I just got home from a delicious restaurant shop. Getting ready to write the report and popped into the forum for a second first.

That's the beauty of this business. Nobody ever tells you that you HAVE to work anytime ever. It's fantastic.

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
Sure I would if it fit into my preferences.

Happily shopping Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut
I did one today too! Most of the MSCs I'm signed up with though don't want me shopping today. Not sure why... I did some personal shopping after the MS and there were plenty of folks out, just like most Saturdays.

I took two assignments, which I booked weeks ago. The MSCs emailed personal requests for them, wanting them nailed down. Kind of like an employee being paid overtime to work on a holiday. Nice.
Sure, I did five shops today and it was great because there seemed to be very little traffic on the roads and the stores were quiet so there was no problem in finding assistance. And the gas stations are always open! I would definitely work on a holiday again.
I probably wouldn't want to work on Christmas Day or Thanksgiving Day. Otherwise, most holidays are just another day off of my "real job" when I actually have time for some mystery shopping if there's nothing else going on.

I have fond memories of an outrageously large last minute bonus one Thanksgiving. I left the family to entertain themselves after the usual overstuffed dinner, left the dishes in the sink and went. To my surprise and delight when I returned, family had even cleaned up the kitchen and started the coffee so I could go straight to my report.
I looked for shops that could be done today or yesterday since I was off but didn't find anything except McDs. Due to my diet, I will only do those shops when they get bonused so I don't get tempted too much. LOL
I did several shops on July 4th. Why not? If you choose not to, that is also fine. That is one of the benefits of being an independent contractor.

I've done gas station routes on holidays such as Memorial Day and Labor Day. I really didn't have a choice if I wanted to get all my shops for the month done on time. It actually worked out well since I had was able to go through major cities instead of going around them to avoid rush-hour traffic. I prefer to not work on holidays, but if I want to make a living at this, I have to take the good shops when they become available.
I picked up a drive through fast food shop where I had traveled for the holiday - family reunion. That way, the mileage is deductible. It took 4 minutes.
I took a bonused ($50) urgent last minute shop on the 4th. It got me moving to clean up the house and get organized for my bar-b-que before I did the shop. It was good motivation as I tend to procrasinate..especially with the cleaning the house part. Got the shop done and reported and still had time for last minute preparations. That was a nice unexpected $65 to add to my month.

No I haven't and most likely will not. On 4th of July I prefer to have a couple of beers or wine, swim in the pool and have family game night after dinner. Same thing on Thanksgiving and Christmas, without the swimming. But then I prefer not to work weekends either. To each his own.
For me it depends on which holiday and what's planned. Never on Christmas or Thanksgiving. Some years I take off for St Patrick's Day or Cinco de Mayo or Halloween, but not every year. I once took a shop on Easter Sunday since it would only take an hour for everything. For the major holidays I would never try to make a day of it and wouldn't have the time anyway. It has to be something generally close by with a good bonus and either a super easy report or one that can be done the following day.

I'll work any holiday as long as they pay me the big bucks. I will NOT perform a retail shop on Black Friday though. Well, maybe for $10,000 I would but nothing less.
Black Friday is not a Holiday. It might serve as a food example of Shopper's Hell, but it is not a Holiday. But, for $10,000 - maybe. Actually, am going to underbid you and offer to do it for $9,000

It usually is a holiday for me at my "day job"... we almost always get the day after Thanksgiving off as a holiday. I think that's why it's such a big shopping day: a lot of people have the day off.

Black Friday actually starts on Thanksgiving Day over the past few years so it is a holiday. Many people have that Friday off of work with pay. I'll take that pay any day rather than do a retail shop,
Since I work full time, I fit shops in whenever I could...as others have alluded to, I won't shop Thanksgiving or Christmas (Easter too), but have taken a shop on Memorial and Labor Day. This year I went to a wedding on the 4th of July so no shops....but I had 2 scheduled on the 3rd (which was our official "work holiday"winking smiley....one which I did but the other.....yep was closed because of said holiday.....

That is the "side effect" of working on a paid holiday. Some businesses are actually closed. Shocker!
