I did a restaurant shop that required per instructions to purchase an entree, and a shareable or side item. I purchase the entree, the side item and a drink. 3 days later I get the email that I didn't follow instructions, that I should have ordered an appetizer. No where on my printed instruction form does it say that. I spent $17 out of pocket for the meal, and the shop fee, plus bonus was $25.00. I e-mailed the scheduler about the issue. She says the same thing. I have emailed her again and told her she is mistaken because my instructions were followed. I even checked the Restaurant's Web page and it states the seasoned fries are a side dish. If the instructions had said purchase an appetizer, I would have. I am not a novice. I read every thing 3 times and make notes on my phone so I don't miss important points. Any one else having similar issues with SeeLevel HX?

If the fries on are the menu they are a side.. go back to the original instructions.... does it say side or appetizer.... If it says sharable and I think I know the place the menu has been redone and fries are not sharable.... you might suggest to the scheduler to find when the menu changed. I noticed it last time.
Copy the instructions that clearly state we can order a shareable or a side and send that to the reviewer. It's right there on the general instructions anyone can see when looking at the job listing plus on the guidelines we are required to read.

I had a similar problem last week with the same shop. In my case, the reviewer took a point off but otherwise approved the shop. I always get 10/10 on these so I asked them to tell me specifically what was wrong.

I was told, like you, I did not order an appetizer, I ordered a side. I was also informed I answered one question incorrectly.

I copied the instruction that clearly states we can order a shareable or a side. I also informed them why that question was properly answered and should not have been changed.

The reviewer apologized for being the one in the wrong. She fixed the score but left the comments up.

I am assuming the reviewers are not being provided with the same instructions that we are.

Shareable is an appetizer with this restaurant. I can't recall if it says shareable or side plus entree. If you go during happy hour monday thru friday there are several cheap shareables at $4 or less. Also Tuesday is regular wing day and thursday is boneless wing day so wings are cheap on those days as well. I wish they would up the reimbursement to what it was with the former msp and knock off the shareable requirement as it make it hard to get fully reimbursed and not eat into your pay.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
The OP read the same instructions and guidelines that everyone else did. Their post is accurate, the instructions and guidelines say "shareable or side." See my post two above this one. It looks like there are new reviewers for this project and they are either incorrectly or not properly trained.

This is one of the most frustrating things, to me, about mystery shopping! Too many times the guidelines/instructions are not written correctly, or the questionnaires aren't written to align with the guidelines, and/or the schedulers and reviewers themselves can't properly interpret the guidelines or questionnaires. Then the shopper is left "in the wrong," when in reality he or she is right. In this case, either the instructions are supposed to now only say "a shareable" and nobody's changed it but they're training their reviewers that way, or the "or" is still correct but the reviewers aren't reading it correctly. In any event, nobody at the MSC seems to realize that the instructions don't match what the reviewers are looking for!

So frustrating! I hope the OP can get this straightened out. And I wish MSCs would get their acts together on this stuff.

Kind of interesting this "problem" started right after the full merger and a new name.

One mistake that many shoppers make is reading the guidelines the first time they perform a shop for a specific company and client, and then assuming they are the same for every shop thereafter. Many MSCs change the scenario every month, or have several different scenarios. You should read the guidelines/instructions for EVERY shop, as well as the survey itself, which sometimes contains more detailed instructions. From the viewpoint of a mystery shopper and editor.
I had to first figure out what they meant by "shareable" and according to my guidelines, it was an appetizer. Could it be the ninnie who wrote the recent guidelines thinks a "side" is the same as an appetizer? It is not. A side is an accessory to an entrée, like an extra salad or baked potato. An appetizer is a precursor or "appetite stimulator" aka "wet the appetite" In your case, they wrote shareable or side, they are saying, appetizer or side item. They are not the same. Unless of course, they don't care if you order an appetizer or a side of something.....smiling smiley
kyninja, this is absolutely true, and in my 12+ years of shopping that bit me once, and almost another time. However, far more often, in a shop I've never done and am reading the instructions for the first time I will find one or two major contradictions.
The guidelines they supplied you with might be outdated. I run into this quite frequently.

I have had several shops where I have asked the scheduler why my score was lowered. And I have never been given a specific answer. And most times no reply at all.
Reminds me of the time I had to argue with an editor about whether or not sangria did or did not count as a cocktail.

Cocktail - yes
Well drink - no

It depends on the purpose of the shop. For an upsell, a sangria is not a great choice. If you just need a drink at the bar, it's ok.
I have done several of theses shops with no problems..

There was one shop that I did for another company and I asked why it was lower but they never reply back either

I used to do these shops with the previous provider. Shareable is an appetizer, not a side.

On the other hand, has anyone had issues trying to schedule yourself for these shops? They turn up in my e-mail, I go and try to schedule them and they show no dates available at all. I know I am eligible for them but I just don't see dates, regardless of what store I pick. And their scheduler is terrible at replying to e-mails (I asked on 11/22 for one on 11/25, and got a reply at 4am on 11/25 asking me if I was still willing to do it. I replied at 8am and never heard back form them).

supposedly it said shareable OR side

You're absolutely correct, my bad. This is in the shop comments:
"• Shopper is required to purchase at least one entrée (burger, wings, dinner salad, etc.) and one sharable or side item. Shopper will be reimbursed up to $20 for the cost of the meal."

I agree @KingsKid85 should have been reimbursed for it.
Also it looks like now some of the dates have opened up - And now I don't have time to go there. Which doesn't take away their lack of responsiveness anyway.

False. Drinking sangria is never ok. Well, maybe to induce vomiting.

Lol!!! I've always seen sangria as a waste of good wine. If the wine is worth drinking to begin with, why bastardize it with fruit juice and sugar? I guess I've never had a good one. I definitely appreciate your fervor, though.

The whole point is not to waste good wine on it though. It originated in regions that typically have a surplus of middling wine that might not last through the summer season, especially not without modern temperature or humidity control. Dump it in a pitcher with some fruit juice and brandy.
OP, do you have an update on this? It sounds like the instructions back up what you ordered.
I saw shops for this client posted the weekend before last. Too far away and too little time with the holidays, so I did not apply for one. Since I didn't apply and get a shop, I did not see the full guidelines. But the notes section of the posting did say one entree plus shareable or side.
Sounds like somebody at the MSC doesn't know what "or" means....

I think they either need to update their instructions or update the editor. I guess I have been lucky, because I really like their nachos (a shareable), so I have never encountered that situation.
Same here. I always get the mushrooms, so have never had an issue. The instructions have always been clear to me that you could get fries or wedges instead and still be within the parameters.
