Why do some here feel the need to attack others?

As for opinions: Just because you preface with IMO or OMHO, does not mean it is correct, astute, significant, or even profound. It is, your opinion based upon your learnt knowledge. (BTW, a friend once said she had read this statement somewhere. Hence, it has been paraphrased by me).[/quote

This is an open internet forum. Very little posted here is astute, significant, or even profound. Almost everything posted here is opinion based on "learnt" knowledge. PAs for answering the question asked, I don't think the OP deserves or even wants an answer..

When my friend mentioned this statement to me (I wish I could remember the author!!), I felt it was a significant statement.
At the risk of injecting Godwin's Law, I feel the statement has particular relevance when statements such as "IMO, the Holocaust did not happen" or other such truly foolish and ignorant opinions that are made. When statements such as that are prefaced with the disclaimer, "IMHO" or "IMO", the learnt knowledge of the person is painfully obvious. IOW, just because one uses the disclaimer does not make the statement worthwhile. Could it be simple semantics? I suppose.

That was what I meant. It was not a jab at any one person.

Nonetheless, Mary's simple statement about complacency is both astute and profound.

IMO anyway!

Quick explanation: while my first paragraph was a comment on Tatjana's post, my second paragraph was fully intended as commentary on the OP's question and the OP's post.

My statement was : "As for answering the question asked, I don't think the OP deserves or even wants an answer. This thread was started with an attacking, insulting post and the only response I feel is necessary would be from the OP, who apparently is a self-appointed judge who feels free to attack and insult others while judging posts of other forum members, apparently due to defenses of Market Force. An apology might be nice. Editing an offensive post might be nice."

This comment addresses the OP and the post that started this thread. Because the OP started the thread with an attack and insults, I refuse to take the OP's question serious and provide a serious response to him or her.

I'm no angel, but occasionally I read something here that annoys me into an emotional response, causing me to lose professional cool.

Basically, there are people with directive personalities, who believe they always know how things should be, usually according to their own educations and experiences.

There are some really cool people with directive personalities, and of course there is always the flip side of the situation.

In other words, they think they know how it should be, they want it to be that way, and they will go to various lengths to try to make it happen.

Yeah yeah, I'm just jealous that your Cards usually at least have a fighting chance while my Cubbies...well, like you said, there's always next year. <sigh>

Actually, it's right around this time of the baseball season when I start saying, "Oh well. Go Steelers."

Does it make you feel better to know I refer to the Blues as the Cubs of the NHL? Almost 40 years with no Stanley Cupsad smiley Meanwhile, haven't the Black Hawks won like three of the last five years? And with a former Blues coach no less?

Typical scenarios: Someone complains about the way they were treated by the biggest MSC.
Typical response: A few self-appointed mystery shopping experts who probably earn less per year net than a typical fast food restaurant employee feel obligated to defend the biggest MSC.

Why?

Why? When someone posts "A few self-appointed mystery shopping experts who probably earn less per year than a typical fast food restaurant employee," I feel the need to attack.
When I first started posting here I found it to be a valuable resource for my shopping needs Maybe I was too sensitive or maybe I just took things the wrong way but I began to notice that some of the posters wanted to joke more than post, make fun more than give advice, and generally just not be as helpful as I found them to be at first.

I'm not putting anyone down, maybe it's just my personality. But I stopped posting as much because of all of stuff that I interpreted to just be snarky and unnecessary for the questions that I was asking. When I found myself blocking people I knew that it was time for a break. I lurk a lot,but I hesitate to post because I just don't know how to deal with the snark without being snarky myself. And since I know for a fact that schedulers read the posts and sometimes offer input I would hate for them to see me in a less than positive light.

As a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan, I feel attacked by this statement. winking smiley

More seriously though, as a new member of this forum, I have found it to be very low on the attack:content ratio. People provide helpful advice, debate and commentary. Other forums (non mystery shopping) are far worse and pretty much attack every question, making it impossible for new members to participate. While some members of this forum do tend to take a sharper or occasionally judgmental tone, it is still a very generous forum in terms of information sharing and acceptance of less informed questions.

Here's my question. What makes someone an expert and how do you know if they appointed themselves or not? Maybe we have these top secret mystery shopper conclaves twice a year and add new experts. Sorry you haven't been invited yet. But hey, like the Cubs say, there's always next year.

Everybody knows there are top secret mystery shopper conclaves that cost a lot for travel, room accommodations, and meetings.

If I were brave, maybe Coyle could help out, but how could I only lurk at conventions. Are there lurkers there?

Coming from a person who is often quite full of s.........nark, if whoever is snarky can't take the return snark, perhaps they're the ones with the problem.

Personally, most of my snark is made in jest. Sometimes people are snarky just to be buttholes. On the internet it's important to learn which is which, even though sometimes it's hard.

I went to the IMSC last year and mostly lurked. I did spend some time talking to two shoppers but most of my time was spent communicating with schedulers. Or sitting in the corner by myself, lol.

My goal of the IMSC was to network....with schedulers.

pammie,
I completely agree with your thoughts. They are my thoughts, too.

Meeting schedulers and MSC owners would matter a lot more to me than meeting other shoppers. I haven't attended any shopping conventions, but I used to attend some retail conventions and I went to meet manufacturers, not other retailers.
