant shop that has an age restriction. Funny thing is three years ago the age restriction was less and one year under my age. Now they have raised the age restriction but it is still one year under my age. I am a young looking person and could easily pass for one year under my age but when I apply, system says I do not meet criteria.
my husband is 68 and has had this problem. generally, and depending on the type of shop, if we talk with the scheduler, they will make an exception.

I, too, don't have a car that qualifies for these shops. Would you care to share your backstory?
I went today to do a bank shop for a company that I do a bunch of them for and it is in an area which is predominately one racial group.
There have been 2 murders in that area recently.
There were 2 patrol cars and one riot wagon in the area. I was harassed by a few of these lovely souls and I determined the proper conduct for me at this time was to "Exit stage left" as one of the cartoon characters from my youth would speak.
I will let the client know Monday what happened.
There are areas in Houston that a shopper could be physically hurt badly to go into if you aren't the right color.
Also, on craigslist some of the women that do body rubs state in their ads that they don't perform their services for "black men".
I really doubt there will be any legal recourse from the "black men" toward the body rubbers for refussal of services.
Existing law (if there is one here) is challenged all the time and sometimes changes as a result of litigation.
The short form generic backstory I used was that my non-existent nephew is in college and his current car is nickel and diming him to death. I'm giving him the car I'm driving that belonged to my parents. I tweak the story to fit the situation, always naming a local college, etc.

ces1948 back to your original point, no it doesn't make sense to me either that in that kind of a situation they would have an age limit.
