Mellow Mushroom

I've never been there and am doing a shop there for the first time. Any suggestions? Is it possible to stay within the $50 reimbursement?

Also, I'm supposed to take OVERHEAD photos of each item, including drink. How do I do this without screaming "mystery shopper?" I'm used to taking photos of food, but overhead photos in a dining room seems a little odd.

It is really easy to take pictures these days in restaurants. Everyone does it to track their diet, post to FaceBook, etc. there are many excuses for taking food pictures. You just have to careful taking pictures in the restrooms. That can get you in real trouble. Lol. And be careful not to get caught taking outside pictures of a building. That can get you outed also.

They are shopped?! Ive never seen them on my boards.. ughhhhh I must have missed a company lol 50$ should be fairly easy to stay under. I love this place and ive eaten there with someone for way under $50. I guess it depends on what you order. They have a menu online you can probably look at to see what you would be spending.

I'm supposed to order a medium pizza from their "Home Grown" menu which is $19.99, an specific alcoholic drink which is $9, a Coke product and another appetizer or entrée plus 15-20% tip.
You don't have to order the pizza from the Home Grown menu; you can order anything from that menu. The shrimp appetizer is about $9, then order another menu item. What will kill you is the $9 drink. We did it for about $53 including tip, but our second item was a large pizza; you could go with a medium. (Tip: the instructions say no modifications to the Home Grown menu. We modified our non- HG item, and were called on it. Editor said they would be clearing up those guidelines).

And I don't recall the instructions saying overhead shot. That would be weird for the drink, especially. Only my pizza was an overhead shot, and no one complained.

I stuffed a menu into my large purse to photograph at home. You will need 4 pics to get the whole thing, and THAT looks especially suspicious! (I know, I know, my solution was not perfect, people!)

Assuming your taxes are at the very worst is 10% and you're sticking with 15% tip:

$50/1.25 = $40 to spend.

$20 pizza
$7-9 mixed drink (looked in my past shops and all my drinks were $7 or less)
$2.50 non-alcoholic drink
$3.50-$7 appetizer (the buschetta was $5.75 the last time I went there)

Total: ~$40

So, yes. You can easily stay within budget.

Mellow Mushroom has multiple MSC's shopping them, so it depends on your area.

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!
For an overhead shot, I would get up, use the restroom, pretend like I was talking on my phone, walk over to my table , still standing and say, "Yes, Lisa. I ordered a delicious pizza! LOOK!" Snap**~~~ goes my camera and there you have your overhead shot smiling smiley
Well, I did it for $52, which included a tip. I loved their food. Their pizzas remind me of Dewey's, but this report was much easier.

I'm allergic to shrimp, and that was the only non-pizza item besides the buffalo chicken dip. My guidelines specifically state to take overhead shots. For the drink I submitted an overhead and a side view.

BTW, the South of the Border pizza on the Home Grown menu is yum!
I aborted the job offer when I saw that all of pizza's to choose from had Habanero peppers or were meatless. I wont write a shop report for pizza with narratives without meat and I cant take the heat of the peppers.
I ordered the shrimp appetizer, then my favorite pizza from the regular menu. Not much for the heat, either!

The South of the Border pizza I ordered had jalapenos on them, and my daughter picked them off. That was the only "heat" in the pizza. And that was the only pizza on the Home Grown menu that I would order. I don't like pineapple, mushrooms or tempeh (what is that?).
I take overhead pictures of restaurant food often for a dining blog I have. If you make a big play of pretending to be on the phone and then snapping a pic -- then you look suspicious. Just take the darn pic. Diners all around you are doing the same thing.
Mellow mushroom must be a regional place. I saw the title of this thread and thought of something completely different!

Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just forget to load the film.
Mmmm- I was just in Atlanta and had to get a pizza from this place! I've missed it for years. Somehow, most of the pizzas out here on the Left Coast just don't cut it with me. Happy shopping!

Apologies in advance for going off topic or "cracker dog" (for those in the know).

The title made me think of a certain song (and I am not a child of the '60's).
