MSC Lotteries. "If you take this crap job, you will be added to a lottery to win...." eye rolling smiley

I place this right up there with "Hero Citations" in value. I am not claiming that the MSC does not draw a name out of a hat and reward a random instead of a favorite and/or friend.

The implication is that a large MSC may offer up a small trinket or gift card is just as insulting to my company as a hero citation is. They are nationwide and offering a lottery for a $50 value item and not giving the actual odds of winning. This is preying on the gamblers amongst us.

Personally, I say show me the money. I will do this job for x amount of cash. Period. Everything else is window dressing.

There are people with gambling addiction, and I assume they are preying on those shoppers to get them to do shops with the high hopes and low probability of winning as all lotteries work in this fashion.

I'd like to hear from MSC lottery winners. Let's be honest here. Did the scheduler tell you you'd win if you picked up that shop in Timbuktu? Did you do one shop in this rotation for the MSC and win the jackpot reward as a new shopper?

I'm not asking you to name MSC's or prizes unless you feel comfortable to do so.

I'm just looking for a general consensus and hear how this plays out in reality.

It has been several years ago, but about this time of the year Maritz was trying to finish up their bank shops so they offer a chance for a $50.00 gift card to anyone who took 5 or more. I took five. Right after the first of the year they published the list of the 5 winners and I was on the list. I received a $50.00 gift card in the mail. (Without the incentive of the gift card, I probably would have only taken 3 of the shops, but with the incentive I took the 2 extra)

I agree that these are about as worthless as hero citations. Right now I see one msc offering a chance to win an Apple watch, and another offering you a chance to win $50 if you complete 5 or more shops.
I am not interested in trying to win whatever it is. I'm interested in my bottom line. If the shops are shops I would do anyway I"ll do them. If I wouldn't anyway, then it won't change a thing.
I'd chose a $10 bonus over an opportunity to win $50 all day long. I find those as insulting as the $5 bonus on the custom pizza that had no fee to start with. Quit texting me already!

Then again, I'll take even money on a blackjack when the dealer's up card is an ace. I don't care what the book says to do on that one. I don't even wait for insurance to be offered. Even money, right here. $25, thank you.

By the way, I have won some HUGE prizes in my lifetime, including a Ford Expedition, the E! Wild-On Grand Prize worth $2500 and a pile of misc stuff worth a few thousand bucks in total.

This is sooo cool!

I won a $50 Amazon gift card from an MSC for filling out their survey. But NEVER for doing a shop.

Doing what I can to enhance the life of my family! I LOVE what I do smiling smiley
Let's say 1,000 shoppers were competing for the $50 gift card. You would have $0.05 equity in it, as those are your odds of actually winning it. A nickel should not be much incentive, but sadly that might seem like a substantial pay boost.
Instead of high odds for a prize, I'll take an easy higher paying shop....when I first got into doing shops, one company would dangle a big box shop where you would spend x-amount so that would trigger the cashier to ask if you wanted to get their charge card....and get reimbursed for the shop.....if you took so many electronic big box shops...I did the incentive shop a couple of times and it sure helped with the grocery/household items list....

Silver certified (since 2009) and willing to do shops all around the greater Chicago, NW Indiana, and Southern Wisconsin areas (including airports!.
I have to admit- the Apple Watch made me give the job a second glance, but that's as far as I ever got with a raffle offer.

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
I did win once. An extra $25.00 went into my paypal account, and my name got listed as a winner on the company's website. All I had to do was submit the report before the fifteenth of the month, and if the MSC did not have to contact me about anything I was entered in the lottery. It was an easy thing for me to do because I had been planning to submit the report before the fifteenth anyway.

I used to work at an advertising company that sponsored lotteries. There are soooo many rules and regulations for hosting these things. We alway double, triple blind checked who and how we were going to award the prizes. I wasn't on the legal end, but there was so much legal involvement that I think there would be big trouble if it was found to be rigged.
If it is a shop that you would not do without the gift card option, don't do it. If it is a shop that you would do without the card option, then do it. If the requirements also include doing it correctly the first time, well that is what you should be striving for anyway and if you happen to win a gift card in the process, good for you!
I NEVER consider these "extras" when taking a shop. If I don't make a profit I don't take the job even if its next door to my house. No profit not shop.
