WINDOWS 10

Has anyone used Windows 10 and reported shops yet? It took awhile for me to setup my computer to do reports for companies I currently work for since you can't use the same browser for each, as you already know. It was pain to jump from one browser to the next after a long day of work to enter reports. I'm hoping that I won't have to reset everything. Just wondering if I am going to encounter any problems before I jump on upgrading.

Apparently I don't already know? Why on earth would you have to switch browsers to report for different companies?

I have reported on sassie and shopmetrics since upgrading to Windows with no problems. About to do a MarketFarce report. All in IE.

And I report everything in Firefox. A few years back I needed to do Second to None in IE, but it now works for me in Firefox.
This is new to me. I've used Chrome for all my shops, expanding from Shopmetrics, Prophet, SASSIE and MSC-specific reporting systems such as Market Force, Maritz, A Closer Look, etc.

The only time I found myself jumping on a different browser would be to download a completed PDF report from A Closer Look.

There are some companies that "require" you to use a particular browser, I have never paid that any attention. That isn't what I understood from the OP though. To me it sounds like they are saying if you do a shop for Intellishop and then you have to do a shop for Bare you need to change browsers. Makes no sense at all.

Interestingly enough for Market Force current shops don't show up when you click on "Report Current Shops" in Edge but seem to work fine in IE.

I'm using Windows 10 and I've reported three shops to Maritz today.

i havent seen any issues with windows 10 yet. but until edge is actually finished they allow you to open any page in the older internet explorer if need be. I find interesting is firefox is moving to drop support for flash and chrome java in the Fall but siting security issues with both

Java has been a source of security issues on all platforms. It was a Sun Microsystems product and Sun was purchased by Oracle back around 2010. Oracle bought Sun in part to keep Java out of competitor hands while they developed a product. While they still make Java available because their product bombed (if I understand correctly), they apparently have not devoted the assets to it to have a stable, secure product.
Other than the CORI days, I have used Chrome exclusively for a few years now. I even used it for their reports until an issue arose and decided it was easier to just switch to IE than go through the hassle.

How long have you been on 10? Another question, what advantages does windows 20 have over windows 8? I'm on 8 and comfortable with it. Would I have to go through a slight learning curve to move up to 10? And if so, what would I gain? I need some meaty substance in order to go thru the effort of moving to 10. Thanks!

I must admit that I'm fairly confused, because I never have to switch browsers to enter reports for different companies. Even so, there are some things I run in different browsers because I choose to, and it's really not that much of a hassle. The browsers I use are pinned to my Start menu, and once opened I just use the shortcut on the taskbar to switch between them when I need to.

I've already downloaded Windows 10, but I'm waiting to install it until I get my business files backed up on the external hard drive. Which should take about five minutes, so really I'm just procrastinating on it since I don't have any reports to put off tonight.
I do shops for one company that you have to use Google Chrome instead of IE. The survey crashes repeatedly in IE and you have to start over. Very painful to have happen often. I finally complained about it to the company and THEN they told me it had to be done in chrome.
I have been triple booting Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 since it was in developer builds for months now and watched it evolve. Windows 10 is what Microsoft wanted Windows 8 to be, but Windows 8 was like a half baked pizza with the charms bar and half the settings still in desktop mode and half in the Metro interface mode.

Microsoft has a goal to get everyone running Windows 10 even if they have to give it away (They are for one year).

Pro's:

Updated interface where all but the most advanced settings are in the metro interface that is touch screen friendly including the clock, calculator, basic network settings and much more. No more charms bar, and they brought back the option to change the start screen to the start menu again and you can put metro live apps on it so it looks like the Windows phone.

Con's:

If you accept the default settings, Microsoft will collect all of your personal information and even use your computer as a P2P client to share the windows image and updates and collect way too much personal information. Microsoft will also attempt to get you to make an on-line account for them and will store your data and integrate the OneDrive cloud storage right into Explorer and store your Bitlocker encryption key on it and share your wifi ssid and password with your "friends". I have made many tweaks to not report back to the mother ship and to restore the non metro interface for many things like the clock, volume and more.

If your comfortable with Windows 7, I would advise NOT taking the upgrade. If you already put your toe in the water and are on Windows 8 or 8.1, you are already stuck with the metro installed and should go ahead and upgrade to 10 as it's much more polished than Windows 8 or 8.1.

I like windows 7 which is what I'm running, but windows 10 is a fact and will continue for the foreseeable future. I don't see the point in fighting fate. I figure I may as well get used to it. That being said, I tried to update today and it doesn't seem to be happening. I click the first "continue" and it just spins and spins.

Editing to say, the windows 8 computers are really cheap right now... if one wanted a new computer they could pick up one and get the free upgrade. My laptop is running great but if it wasn't that is what I'd do.

I have 3 computers in this house and all are running win7. 2 are home premium and one professional. I have the operating system disks. I bought them and are licensed. I will not do win8 or 10. win7 is easy and perfect for me. That is that. smiling smiley
Mainstream Support for Windows 7 ended on January 13, 2015. Anyone using Windows 7 (including me) is now in the "Extended Support" time window which ends on January 14, 2020. You can see the differences here: [support.microsoft.com]

I am upgrading one of my PCs to Windows 10 right now. It is free and the reviews are all good. While I went out of my way to avoid Windows 8 (I bought a laptop in February with Windows 7), I see no reason to avoid Windows 10.

Thanks scanman1. This is exactly the type of info I have been wanting to know. I have been having a problem with my pc downloading software. It has to do with corrupt system files. I'm coing to see if windows 10 might fix them.

As the school year approaches, Floridians can purchase computers during 'sales tax free days'. These will start on Friday 8/7/15 and run for 10 days this year. The first $750 of the cost of a computer will be tax free. If you are a Floridian [www.miamiherald.com] explains pretty well what will and won't be tax free.
How nice to have ten days. We only have three. People also have to be careful where they shop because not all of our 90 plus municipalities are participating. In those cities the customer would save the 4.4% state tax and still have to pay the difference in city taxes. Some of our cities are in the 9.5 to 10% range now.

I just upgraded to Windows 10. It was painless. So far, it feels a lot like Windows 7, but a lot faster.

Windows 10 jacked up my laptop. Immediately after updating it, my laptop promptly turns off and will not turn on if the power cord is unplugged. Cortana doesn't work. Edge is frozen. After calling Microsoft, 2 problems are solved but they are stumped by the 3rd. Oh...my printer and computer no longer talk because Canon doesn't have an updated driver. sad smiley
The only major stumbling block I've hit since upgrading to Windows 10 has been my printer drivers.

I was able to resolve the issue with my Color LaserJet by getting updated software from HP's website. My other printer is an ancient LaserJet 4 Plus and I haven't really looked into getting it set up yet. I'm hoping it will be just as painless as the Color LaserJet was, since it's the one I prefer using. Can't beat a printer with cartridges that last a decade!

ETA: Looks like it will work, but it has to be attached through the network instead of via USB. Bleh.

I'm holding onto 7 ( which I'm very happy with) and maybe I will upgrade later. I don't want to deal with printer or software problems! After 10 has been around longer it should be easier to avoid or correct any incompatibility issues.
I'm really liking Windows 10 so far, especially now that I know you can open up IE in Edge. I loved Windows 7 and never got used to 8 (in fact, hated it!). Windows 10 is like the best of both of them! There are still a few things I'm figuring out, but nothing too difficult...yet.

Edited to add: I just changed my default browser back to IE, so I don't have to keep clicking "Open with Internet Explorer". It's more compatible with my work website. I like everything else about the new Windows, though.

I took the plunge and now have 10 on my desktop. Wow. I was lost. I have 8 on my tablet and still am a bit lost on that. But I have taken time and explored 10. Works great. Love it. Changed certain settings so big brother cant spy. Oh and I put black electrical tape on my monitor camera. Call me paranoid?????
I still have Windows 8. I've done some Microsoft shops so I've been told all the ins and outs of Windows 10. The new OS looks really cool but I'm skeptical whenever there is a new Windows. I will wait it out. The Microsoft EDGE browser seems really, really fast though..
