I feel your pain. It's a real bummer to spend time and money doing a shop and report and learn you will not be paid. I would not even think about doing a shop on a national holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Easter, 4th of July, etc.) without express approval from the MSC. Shopping since 2008, I've seen very few retail store clients listed with any MSC that allows a mystery shop on a national holiday, and I've run across only one or two restaurants that allow shopping on a national holiday. Actually, I can't think that I have ever seen a retail store allow MSing on a national holiday, although I might have missed it because I wouldn't consider doing it.

I do understand the reason for this. It I managed a retail store or a restaurant, I would not want to be graded on my staff's performance on a national holiday, when customer traffic is likely to be very unsteady and very high volume.

It's good that they gave you the option to re-shop the locations.
I am sorry your shops were rejected, but based on my experience and as Austinmom has stated, I would be very surprised to have a shop assigned for a major Holiday. It is not the norm.
MY gas my, my efforts, my time, filling out the reports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pay me!!!!!!!make it right, do not even hypocritically apologize, pay me!!!!!!!

sorry I needed to vent, I had to write back to them, and here's the letter just to vent!!!!!!!!! I am so pissed, they make so much profit out of us the MS companies sad smiley

You did not specify that on your guidelines. Please refer this to your manager supervisor. You did not specify that on your guidelines. Do not be unfair, and unjust. I want to get paid for my work. Do not take food and money from me and my handicap child. DO NOT BE UNJUST, YOU SHOULD HAVE CLARIFIEDTHIS ON YOUR GUIDELINES OR NOTICE. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my time, my money, my efforts need to be paid!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not liable or at fault in this matter, you did not post it.

I can feel your frustration and disappointment. Your original post quoted the MSC as advising you the store could not be shopped on Thanksgiving. Sounds like that email got past you and you were relying on the guidelines. Around the holidays you'll find the MSCs will send out emails with holiday specific information. Usually they will not change the guidelines to cover these holiday exceptions. It's good to be really cautious around any holiday as many clients will black out those dates.

I have only been shopping a year. I did not know this, "No holiday policy." They are paying eventually, after my groaning. IDK, if that was right that I did that, some form of manipulation.... I just blew up, sorry.

You can't make everyone happy, you're not pizza!!!
I'm sorry you weren't able to be paid, but I understand the msc's logic. Shopping on a holiday is usually different than shopping on a regular day, especially Thanksgiving with the Black Friday hype. I would never consider doing assignments on Thanksgiving. I understand your frustration, but sending an email to the msc full of all caps and exclamation points isn't very professional. Hopefully you can re-shop.

ETA: Just saw that you're getting paid. That's nice of them. Don't write this msc off just yet. I've been shopping with them for years and they're great.

If you're that frustrated, you need to take a minute and cool off before sending any emails. If a shopper made a mistake on an assignment and then sent me a letter like that, it would be their last time working with me. This MSC is being very gracious by overlooking a hysterical outburst like that.

I know I feel bad. I should have cooled off, so I want to kick myself in the rear, for putting my foot in my mouth. Lord forgive me.

Well, we're human. I once screwed up a shop for this same MSC and they paid me anyway. They're pretty classy, although they are certainly very particular about what they want.

yes, they are professional and classy. As for being human, I cannot retract what came out of my fingers..typing. Yes, this company has a very good reputation and consistent payers. Yes, they also worked with me many times despite of unrefined reports. Yes, I wished I did not throw them under the bus so soon. I will remember this for sure.

You learned from this experience. Gather yourself up and carry on. Tomorrow is another day.

If I ran a MSC, i would find this letter to be very unprofessional. I would review the guidelines you were given and if they did not in fact exclude holidays, I would pay, but I would consider terminating your services based on the tone of the letter.

An appropriate letter would simply state the facts, not demands or sob stories...something like

"In fact, the guidelines did not list exclude holidays and I did not receive any other notification. As I did follow the guidelines, I feel I should be paid. Thank you for your consideration of this matter."

Did you review any old mail, spam, deleted mail?

I agree with jmitw 100%. If I was the MSC owner, I would have deactivated your ass so fast. Screaming in all caps with multiple exclamation points and taking food out of a handicap child's mouth is beyond melodramatic.

Next time you want to vent, write it in Word or send the email to yourself instead of posting on a public forum and emailing the MSC. It serves the same purpose...releasing some steam.

It may sound melodramatic to you, however, it is the truth I use my MS funds for my child's special food and therapies. With that said, thank you for your response. I had noticed many shoppers did the same, as some of their listing went back for reassigns. I do not know if they had also files a complaint like me, and gotten paid eventually. I have done many shops for them and they have rejected some before, and I take it as a grain of salt. However, since, they did not send out notices, I needed to write for my right. Yes, it was quite distasteful, and I feel some type of conscience guilt. However, I am glad that I am compensated for my time and work. I will be careful what I post in a public forum as it is offensive to other shoppers, etc. Happy Holidays to all, three weeks until Christmas.

ishop, congratulations on a cordial and measured response. I appreciate your effort and self control. Here's wishing you and yours a great holiday season.

Since the MSC's come here to read the forum, and seeing how you provided enough detail for them to figure out who you are, hopefully they will give you work in the future and it didn't create any unmendable fences.

Sometimes it makes me feel better to send a nasty email to vent. What I do is simply send it to myself, then I let it sit in my inbox. Once I have cooled down, I reread it and edit it to be politically correct, get rid of typos, etc., then send it for real.

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.
This is one of those "little things" that more experienced shoppers just know, as most companies will not schedule shops on any holiday. Chalk it up to experience and read those guidelines with a magnifying glass!

Kona Kathie
What can really trip you up is when you read the guidelines and do not read the shop notes. THE SHOP NOTES SUPERSEDE THE SHOP GUIDELINES. 99% of the time they will be blank or just contain location or non-critical information. The one time you don't read them, they will want you to do something completely different than the standard shop for one location.
I would also (like others have suggested) have deactivated your ass immediately. Your lack of professionalism and also your trying to play the "disadvantaged parent due to your child's medical condition card" to be unsavory and extremely off-putting.
I am sorry, but I have only been shopping since October of this year. Yes I jumped in hard with both feet and haven't stopped yet, but I was fully aware that holidays were no shopping days. I received enough emails from multiple companies that made it clear.
But this is just me....

shopping in Placer, Yuba, Nevada and Sacramento Counties in Northern California.
