Apps for route planning - what do you use?

I'm interested in hearing what people use to plan routes both at home and in the field. I'm looking for efficiency and mobility.

Currently, I map out locations on Google.com or the Google Maps App. Then I compile a list of the days' shops in what seems to be a good order to me. When I get on the road I will use the Google Maps App as needed to guide me to the next stop. But that is a bit cumbersome. When an accident screws up traffic or I pick up an additional shop during the day, I'm looking for an App or website to use on my smartphone to reorder the rest of my route for maximum efficiency. Assume I don't have a laptop with Microsoft Streets and Trips. (I hear that one is a great program)

Thanks,

PS: In another thread it was suggested MapQuest has such a feature that might work but I haven't tried it yet myself.

Happily shopping Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut

I highly recommend MapQuest. It'll "calculate" an efficient route for you. Obviously, don't always take MapQuest's word for it as there are some hiccups in the calculation and won't consider other factors (like wanting to do a food shop later when you'd be more hungry or to meet certain time frames).

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!
