Google Photos question

Every day I take photos on my phone, have them auto-uploaded to Google photos, then when I get home I select the ones I need and download them to my desktop. You used to, until yesterday, click in the top left corner of a photo and a blue circle with a checkmark would appear, then you could download multiple photos at once, or the whole day at once. Now it seems that you can only download one at a time, which is very time-consuming.
Does anyone know a fix for this? It's so slow now.

try holding down the control key while selecting?
It wouldn't hurt to do a Google search for the topic and see if anyone has come up with a solution to the problem,

are they saved on another cloud: verizon; windows 10, etc. mine are always saved automatically to several clouds. are they on your phone and can you download them one-by-one to your email and then download them individually and then access them also individually. a pain in the butt however it can be done? i have done this in a bind.
No, just to Google. I'm sure I'll find another method but this was so convenient. Maybe it is just a temporary bug.
Dropbox is an even better alternative. After you install Dropbox to your phone and computer, things will automatically sync which means you don't need to deal with the middle step at all.
If your cheap and don't even have a data plan on your shopping smart phone, you can just plug it in and drag and drop over USB.

If you have a ton of photo's, you will burn through your data with Dropbox type services.

If using Android, the fastest no data way to move the photos is with the Wifi at home with an old transfer method called FTP.

If you have Android, install ES File Manager. This tool does more things than a Swiss Army Knife and does them all well.

ES File Explorer is a featured local/LAN/FTP/Bluetooth/Cloud Storage file & security & application & task & bookmark manager.

Some of the features include:

Local, LAN, FTP, Bluetooth and Cloud Storage file operations
Multi-operate on files/apps and powerful clipboard
Change Views and Sort
Search files on SD card, shares and Bluetooth
Share files with friends
Text viewers and editors
Play audio or video files locally/remotely or to friends
View files or open other files with the third party programs
Set pictures as wallpaper or contact icon
Show/hide files
Zip/unzip the zip files
Check files with MD5/SHA
Set folder as home in local
Set folder as server in Remote
Analyse use of space on SD card
App backup & (un)install & make shortcut
Root explorer

OMG, this is all so far over my head -- you guys are amazing. Hotmail just morphed, and I lost the ability to
download (attach) photos to e-mails. Last week, all I had to do was click "attachments", select "in-line" or whatever, click on the photo and presto-changer, there it was. No more. I'm lost.

Dropbox can be set to not use cellular data... you do it in the settings menu for the app. That way it has to wait until you're on wifi to zap the photos over but it doesn't use up your data.

although everything is backed up to multiple clouds (verizon; google & windows 10) i still added Dropbox & that works great. too & it's easy to use
I sent in a question to Google Photos. I wonder if they will get back to me. It still is only letting you choose one photo at a time to download.
This is why I love my Windows Phone. I take a photo. 30 Seconds later it is on my laptop and desktop.

I just checked, and the method you describe (clicking in the circle to add a blue checkmark to select and download multiple images) still works for me.

Could it be some setting on your computer has changed? Maybe try a different computer or browser? (I tested it with Internet Explorer and Firefox, both on Windows)
Thank you!

I went back and checked and it still did not work for me. I ran CCleaner, still did not work. I see that Microsoft installed a bunch of stuff to my computer on Nov. 20. I deleted all that. I turned off all my browser extensions. Still did not work. I thought it is because my computer is getting old, which it is. Then I went back and tried again. Still did not work. But then I tried clicking on the plus sign at the top to "create an album". When I do that it worked!

I suspect that it is either because my computer is getting old, or they changed it so you now have to "create an album". Did you have to do that? The previous method, of clicking in the top left, was unintuitive. If you did not know that feature was there, you would not be able to guess. I only learned how to do that be searching for it.

So it is only one more click, on the plus sign to create an album. What a relief. This system works so well for me that I didn't want to find a new one.
I use Dropbox (I got it because I took a class and this is how the professor shared files, intead of printing material out) and OneDrive as a backup (I got this when I got a new laptop over a year ago). Any photo taken with my phone is automatically uploaded to Dropbox the next time the phone is connected to wifi. From the Dropbox folder on my desktop, I can copy over as many photos as I like to a folder on the comouter.

I do recommend using ES File Explorer if you have an Android phone or tablet, though. It is a very useful app.

yep...dropbox and onedrive are the ways to go. Also, for verizon customers...their free cloud-based storage.
@mistry - I'm not sure what could be going on there, it sounds quite frustrating. Maybe the process changed ever so slightly, and the region in the upper left corner of the photo that you click-on got smaller? Anyway, in case it's helpful to you (or someone else reading this), here's a bit more detail about how it works for me:

1. I can get this to work just by visiting [photos.google.com]. No need to create an album, at least here on my end.

2. When I hover the pointer over any photo, a circular, gray check mark appears in the upper-left corner. You can see the it in the first photo on the second row in this screen shot (unfortunately, the pointer isn't captured when I take them, but at this point, it's anywhere over the photo):

3. As I move the cursor closer to the check mark, it changes (subtly) from gray to white. Once it's white, I know I've reached the click-to-select region, and I click the mouse button. See the same photo in this screen shot. Now my pointer is right over the check mark:

4. After clicking, the check mark changes from white to blue (and a banner appears at the top) to let me know that the image has been selected:

Good luck!
Thanks. I tried it again. I increased the size of the page to 200%. Still didn't work. Then I tried it in Internet Explorer. Still does not work. I suspect it is the age of my netbook. Creating an album is a very small deal, just one extra click. I can do that until my next computer.

Android does the same thing.

Two fast and simple methods to transfer photo is with the USB cable or with a Micro SD Card reader, some laptop and tablets have built in card reader.

I think I just read that with the newest version of Chrome, you don't need Java. That makes Chrome a big plus for me.

As of today, it works again! I suspect it was some bug at their end, nothing has changed at this end. I'm so glad, it's very handy.
