Don't do it alone, but you don't want to flake either... Is it weekend only? You could probably reschedule since its early in the month. No other friends who would love to catch up with you over a delicious (free) fine dining lunch? I've had people flake and it truly stinks but a back up hasn't been hard to find. Good luck!!

Which msc? Some can change the requirement to single diner. Ive had that problem during weekday when every one else is at office job. Some can't be changed but some can. Worth a try. msc office may be closed but many schedulers are working this weekend. You should email anyway.
Maybe if you put what city you're in you would find a forum user to have lunch with. Then you would have a new friend and go out on each other's shops. Otherwise... Craigslist?

@MSNinja, you took that suggestions seriously? It was in jest, I assure you. However, regarding asking a forum user, I would take that risk. We would probably have a lively conversation regarding our shopping experiences over a nice lunch.

No but i guess you took my murder comment seriously. it was reference to the Craiglist Killer but he wanted sex not free food.

Keep the options open.
I would check with the scheduler. I have done 2 shops for a closer look by myself when two were required but they were desperate. After emails texts and calls I finally offered to go but said I don't have a guest.
As a scheduler, I say do NOT do the shop alone if two people are required. I WOULD go ahead and email your scheduler givng the date you can 100% complete (a date as soon as possible that you can). I would also call the company # leaving a voice mail stating the same thing you did in the email and indicate that you have emailed your scheduler as well. Give your name, the name of the location to shop, etc.

Do not do it on a day not approved for (tomorrow) as I know I have clients I schedule and have up to 5 shops at each location each month. If another shopper is already scheduled to do one on Sunday and you do yours then as well, your report will not be accepted.

I agree with all the advice to not do it alone or change dates without approval from the MSC. Hopefully since we are in the beginning of the month, there is still plenty of time to get the shop done and they will allow a reschedule.

The overall lesson to be learned is to cultivate hungry friends if you are a restaurant shopper.

No, no, no! No talking about mystery shopping on a mystery shop!

Speaking of dining alone I was doing a certain shop and had been doing them alone. One day I had a question, emailed the scheduler and the scheduler said, "You are doing these alone? They require 2 people." I told her I had emailed the other scheduler and she told me I could do them alone. She said that was wrong and it was 2 people only. I was paid for all of them that I did.....but of course, could not do another one alone smiling smiley

It goes to show you have great schedulers who realize you might have been given erroneous information and handle things professionally.
If it came down to a flake citation, I would sign up to one of the major dating web sites and post that I am looking for a no strings attached fun night out and would be a gentleman and meet at said "fine dining place". You'd probably have 100+ people reply and could pick one that seemed somewhat compatible.

You haven't been out in real world lately? There are psychos & freaks out there. I wouldn't want jeopardize my reputation w/one of those losers.
I like the idea of finding a shopper on the forum.... I had to turn down a shop this past week because it required two people - and it was an absolutely delicious sounding shop - and I suspect it may be a rare shop as well so who know when another opportunity to do it will come again. I need to find someone in the Sacramento/Elk Grove California area to buddy up with for two-people shops.

Reputation. Very existence. You never really know.
I have been doing several upscale dining shops since Dec. it is not always easy to find people who are reliable to do a shop with you. I have a friend that could not committ ahead of time because her husband has health issues. She finally did a shop with me 2 nights ago because it was close by. I usually take another friend on the shops because she could never afford to eat at these places.
I had one time that they were desperate that they were going to let me do it by myself. It was farther out than I normally would do. No one noted to go that far. Then it was pouring cats & dogs. Had to cancel at last minute. Scheduler didn't get back to me until next day if I was going to do that evening. It was right around time the shop needed done. It was raining again & too short a notice. I would never do a shop unless I know it still needs to be done- ESP when want done on certain days. I have some vision problems I am dealing with. Driving in rain at night is a challenge for me-ESP when it's 45 minutes away.
And this was a Sunday night shop. The restaurant does brunch but wouldn't let me switch. Client wanted it done at dinner. It was the only shop I had cancelled out of 8 I have done.
If there were a place on this forum we could post separated by State to do joint mystery shops *split the payment* ...I'd be thrilled and grateful.
Sure. I do one shop I'll write the report. Then they do one shop and they write the report. It's 2 people. Whatever is negotiated. Don't see a need for hard and fast rules. If someone just wants me to pick them up and get a free meal, and I write the report that works as well.
I mean..there's a shop I can do which pays $120. It's a fine dining one. $120 regardless, no reimbursement, flat out $120 and probably a total bill at $70-80. Not a very hard report. I'd be more than happy to drive and let someone get a $35-40 meal and I write the report and get my free meal + $40-50. Vice Versa unless the other person is an imbecilie I wouldn't mind a free meal at a great restaurant...
Can I come with you lol

Your wife spots you in the restaurant with another woman ? grinning smiley
And creates a scene in which the client recognizes you, so you end up with broken marriage and no reimbursement? grinning smiley

This is exactly why I have two shopper forum friends I've made contact with near my town. We all fill in for each other if our "dates" can't go! It's fun to catch up on what their assignments have been.
